To stop a Google Calendar reminder from interrupting you in Android Auto, change the narrowest setting that fits: remove the notification from one event, turn off notifications for the relevant calendar, or disable Calendar app notifications on your phone. Google’s documented instructions do not include a dedicated Android Auto toggle for Calendar notifications, so the right fix depends on which alerts you want to keep elsewhere.
Start by identifying what you want to stop and where you want it stopped. An event reminder, an app notification on your phone, a task alert, and a broader driving interruption are not necessarily controlled by the same setting. Choosing the right scope helps avoid turning off reminders you still need on another calendar or device.
Choose which notifications to stop
Calendar reminders, phone app notifications, and driving-mode filters are different controls. Before changing settings, decide whether you want to silence one event, one calendar, all Calendar notifications on this phone, or interruptions more broadly while driving. There is no dedicated Google Calendar notification switch for Android Auto in Google’s documented instructions, so these are the relevant controls to consider rather than a guaranteed in-car-only setting.

These controls are not interchangeable. For example, disabling the Calendar app’s phone notifications is broader on that phone than removing a reminder from one event, while a calendar-level change may affect notifications on other devices. A practical order is to check the specific event first, then the relevant calendar, then the phone’s app-notification setting if you want a more general change. Use Driving mode or Do Not Disturb when the aim is to reduce interruptions while driving overall, rather than to change a particular Calendar reminder. If you rely on computer or email notifications, take that into account before changing calendar-level settings.
Remove a reminder from one event
If only a particular appointment is causing trouble, edit that event rather than changing the calendar’s default notifications. This is the narrowest documented change: it addresses the reminder attached to that event without intentionally changing reminders for other events or calendars.
- Open the Google Calendar app on your Android phone.
- Open the event you want to change.
- Tap Edit.
- Remove the event’s notification, then save the event.
This changes the reminder for that event, not the notification settings for other events. If the event has more than one notification, check each entry and remove the one or ones you no longer want. If you want to preserve a reminder at another time, do not remove that entry; adjust only the notification you intend to stop.

For example, if one event has a reminder that you do not need, editing that event avoids changing the settings for every event in the calendar. If similar alerts continue for other events, the cause may instead be a calendar-level setting or a different alert type, so move to the relevant section below.
Turn off notifications for one calendar
Use this option when reminders from a particular calendar are the problem but you still want notifications from other calendars. Calendar settings may contain multiple notification entries, so review each one for the calendar you selected. If you use more than one account or calendar, make sure you are changing the relevant one rather than assuming a setting applies to everything.
- Open Google Calendar and tap Menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Select the relevant calendar.
- Tap a notification and choose No notification.
- Repeat for other notification entries in that calendar, and for any other calendars or accounts whose reminders you also want to stop.
This is an account-level Calendar setting, not just a way to hide an alert in the car. Google says changes made on the phone can sync with computer notifications. If you want to retain reminders on other devices, use the phone’s app-notification control instead.

Before choosing this route, consider whether reminders from that calendar are useful on a computer as well as on the phone. Because the Calendar notification setting can sync with computer notifications, setting it to No notification may have a wider effect than an in-car-only change. If your goal is to silence Calendar app notifications on this phone while leaving computer and email notifications alone, the Android app-notification setting is the closer match.

Turn off Calendar app notifications on the phone
If you want Calendar to stop sending app notifications to this Android phone, use the phone’s notification settings:
- Open Android Settings.
- Tap Notifications, then App notifications.
- Select Calendar.
- Turn Calendar notifications off.
Android menu names can differ by device. This setting controls Calendar app notifications on the phone; it does not silence computer or email notifications. It is also broader than removing one event reminder, so choose it only if you want Calendar app notifications on the phone to stop generally.
Use this option when the desired result is to stop Calendar app notifications on the device rather than to change an individual event or calendar. It may be less suitable if you still want ordinary Calendar notifications on the phone but are trying to address just one event. In that case, edit that event instead. Likewise, if you want to preserve notifications on other devices, be cautious about changing a Calendar-level setting that can sync.

Device manufacturers can label or arrange Android settings differently, so if the exact wording is not present, look within the phone’s notification settings for app-specific notification controls and Calendar. Google notes that device settings may differ. The key is to change Calendar’s app-notification control, not a setting for another app that might also display calendar information.

