To run a creek and forest ambience video continuously on YouTube, send it through an encoder such as OBS using a verified channel, a YouTube stream key, and a stable internet connection. Test the picture and sound in YouTube’s Live Control Room before going live. For a prerecorded loop, make the footage and audio your own or confirm that the rights cover livestreaming and archived playback.
Before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible to stream: YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A source: Choose a live camera and microphone, an original prerecorded ambience video, or a combination. A prerecorded file can provide a consistent scene, but you still need an encoder or cloud service to send it to YouTube.
- Rights to everything viewers hear and see: Use your own recordings or verify that licenses permit livestreaming and archived playback. YouTube places responsibility for the required rights on the person providing the stream; see its livestream terms and conditions.
- A suitable connection and a way to monitor the stream: For a local encoder, the computer and network connection must remain available while it is broadcasting.
Set up a 24/7 stream with YouTube Studio and OBS
YouTube supports several ways to go live, including an encoder. An encoder is a flexible choice for an ambience broadcast because it can combine video and audio sources. OBS’s official knowledge base covers setup, streaming, sources, filters, and audio. The steps below explain the YouTube connection; exact OBS controls can vary with its version and setup.
- Prepare and check the source. In OBS, add the video and audio sources you intend to broadcast. Play the scene and listen for clean, continuous sound. For prerecorded footage, confirm that the intended scene and audio continue as expected before committing to a long stream.
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule the broadcast. Go to Live Control Room and create a stream, or schedule one if you want a defined start time. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe the setup.
- Copy the server URL and stream key into OBS. Find the stream settings in YouTube Studio, then enter the provided server URL and stream key in OBS’s streaming settings. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as a credential: do not post or share it, and reset it in Studio if it is exposed. Details are in Manage live stream settings.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then check the Live Control Room preview before starting the public broadcast. Verify that the expected picture appears and the creek or forest audio is audible and free of unwanted noise.
- Start the broadcast and keep watch. Once the preview is right, start the stream in Live Control Room if required by the setup. Check both audio and video after going live, and revisit them periodically during the broadcast.
Choose output settings and test upload capacity
There is no single resolution or bitrate that suits every source, connection, and encoder configuration. Use the current YouTube encoder guidance for your chosen output rather than treating one setting as universal. YouTube recommends keeping the total streaming bitrate within available upload capacity, with 20% headroom. Upload speed—not download speed—is the relevant measure, and YouTube notes that download bandwidth may be higher than upload bandwidth. Its live-streaming tips also recommend testing ahead of time, previewing the feed, and monitoring sound and picture.

- Check that the stream preview stays stable and that audio does not drop, distort, or drift out of sync.
- Use a wired network connection if it helps make your connection more reliable; YouTube does not endorse a particular router, cable, or internet provider.
- Keep an eye on the encoder and the watch page after launch. A good preview before going live does not remove the need to monitor a continuous stream.
Plan for 24-hour continuity and replays
A continuous feed and a continuous archive are different goals. YouTube says encoder streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. If you want replays of a broadcast that runs around the clock, plan scheduled stream breaks and check the current archive behavior in Studio before relying on a particular outcome. YouTube’s guidance does not establish that every stream longer than 12 hours will produce the archive you expect. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Before each start or restart, check the Live Control Room preview and make sure the public watch page works on the devices you care about. YouTube recommends checking accessibility and monitoring the stream in its live-streaming tips.
Originality, copyright, and monetization
Permission to stream a video is not the same as a guarantee of monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams. As of its July 15, 2025 policy update, YouTube calls its relevant policy “inauthentic content” and says repetitive or mass-produced videos can be ineligible for monetization. A short ambience clip repeated for hours is not guaranteed approval. Original footage and sound, purposeful variation, and a distinct channel presentation may help demonstrate original work, but no format or editing approach guarantees a monetization decision. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and make sure any licensed music is cleared for both live use and replay.

Choose where the encoder runs
Run OBS on your own computer
This approach gives you direct control of the sources and encoder, but the computer, encoder, and connection must stay available for the stream to continue. YouTube says expensive equipment is not required; its streaming tips recommend choosing gear that fits your setup and testing the connection. A dedicated computer or mini PC is an optional convenience, not a YouTube requirement; YouTube’s cited guidance does not specify minimum processor, memory, or graphics requirements.

The preview does not appear
Check that OBS is sending to the server URL and stream key currently shown for the intended YouTube broadcast. Confirm that the encoder is running, then inspect Live Control Room again. If the key may have been exposed or copied incorrectly, reset or recopy it in Studio.

The stream disconnects or becomes unstable
Check upload capacity against the total streaming bitrate and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Test the connection and encoder settings again; do not use download speed as a substitute for upload capacity. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend advance testing and ongoing monitoring.
There is no sound, or the audio is wrong
Confirm that the intended audio source is active in OBS and audible in the preview. Check the live watch page after launch, too. If the source is a prerecorded file, make sure it contains the expected sound throughout the section being played.

The live broadcast has no replay you expected
Check the stream duration and current archive behavior in YouTube Studio. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; for a longer continuous broadcast, plan breaks rather than assuming the full stream will be archived as one replay.
