You can start watching League of Legends esports without playing the game: open the official LoL Esports schedule, choose an upcoming match, check its local start time and series format, then watch the linked live broadcast. For a first match, focus on which teams are playing, what stage they are in, and who is ahead in the series—not on understanding every champion or play.
Where to watch League of Legends esports live
The LoL Esports schedule is the simplest starting point. It lists leagues, fixtures, results, and event stages. Select a match to find its current broadcast; Riot says its platform embeds Twitch or YouTube players. The available feeds can vary, so check the event or league page rather than assuming every match has the same options.
Before pressing play, note the league or event, stage, teams, local start time, and format shown for the fixture. Match times and results change, so use the live schedule for the current listing.

League of Legends competition begins with regional leagues. The 2026 League Handbook describes three splits: Split 1 leads into the international First Stand event, Split 2 leads into the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), and Split 3 leads to Worlds. Regional competitions determine which teams reach those global events.
#1 Best Overall
Riot groups competition across the Americas (LCS and CBLOL), EMEA (LEC), Korea (LCK), China (LPL), and Asia-Pacific (LCP). These broad regions are not the same thing as the league labels: the handbook lists six leagues, and the schedule presents individual competitions. Regions also use different split formats, so check the specific league page for a match’s rules.
A regional match is a good choice if you want to follow teams through a league season. An international event is a way to see teams that qualified from different regions compete against one another.
What to watch first in a match
Match listings identify whether a fixture is a best-of-one (Bo1), best-of-three (Bo3), or best-of-five (Bo5). A best-of series can continue across several games, with the series result—not just one game—deciding who advances or wins. You do not need a full grasp of the game to follow that basic arc.

Do you need to play League to understand esports?
No. You can follow the teams, stage, and series result without playing League of Legends. The main broadcast may not explain basic game concepts, however. In an April 19, 2023 article, Riot President of Esports John Needham wrote, “If you watch a Riot Games esports broadcast you’ll notice that we spend little time explaining the fundamentals of the game.” He characterized Riot broadcasts as focused more on strategic detail and said gaming influencers and streamers can be better at explaining fundamentals.

If the main feed moves too quickly, look for a current co-stream or a concise beginner explainer in a language you understand. Treat these as optional ways to add context, not as required viewing: no particular creator or current co-stream was verified here. Check that a co-stream is authorized and available for the event. You can also watch the official feed and look up unfamiliar terms as they arise.
What should you watch next? Worlds 2026
As of October 7, 2026, the official schedule lists Worlds from October 15 through November 14. Riot’s March 22 event announcement gives this stage calendar:
Rank #4
- Play-In: October 15–18 at Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles.
- Swiss stage: October 23–26 and October 28–31 at Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas.
- Knockout stage: November 3–8 in Allen; quarterfinals are November 3–6 and semifinals November 7–8.
- Grand Final: November 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Worlds is the season’s final international tournament. Riot’s 2026 update describes a 19-team field and a four-team, double-elimination, best-of-five Play-In bracket; one team advances from Play-In to Swiss. That is why some teams begin the tournament earlier than others. Consult the official schedule for current match times and fixtures.

Can you get drops for watching?
Do not count on a reward being active or guaranteed. Riot’s detailed LoL Esports drops instructions cover the 2024 season: they said viewers had to be signed in and watch live on LoLEsports.com for a chance at drops, that VOD viewing did not count, and that availability could vary by region and league. Those instructions do not establish that Worlds 2026 has drops.
Riot also documented a separate Twitch Drops campaign for January 9–25, 2026, involving eligible League Partner Program channels and linked Riot and Twitch accounts. That campaign has ended. For any event, check its current reward notice for the dates, eligible broadcast, sign-in requirements, and regional conditions before expecting a drop.
Watching online or attending in person
Online viewing is enough to get started; the schedule links to digital broadcasts. Attending is optional and depends on venue, travel, and ticket availability. Riot’s 2026 event announcement lists Worlds venues and ticket-sale context, but those details can change. Check the current official event page before making plans.
