Turn off the unwanted alarm on each phone that is ringing. On an iPhone, open Clock > Alarms and switch off the alarm; swipe left and tap the trash button only when it should be removed. On Android, open Clock > Alarm and use the alarm’s switch or delete command. Keep the alarm enabled on the one person’s device who needs to wake up.
Ordinary alarms in the iPhone Clock app are not documented as a Family Sharing feature. A shared family group or calendar therefore should not be your first suspect. Check the local alarms, sleep schedules and accounts on every affected phone before changing family settings.
Fix the ringing phones first
Work through every phone that sounds, not just the phone belonging to the person who needs the alarm. An alarm that is enabled on two devices will continue to ring on both until it is changed on each device. The fastest safe approach is to identify the owner of the wake-up alarm, leave that person’s alarm on, and switch off only the unwanted entries elsewhere.
Before changing anything, note the exact time, the days on which it repeats, whether the phone vibrates, and which devices ring. That quick inventory prevents a household member from deleting the only alarm that someone still needs.

iPhone: switch off or delete the unwanted alarm
- Open the Clock app.
- Tap Alarms.
- Find the alarm that is waking people and tap its switch to turn it off. An off alarm remains available for later use.
- To remove an alarm permanently, swipe left on it and tap the trash button.
- Open the alarm’s edit screen and check its repeat days, label and sound so you can identify who owns it and when it is supposed to run.
Apple documents these controls in its iPhone Clock alarm guide. If several people use one iPhone, do not delete an alarm until its owner confirms that it is no longer needed; switching it off is the safer first action. An alarm can be disabled for a holiday or schedule change and re-enabled later without recreating its settings.
Pay particular attention to repeating alarms. A one-time alarm may explain a single morning’s disturbance, while a Monday-to-Friday alarm can keep returning even after everyone forgets who created it. Check each enabled row, not just the next alarm shown on the lock screen.
Android: use the alarm switch or editor
- Open the Clock app and select Alarm.
- Toggle off the alarm that should no longer ring.
- To remove it, open the alarm editor and choose the delete option.
- Review repeat days, vibration and sound before saving any change.
Google’s Android instructions cover adding, editing, cancelling, deleting, repeating and snoozing alarms in the Clock app. The exact button appearance can vary by phone maker, but the alarm list and its on/off control are the place to start: Google’s Android alarm help.
If more than one person uses an Android phone, give every alarm a clear label and confirm the repeat pattern after editing. A deleted alarm cannot be restored with one tap, so turn it off first when you are unsure.
Does Family Sharing copy alarms to everyone?
Apple describes Family Sharing as a way to share eligible services and family features. Its personal-safety guide also describes family features such as a shared calendar. Neither of those documents says that ordinary alarms in each person’s iPhone Clock app are copied to other family members’ phones. You should therefore treat an alarm that appears on several devices as separate local alarms until you find evidence of another app or schedule creating it.
A family calendar and a Clock alarm serve different purposes. A calendar event can communicate an appointment to several people; a Clock alarm is a wake-up setting stored and managed on a device. Editing a shared calendar event should not be expected to remove an alarm that is already present in an individual Clock app.
Check the affected phones individually:
- Open Clock and look for an enabled alarm at the exact time, including alarms that repeat only on certain days.
- Confirm which Apple Account or Google account is signed in on each device. An account check can reveal that a phone is being used by a different household member, but it does not by itself prove that alarms are synchronized.
- Look for a wake-up alarm created by a sleep schedule. Apple’s iPhone guide distinguishes a regular Clock alarm from a wake-up alarm managed through a Health sleep schedule.
- Check whether another alarm, sleep, wellness or automation app is installed and enabled.
- Ask whether the same phone has been restored, replaced or shared recently; an old alarm may have been left enabled on a device that changed owners.
Apple’s Family Sharing overview and its Personal Safety User Guide explain the sharing features they document; they do not identify Family Sharing as an alarm-distribution mechanism. Do not leave a family group or change account membership as a first-line alarm fix.

