To create a separate PDF for every page, use Acrobat desktop’s Extract pages tool and enable Extract pages as separate files. On a Mac, Preview can also export selected pages by dragging them from its thumbnail sidebar to a folder.
Make one PDF per page in Acrobat desktop

Open the PDF in Acrobat.

Choose All tools > Organize pages > Extract pages.

Select the page range you want to extract.

Check Extract pages as separate files, then select Extract.

When prompted, save the new PDFs. Choose whether to delete the extracted pages from the original; leave them in place if you want to keep the source PDF intact.

Adobe says bookmarks and article threads associated with extracted pages are not included in the new documents. Adobe’s desktop extraction instructions describe the workflow and its limitation.

Use Preview on a Mac

Open the PDF in Preview and show the page thumbnails.

Select the page or pages you want to separate.

Drag the selected thumbnails to the desktop or a folder.

When to use Split instead of Extract
Acrobat’s Split tool is for dividing a PDF into larger sections according to a rule. It can split by a fixed page count, maximum file size, or top-level bookmarks. Use it when you want chapter-sized or evenly grouped files—not when you need a guaranteed separate file for every page. For the latter, use Extract and select Extract pages as separate files.

Acrobat on the web lets you upload a PDF and mark divider lines between page thumbnails. The resulting files are saved to Adobe cloud storage. Adobe’s help page, updated April 1, 2026, describes a limit of up to 22 divider lines. Its public online tool page instead describes up to 19 divider lines and up to 20 output files; the two published counts differ, so check the current interface and your account rather than treating either figure as a universal limit.

Because this workflow uploads the document, use it only when the file is appropriate for that service. Adobe’s public tool page says files are deleted unless you sign in to save them; verify the current service terms and retention details before uploading sensitive documents.
