In GTA 6 preview footage, you can enter some parked cars by smashing a window or using a slim jim in a brief right-stick minigame. Some vehicles reportedly require tools you acquire later in the story. The game is unreleased as of October 4, 2026, so these are preview-era mechanics—not confirmed final instructions or button mappings.
How to enter a parked car in GTA 6
- Check the vehicle with the reported WAINK phone app. Preview reporting says it can show whether a car is locked, has an alarm or tracker, its approximate resale value, registration cost, and the tool needed to access it. The app’s final behavior has not been confirmed.
- Choose an available entry option. Pre-release material shows window-smashing and slim-jim entry. The latter involves a short right-stick minigame; exact final controls are not established.
- Use another approach if the car is gated. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said some parked cars are inaccessible until the player advances in the story and acquires certain tools. The interview does not provide a complete tool list or unlock order.
Nelson also said, “You can always carjack any driver you see.” Preview reporting therefore distinguishes between some parked cars that need tools and a vehicle occupied by a driver. This describes a game mechanic, not advice for real life.

Nelson told GamesRadar that the wanted system requires someone to witness a crime or an alarm to be triggered for it to be reported to law. Preview coverage also describes police tracking identifying details, including the vehicle and the protagonists’ appearance. In a demonstration, changing vehicles removed the car from police recognition; that does not establish that swapping cars always clears a wanted level or guarantees escape.

Do not assume a quiet entry prevents police attention: the available reporting describes the slim-jim option as quieter, not as a way to avoid detection in every circumstance.

Rockstar’s official GTA VI page identifies PlayStation 5 as a platform and describes Jason and Lucia’s story in Vice City and Leonida. It does not confirm the car-entry controls or the previewed security mechanics. Those details come from preview material and interview reporting, not a final manual or independent hands-on verification.
