To steam clean a Samsung convection oven, first confirm that your exact model has a Steam Clean cycle and follow its manual. For the general Samsung U.S. procedure, remove the racks and accessories, add one cup of tap water to the Steam Clean tray—or directly onto the oven floor if the model has no tray—then select Steam Clean and Start. Let the oven cool before wiping away the water and loosened residue.
Before you start: check your Samsung model
Steam Clean is available on some Samsung ovens, not all of them. Samsung says cycle availability and controls vary by model, so check the user manual for your exact oven before adding water or starting a cycle. The generic steps below describe Samsung’s U.S. guidance for models using a Steam Clean tray or oven floor; reservoir-equipped models may use a different cycle and water quantity.
Samsung describes Steam Cleaning as “a less intensive alternative to a full Self Clean cycle.” Samsung’s oven-cleaning instructions provide the general U.S. procedure.
How do I steam clean my Samsung oven?
- Empty the oven. Remove the racks and accessories, including a divider if your oven has one.
- Add water using the setup specified for your model. For the general U.S. Steam Clean procedure, pour one cup of tap water—not distilled water—into the Steam Clean tray. If your model has no tray, Samsung’s U.S. instructions say to pour the water onto the oven bottom. Close the door.
- Start Steam Clean. Select Steam Clean, then Start. The button sequence and control layout vary, particularly between knob and touchscreen models, so use your manual rather than assuming the controls match another oven.
- Wait for the oven to cool, then wipe it out. The oven and water left inside are hot immediately after the cycle. Once the oven has cooled, wipe away the water and loosened residue with a sponge or soft, dry cloth.
If your oven has a water reservoir
Do not apply the tray-or-oven-floor instructions to a reservoir-equipped oven without checking its manual. Samsung’s U.S. guidance says some reservoir models may use a cycle called Hybrid Clean and specifies 2¼ cups of water in the reservoir for that setup—not on the oven floor. Confirm the cycle name, water quantity, and procedure in the manual for your model.

Instructions can also be model-specific after the cycle starts. For example, a Samsung built-in oven manual for a reservoir-equipped model warns users not to open the door before the cycle finishes because the water is very hot. It advises leaving the door ajar afterward to dry the interior. Follow those directions only if they apply to your oven.
Steam Clean vs. Self Clean vs. Steam Cook

When Steam Clean may not be enough
Steam Clean is intended to loosen light soil; it does not burn away heavy buildup as Self Clean does. For stubborn soil, consult your model’s manual for the recommended cleaning method. A Samsung manual for one reservoir-equipped oven recommends removing stubborn soil manually with a cleaning agent before running Steam Clean, but that is a model-specific instruction—not a universal step for every Samsung oven.