Choose the fix that matches your goal
| Goal | Action | What remains unchanged |
|---|---|---|
| Let one person keep waking up | Leave that person’s alarm enabled and switch off matching alarms on other phones. | The owner’s phone continues to sound at its scheduled time. |
| Stop an alarm permanently | Delete it from the Clock app on the phone where it is stored. | Other phones and other alarms are unaffected. |
| Make one phone less loud | Adjust that phone’s alarm sound or alarm-volume control. | Volume settings do not control alarms on other devices. |
| Wake one person without a phone alarm | Use a separate bedside or bed-shaker alarm for that individual, if suitable. | Any enabled phone alarms still ring until they are disabled. |
The right choice depends on whether the problem is duplication, volume or ownership. Turning down one phone does not silence another phone, and deleting an alarm on one device does not remove an entry stored on a different device.
A separate physical alarm can be an individual wake-up option, but it is not a documented cure for alarms already enabled on several phones. It is an optional purchase rather than a required setting, and no particular product or performance claim should be assumed. Decide first which phone alarms should remain active.
Make an iPhone alarm quieter without disabling it
If the alarm belongs to the right person but is too loud for everyone nearby, change the sound and volume on that iPhone rather than touching the other phones.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Sounds & Haptics.
- Adjust Ringtone and Alerts, the control Apple identifies for alarm volume.
- Return to Clock > Alarms, open the alarm and choose a suitable sound. Keep the alarm enabled and test the result at a convenient time.
Do not rely on the iPhone’s Silent mode, Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode to keep an alarm quiet. Apple says iPhone alarms still sound when the phone is in Silent mode or a Focus mode. The alarm also plays through the built-in speakers even when headphones are connected, so headphones are not a supported way to prevent nearby people from hearing it. See the Apple alarm instructions for these behavior and control details.
This means an overnight Focus profile can still allow the alarm owner’s wake-up alert, but it cannot be used as a household privacy control. If nearby sleepers need silence, disable the unwanted alarm on their phones or move the alarm to a device intended for that person.
Use labels and repeat days as ownership markers
Give each alarm a label that includes the person’s name and purpose, such as “Sam — school days” or “Jordan — medication.” Select only the required repeat days. A clear label does not transfer an alarm to another phone; it simply makes it much harder to switch off the wrong one during a household check.
Put the person’s name first, followed by the purpose and days: “Lee — work — Mon–Fri” is easier to audit than “Morning.” Keep labels short enough to read in the alarm list. For a shared phone, agree that the owner confirms any deletion and that another person may switch an alarm off temporarily only after checking its label.

- SMALL BUT MIGHTY - If it takes an earthquake or siren to wake you up, this classically designed clock is exactly what you are looking for. The 3-level adjustable shaker is perfect for heavy sleeper or those with hearing loss. You also have the option to combine the vibration with the built-in alarm sound (buzzer, bird or music).
- EASY TO SETUP - Turning the two “ears” to set the time and alarm is extremely intuitive and straightforward. With all buttons clearly labeled and almost no two functions sharing the same button, it is a breeze to use right out of the box and change settings.
- CUSTOMIZABLE ALARM - The brightness of the classic is dial-controlled and adjustable from 0 to 100%. Dual alarms satisfy the need of anyone who shares the bed with a partner on a different morning schedule. Snooze allows extra 9 minutes of slumber.
- USB PORTS AND BATTERY BACKUP - 1 USB port located at the back will charge your mobile device while you sleep. AC-powered, but you have the option to back it up with 2 AAA batteries (NOT included) in case of power outage. Not only time and settings are restored, but alarms are also supported (vibration and USB will not work).

Review Android sound, vibration and repeat settings
Android lets you edit an alarm’s repeat pattern, vibration and sound from the alarm entry. If the aim is to reduce disturbance rather than cancel the wake-up:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open Clock > Alarm and tap the relevant alarm.
- Set only the required repeat days.
- Choose the sound and vibration behavior appropriate for the sleeper and the room.
- Save the alarm and verify that its switch remains on.
Google warns that an alarm with a silent ringtone and vibration turned off will not produce an audible or vibrating alert. Check the alarm’s sound and volume instead of assuming that two Android phones will behave identically. Manufacturer interfaces can place volume controls in different locations, but the alarm editor is the correct starting point: Google’s Android alarm guidance.
Do not assume that a vibration-only choice is always quieter in practice. A phone on a hard bedside table can still make noticeable noise, while a phone under bedding may behave differently. Test the selected sound and vibration during the day, then confirm that the alarm remains enabled for the intended days.
Do not confuse a missed alarm with a duplicated alarm
For an alarm that fails to sound, Google lists Clock notifications, Do Not Disturb settings, vibration, a silent sound, low volume and Battery Saver among possible checks. Those checks explain why one phone might miss an alarm; they do not establish why several family phones would ring. If multiple phones sound, first look for an enabled alarm on each device rather than changing Battery Saver or notification settings.
Conversely, if only one phone fails to wake its owner, do not delete alarms from the other phones as a test. Inspect the affected Android device’s sound, vibration, notification and battery settings, and verify that its alarm is actually switched on.

