To stop seeing recommended posts while browsing Instagram, tap the Instagram logo at the top of your feed and select Following. That view shows posts from accounts you follow in chronological order, without suggested posts. It is a feed you choose—not a documented permanent default. A third-party report describes an Android automation that taps the selector for you, but it depends on screen coordinates and can misfire.
How do I stop seeing Instagram recommendations?
Use Instagram’s built-in Following feed: from the main feed, tap the Instagram logo at the top and choose Following. Instagram says this view contains posts only from accounts you follow, in chronological order, with no suggested posts. It includes up to the last 30 days of posts so you can catch up. These details come from Meta’s August 2022 product description; menu placement and labels may differ by app build or account rollout. Meta’s description of Instagram feed controls.
If you want a smaller feed, choose Favorites instead. Add accounts to Favorites to see a dedicated feed for them; Meta says their posts appear higher and more often. Following and Favorites are feed views you select. Meta’s cited descriptions do not say either one becomes the permanent screen Instagram opens to.

These controls solve different problems. Not interested gives feedback about a post; snoozing is a time-limited pause; resetting clears the current recommendations but does not freeze them. Meta says recommendations personalize again over time based on the content and accounts you interact with. Meta’s November 2024 recommendations-reset announcement.

Following’s no-suggestions description does not establish that ads disappear. A March 2024 MacRumors guide also distinguishes suggested posts from ads and says ads remain after snoozing. MacRumors’ guide to feed suggestions.
Can I make Instagram open to Following?
Meta’s cited guidance explains how to select Following, but does not document a setting that makes it the permanent opening feed. A September 17, 2026 third-party report describes an Android workaround using MacroDroid: launch Instagram, wait for the interface, tap the feed selector using screen coordinates, wait again, then tap Following or Favorites. This is an automation that imitates screen taps, not an Instagram feature. The reported Android MacroDroid workflow.

The report warns that coordinates vary by device, the default feed may flash briefly before the automation switches views, and running the macro again at the wrong moment can tap an unintended part of the screen. The workflow has not been independently tested here, so treat it as a device-dependent example rather than a guaranteed set of instructions. The same report discusses iOS Shortcuts and Samsung SmartThings routes to Instagram Messages, not to Following or Favorites; it does not establish an equivalent iPhone recommendation-avoidance automation.
