For a normal screenshot, use your computer or phone’s built-in screen-capture control. To save an entire webpage that extends below the viewport on a desktop, open Chrome DevTools, switch to Device Mode, then choose More options > Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome for Android has a separate Share > Long screenshot workflow.

Take a full-page screenshot on desktop Chrome
This method captures content below the visible viewport, including a page that requires scrolling.
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Open DevTools with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux, or Command+Option+I on Mac. You can also open Chrome’s menu and choose the DevTools option.
- Turn on Device Mode by selecting the phone/tablet icon in the DevTools toolbar, or use its device-mode command.
- Open the Device Mode More options menu.
- Select Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome downloads an image containing the page beyond the viewport.
Very tall pages, animated content, lazy-loaded images and fixed headers can produce unusual results. Let important images load before capturing, and check the downloaded file at several points rather than assuming the first screen represents the whole page.

Capture only part of a webpage
- Open DevTools.
- Open the Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+P on Mac.
- Type screenshot.
- Choose Capture area screenshot.
- Drag over the region you want to save.
Area capture does not work when DevTools is undocked. Re-dock DevTools to the side or bottom of the browser and run the command again.

Take a regular screenshot of the visible screen
A device-level screenshot is usually faster than opening DevTools. It records what is visible at that moment, including browser chrome, other windows and any overlays. Use your operating system’s current screenshot command or capture utility; shortcut combinations and save locations differ between Windows and macOS and are not universal across versions.
Screenshot on a Chromebook
- Press the dedicated Screenshot key if your Chromebook keyboard has one.
- If it does not, press Shift+Ctrl+Show windows, or open the system Screen Capture control.
- Choose full-screen, partial-region or window capture.
- Use the Screen Capture settings to select a save folder if the default is not suitable.
Chromebook captures are automatically copied to the clipboard, so you can paste one directly into an editor, message or document. ChromeOS administrators can apply policies that restrict screenshots, including exceptions for particular websites.
Screenshot in Chrome on Android
Capture the visible screen
On most Android phones, press Power + Volume Down together. Some manufacturers provide a screenshot button in the power menu instead. If the combination does not work, follow the instructions for your phone’s manufacturer.
Capture a scrolling screen
On Android 12 and later, many scrollable screens show Capture more after the initial screenshot. Drag the handles to include additional content and save the result. Support depends on the device and the app being captured.

Use Chrome’s Long screenshot command
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu).
- Tap Share…, then Long screenshot.
- Adjust the crop handles.
- Confirm to save or share the image.
What about Chrome on iPhone or iPad?
The exact controls are supplied by iOS or iPadOS rather than Chrome itself, and labels differ by system release. Use the current Apple screenshot and full-page capture instructions for your device. Chrome’s desktop DevTools procedure does not provide the same full-page workflow inside the iPhone or iPad app.
Incognito, managed browsers and blocked captures
Incognito on Android
Chrome prevents screenshots in Incognito mode on Android. Open the same URL in a regular tab when you need an image.
Organization-managed devices
Chrome Enterprise policies can control screenshot capture on managed ChromeOS devices and browsers. A company or school administrator may block capture globally or apply website-specific exceptions. If every method fails only on a managed profile, ask the administrator rather than repeatedly changing DevTools settings.

Video DRM, cross-origin frames, permission dialogs and transient popups may not appear as expected. Capture after dismissing overlays, and use a regular screenshot when you need the browser UI or a dialog rather than only page content.

Troubleshooting checklist
“Capture area screenshot” is missing or does nothing
- Confirm that DevTools is open and docked; area capture is disabled when it is undocked.
- Open the Command Menu again and search for “screenshot” rather than relying on an old toolbar location.
- Reload the page if DevTools opened before the document finished loading.
The full-page image is cut off
- Make sure Device Mode is enabled before selecting Capture a full size screenshot.
- Wait for lazy-loaded images and expanding sections to finish loading.
- Try again after closing sticky banners, chat panels or consent dialogs that alter the page layout.
Android says screenshots are not allowed
You are probably in an Incognito tab. Open the page in a normal tab. On a managed phone, a device policy may also prevent capture.
The Android long screenshot option is absent
Use the phone’s ordinary screenshot first and look for Capture more. Not every device or app supports scrolling capture, and menu names vary by manufacturer.
Chromebook capture is blocked
Check whether the device is managed by a school or employer. ChromeOS policy can disable screenshots or restrict them to approved sites.

The downloaded file is unexpectedly huge
Full-page images can be very tall. Crop the result, capture a selected area, or export a PDF when a document-style result is more useful than one continuous bitmap.

- Use a full-page capture only when you need content below the fold; a viewport or element capture is faster and smaller.
- Wait for a meaningful selector or network idle instead of adding an arbitrary long delay.
- Set a fixed viewport, device scale and timezone when comparing screenshots over time.

What is the difference between a screenshot and a full-page screenshot?
A normal screenshot records the visible screen or viewport. A full-page capture renders content that continues below the viewport.
Why can I screenshot a normal tab but not Incognito?
Chrome blocks screenshots in Android Incognito. Open the page in a regular tab.