Use Driving mode or Do Not Disturb for broader quiet
If the goal is fewer interruptions while driving—not simply fewer Calendar reminders—review Android’s Driving mode or Do Not Disturb filters. Google documents Driving mode under Android Settings > Modes, including an automatic While driving option. Filters, labels, and available steps depend on the device and Android version; some of Google’s mode instructions apply only to Android 14 or later.
These are broader Android interruption controls rather than a dedicated Calendar-in-Android-Auto switch. Review the notification filters available on your phone and choose the scope you want before driving. See Google’s Android guide to Modes and Do Not Disturb for device-dependent instructions.
Think of this as a choice between changing Calendar itself and changing the phone’s interruption behavior in a driving context. If you want Calendar reminders to remain configured as usual outside that context, a mode or Do Not Disturb filter may be worth reviewing. If your concern is a single event or a particular calendar, the Calendar controls above are more targeted. The available filters and setup steps are not uniform across Android devices, so check the options actually shown on your phone rather than relying on a menu name that may not exist on your version.
Do not assume that Driving mode or Do Not Disturb will affect only Calendar, or that every Android phone offers the same filtering choices. Read the available settings carefully and choose filters consistent with the notifications you want to allow. If the issue is specifically a Calendar event reminder, you can also use the event or calendar setting rather than changing a broader driving mode.
Check whether the alert is an event reminder or a task alert
Google Calendar has separate settings for Calendar notifications, Tasks notifications, and overdue Tasks notifications. If changing an event reminder does not address the alert, check whether it is actually a task notification and review the corresponding setting. Google’s Android instructions for changing Calendar settings on a phone or tablet describe these separate controls.
The available Google guidance does not establish how every Calendar or Tasks notification is presented through Android Auto. Identify the alert type before changing settings, and avoid assuming that a single Calendar setting controls every in-car alert. In particular, a task notification or an overdue-task notification may need attention in its own setting rather than through the event-reminder controls.

A useful troubleshooting sequence is to note whether the alert relates to an event, a task, or an overdue task, then inspect the matching settings category. If it is an event, use the event’s edit screen or the relevant calendar’s notification settings. If it is a task-related alert, review the separate Tasks or overdue Tasks controls. If you cannot tell which it is, avoid making broad changes until you can identify the alert, since disabling unrelated notifications may not solve the problem and may remove alerts you still want.
Do not disable Calendar data sharing as a notification fix
Google Calendar’s Share Google Calendar data with other apps option controls access to calendar data through Calendar Provider for apps that have Calendar permission. It is a data-access control, not a documented targeted way to silence Calendar alerts in Android Auto. Turning it off may affect third-party calendar apps, widgets, other apps, and some Android system features. See Google’s instructions for controlling Calendar data sharing with other apps before changing it.
This setting addresses whether permitted apps can access calendar data, which is different from changing reminder notifications. It is therefore not the narrow fix for a distracting Calendar alert. If your goal is fewer notifications, use the event, calendar, Android app-notification, or driving-mode controls that match the scope of the problem instead. Consider the possible effects on apps, widgets, and system features before changing access to Calendar data.
Keep Waze calendar reminders separate
If you also use Waze, its calendar integration is a separate source of time-to-leave notifications; do not assume those are Google Calendar reminders displayed through Android Auto. Waze’s help page says its calendar feature is not supported on Android Auto, Android Automotive, or CarPlay. Consult the Waze calendar-sync instructions if the alert appears to come from Waze.
That distinction matters when a Calendar change seems not to address the alert. Waze calendar integration and Google Calendar event notifications are separate features, and the documented Waze calendar feature is not supported on Android Auto. Identify which app is generating the notification before changing settings; changing Google Calendar will not necessarily address a separate Waze time-to-leave alert.

None of the documented controls guarantees an Android Auto-only result. Removing an event notification changes that event’s reminder. Setting a calendar to No notification can affect Calendar notifications on other devices through sync. Disabling Calendar app notifications applies to the phone and does not silence computer or email notifications. Driving mode and Do Not Disturb are broader interruption controls, with options that vary by device and Android version.

That means the best setting depends on the tradeoff you are willing to make. If the alert is isolated, start with its event. If one calendar is responsible and you are comfortable with the possible computer-sync effect, use that calendar’s notification settings. If you want to silence Calendar on the phone generally, use Android app notifications. If the aim is quieter driving overall, review the driving-mode filters and confirm which other notifications they may affect.
