On an iPhone 16, take a long screenshot by pressing and quickly releasing the Side button and Volume Up button together. Tap the thumbnail, choose Full Page, review or crop the capture, then save it to Photos as an image or to Files as a PDF. Apple documents this workflow specifically for full webpages in Safari; the Full Page option is not guaranteed to appear for every app or type of content.
How to take a scrolling screenshot on iPhone 16
- Open the webpage or supported document you want to capture. For the most reliable full-page workflow, open the page in Safari.
- Press and quickly release the Side button and Volume Up button at the same time. Do not hold the buttons; holding them can open the power-off or Emergency SOS controls instead of taking a screenshot.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail that appears briefly in the lower-left corner.
- In the screenshot editor, tap Full Page at the top. The preview changes from the visible screen to the entire supported page.
- Drag the preview on the right to inspect different parts of the long capture.
- If necessary, tap Crop, then drag the handles to remove unwanted margins or content.
- Choose where to save it: Save to Photos creates an image, while Save PDF to Files creates a PDF and asks you to choose a Files location.
Apple describes this as capturing content “beyond the edge of the screen.” The exact buttons can vary slightly with the current iOS interface, but the Side-plus-Volume-Up shortcut and the Full Page control are the essential steps.
What the Full Page option captures
Safari webpages
Safari is Apple’s documented example. When Full Page is available, iPhone captures the webpage beyond the portion currently visible, rather than requiring you to repeat the shortcut while scrolling. This is useful for articles, receipts, policies, documentation and other pages that extend below one screen.
Other supported content
Full Page is a context-sensitive control. Some apps expose it for documents or other scrollable content, while others provide only the standard screen image. Apple does not promise scrolling capture for every app. If the editor has no Full Page tab, the content is not exposing that option in the current context.

Save the result as an image or PDF

Choose the image option when the recipient expects a picture. Choose PDF when the capture is functioning as a document and the recipient needs a file that can be opened, printed or organized in a folder.
Where to find a long screenshot afterward
Image saved to Photos
Open Photos > Collections > Media Types > Screenshots. Apple groups screenshots saved to the photo library in this location. You can then share, edit or move the image like any other photo.
PDF saved to Files
Open Files and browse to the location selected in the save sheet, such as On My iPhone or iCloud Drive. If you cannot remember the folder, use the Files search field and search for the filename or browse Recents.

How to crop, inspect and share a full-page capture
Inspect before saving
The narrow preview strip on the right represents the full capture. Drag it slowly to check that the page starts and ends where you expect. This is especially important for pages with expandable sections, advertisements or content that loads as you scroll.

Crop unnecessary material
Tap Crop in the editor and move the handles. Cropping before saving is preferable to sending a capture that includes browser controls, blank margins or unrelated material. If you save the original first, you can also crop the saved image later in Photos.
Share the correct format
Use the Share button after saving to send the image from Photos or the PDF from Files. If a messaging app compresses an image or displays a very tall image awkwardly, share the PDF instead when the recipient needs the complete page in a document format.
What to do when Full Page is missing
- Confirm you opened the thumbnail. The Full Page control appears in the screenshot editor, not on the initial screen after the shutter animation.
- Try Safari for a webpage. Apple’s documented full-page example is a webpage in Safari. An in-app browser or embedded web view may not expose the same control.
- Check the current content. Some apps support only a normal screenshot. Look for the app’s own Export, Print or Share command.
- Capture in sections. Take several ordinary screenshots and share them as a set when a single long capture is unavailable.
- Use the app’s document export. For a receipt, note or document, the app may produce a cleaner PDF than a screen capture.
There is no setting that forces Full Page to appear for unsupported content. Its availability depends on what the current app or webpage provides to the screenshot editor.
Common problems and fixes
The buttons do not take a screenshot
Press and release Side and Volume Up simultaneously rather than holding them. If the phone is in a case that obstructs a button, remove the case temporarily. You can also try again with the phone unlocked and the target page visible.

The power-off or Emergency SOS screen appears
You held the buttons too long or pressed them out of sequence. Cancel that screen, return to the page, and use one quick simultaneous press and release.
The thumbnail disappears before you tap it
Take the screenshot again and tap the thumbnail immediately. If it is gone, the image may still be in Photos under Collections > Media Types > Screenshots, but you will not be able to switch that already-saved capture to Full Page; repeat the capture to open the editor.
The page is incomplete or looks blank farther down
Some pages load images or sections only after scrolling, require a login, or use an app-specific viewer. Wait for the page to finish loading, reload it in Safari, or use the site’s own export. A screenshot cannot include content that the page never rendered.

That is expected. Choose Save PDF to Files and look in the folder selected in the Files save dialog. Photos contains the image version only when you choose Save to Photos.

Practical limits and privacy considerations
A long capture can include everything rendered on the supported page, including account names, order numbers, addresses, private messages and advertising. Review the preview and crop or redact sensitive material before sharing. For confidential pages, prefer a local save location and check the recipient before sending a cloud-backed Files document.
Long images can be difficult to read when viewed as a thumbnail. A PDF is usually the more practical handoff for a multi-screen document, while an image is convenient for a quick visual reference. If the page contains interactive controls, links or animations, the screenshot preserves only the rendered appearance at capture time, not the underlying interactions.

When to use each method
- Use the iPhone workflow for a one-off page you are viewing on the phone and need to save immediately.
- Choose Save to Photos when the output is primarily an image.
- Choose Save PDF to Files when the output is a document for filing, printing or formal sharing.