Investigate alarms that seem to duplicate themselves
Use this order so that you do not remove a useful family setting unnecessarily.
- Record the facts. Note the exact time, days, sound and every phone that rings. Identify whether all phones ring simultaneously or whether one starts after a snooze.
- Inspect local Clock alarms. On each iPhone use Clock > Alarms; on each Android use Clock > Alarm. Include disabled-looking repeat entries and alarms with labels that do not match the current owner.
- Check sleep schedules. On iPhone, inspect the Health sleep schedule as well as regular Clock alarms. A wake-up alarm can be managed separately from the ordinary alarm list.
- Check other alarm-capable apps. Review sleep, wellness, medication and automation apps for schedules at the same time. Disable one suspected schedule at a time so you can identify the source.
- Verify individual accounts. Confirm the Apple Account or Google account on each phone and ask who created the schedule. Account identity is useful evidence, but it is not proof that Family Sharing synchronizes ordinary alarms.
- Reproduce safely. Set a short test alarm on one phone, keep the other phones unchanged, and observe which device sounds. Cancel the test immediately after confirming the result.
When comparing the times, account for snooze behavior. Two alarms that sound a few minutes apart may be one person’s snooze followed by a second local alarm, rather than a single alarm copied between phones. Labels, repeat days and the sound selected for each entry can help distinguish those cases.

If no matching local alarm or secondary schedule exists, do not assume that leaving the family group will solve it. Apple’s documentation says that leaving Family Sharing changes access to shared services and content; the Family Sharing material does not present leaving as an alarm fix. Preserve the phone model, operating-system version, alarm time, account used, installed alarm apps and exact reproduction steps, then contact Apple or Google support for investigation.

Assign an owner to every alarm
Agree that each alarm belongs to one person and one device. The owner decides whether it is switched off, deleted or rescheduled. This avoids a well-intentioned family member deleting an alarm that someone still needs. If a phone is shared, keep a short household list of alarm owners until the labels are clear.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Use a consistent naming convention
Put the person’s name first, followed by the purpose and days. For example, “Lee — work — Mon–Fri” is easier to audit than “Morning.” Keep labels short enough to read in the alarm list. Use the same convention on iPhone and Android so a parent checking several phones can recognize ownership quickly.
Audit after changing routines
When school times, shifts or travel change, review every phone’s enabled alarms and repeat days. Turn off obsolete alarms rather than lowering their volume; a quiet alarm can still wake someone unexpectedly if it remains scheduled. After daylight-saving changes, travel or a phone replacement, verify the next occurrence on the device that belongs to the sleeper.
Separate shared calendar events from alarms
A calendar reminder can be shared as a family event, while a Clock alarm is a device wake-up setting. Use calendar events for information everyone needs and personal Clock alarms for one person’s wake-up requirement. Do not expect changing a shared calendar entry to remove a local alarm.
Keep a fallback plan for important wake-ups
For a medication, work shift or early departure, decide which single device is the primary alarm and who is responsible for checking it. A separate bedside or bed-shaker alarm can be considered when an individual needs a physical alternative, but it does not disable phone alarms and should be evaluated for the sleeper’s needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple Family Sharing sync Clock alarms?
Apple’s documented Family Sharing features include eligible shared services and family features such as a shared calendar, but they do not state that ordinary Clock alarms are copied between family members’ iPhones. Check each phone’s local Clock alarms and any sleep or third-party schedule first.
How do I stop one family member’s alarm without stopping mine?
On the phone that should be quiet, open Clock, open Alarms (or Alarm on Android), and switch off only the unwanted entry. Leave the required alarm enabled on its owner’s phone. Delete an entry only after confirming that nobody needs it.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Will Silent mode or Do Not Disturb silence an iPhone alarm?
No. Apple’s iPhone alarm guidance says alarms still sound in Silent mode and Focus modes. An alarm also plays through the built-in speakers when headphones are connected, so headphones are not a reliable household-silencing method.
Can a shared calendar reminder remove a phone alarm?
No documented connection establishes that behavior. A shared calendar event and a personal Clock alarm are separate features. Removing or editing the calendar event should not be expected to delete a local alarm.
Why do two phones ring at exactly the same time?
First look for matching enabled alarms on both phones, including repeating alarms. Then check an iPhone Health sleep schedule and any sleep, wellness, medication or automation app. The timing alone does not prove that Family Sharing synchronized the alarms.
How can I make an alarm quieter without disabling it?
On iPhone, adjust Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone and Alerts and choose an appropriate alarm sound. On Android, edit the alarm’s sound and vibration settings and verify the alarm volume on that device. These changes affect only the device being edited.

Google warns that a silent ringtone with vibration turned off means the alarm will not go off audibly or by vibration. Check the alarm’s sound, vibration and volume, along with Clock notifications, Do Not Disturb and Battery Saver when troubleshooting a missed alarm.
Should I leave Family Sharing to stop duplicate alarms?
No. Leaving a family group changes access to shared services and content, and it is not documented as an alarm remedy. Inspect local alarms, sleep schedules, other apps and account details first; contact Apple or Google support if no source can be found.
The Bottom Line
Family Sharing is not documented as a mechanism that copies ordinary Clock alarms. Check every ringing phone, switch off only the unwanted local alarms, and keep the needed person’s alarm enabled. Review repeat days, labels, sleep schedules and other alarm apps before changing family membership. Silent mode, Focus and headphones are not reliable ways to keep an iPhone alarm from waking nearby people.
