To stop new website prompts on desktop Firefox, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions. Click Settings beside Location, check Block new requests asking to access your location, and save. Repeat beside Camera with Block new requests asking to access your camera. These switches block new requests; they do not necessarily remove permissions you already saved for individual sites.
Block new location requests in Firefox
- Open Firefox Settings. In some contexts, this may be called Preferences.
- Select Privacy & Security. If you cannot find the control, use Settings search for “location.”
- Scroll to Permissions and click Settings beside Location.
- Check Block new requests asking to access your location.
- Click Save Changes.
This blocks websites from making new location permission requests. The Location Permissions dialog also lists sites with saved Allow or Block choices. Review those entries separately if you want to change permissions you previously granted or denied.
Block new camera requests in Firefox
- In Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions, click Settings beside Camera.
- Check Block new requests asking to access your camera.
- Click Save Changes.
To change an existing site-specific camera choice, use the saved site list in the Camera Permissions dialog: change that site’s selector to Allow or Block, or remove its entry. Blocking camera requests can make features that require a camera unavailable on those websites. Firefox has a similar control for microphone requests, if you also want to block those.

Change or reset permission for one website
If you do not want to block requests from every site, change the permission for just the site in question. When a permission has been changed from its default, Firefox may show a Permissions icon in the address bar. Click it, then click the X beside the permission status to clear the changed status and restore that permission type’s default. The icon does not appear for a site whose permission has not been changed from the default.

You can also manage domain-specific permissions through Page Info. Open the site information and Page Info, or use Ctrl+I on Windows or Linux and Command+I on macOS. Mozilla’s current Page Info reference lists Allow, Block, and Always Ask for camera and microphone. Some permission changes are managed in Settings instead.
Understand the difference between Firefox and device permissions
A website permission controls whether a site can ask Firefox to use a feature. Your operating system separately controls whether the Firefox app itself may use device hardware. Mozilla’s camera and microphone guidance directs Android users to the device’s Apps settings and iOS users to the device’s Privacy settings to manage Firefox’s app-level camera or microphone access. Changing that device setting is not the same as blocking a website’s permission prompts.

The documented global Location and Camera steps above are for desktop Firefox; do not assume the same menu path applies on mobile. For the layout available in your version, use Firefox Settings search for “location” or “camera.”

Mozilla says Firefox does not share your location without your approval. According to its explanation, after approval Firefox sends your computer’s IP address, information about nearby wireless access points, and a random Google-assigned client identifier that expires every two weeks to Google Location Services over an encrypted connection to estimate your location. Firefox then passes location information to the requesting website after you approve. This describes the location-sharing process when you approve a request, not every visit to a website.
