For a silent Pidgin install through Microsoft Configuration Manager (formerly SCCM), use the official offline installer with /S. A typical command is pidgin-x.y.z-offline.exe /DS=1 /SMS=0 /L=1033 /S /D=C:Pidgin; replace the example filename with the actual versioned installer you are packaging. If you use /D, keep it last and do not quote its path, even when the path contains spaces.
What is the silent Pidgin install command?
Pidgin documents this example for its Windows offline installer:
pidgin-x.y.z-offline.exe /DS=1 /SMS=0 /L=1033 /S /D=C:Pidgin
The filename’s x.y.z is illustrative, not a literal version. Use the installer file you have selected, and confirm its name and switches against Pidgin’s Windows-specific help.

The language, shortcut, and directory options are optional. If you specify /D, it must be the final argument and must not be enclosed in quotation marks, including when the path contains spaces. For example, the documented ordering rule still applies to a path such as /D=C:Program FilesPidgin.

How to configure it as a Configuration Manager application
Create an application and deployment type in Configuration Manager, then use the chosen versioned offline installer and its silent command in the installation program field. Microsoft’s Create applications documentation describes the console workflow. Set requirements, detection, content, and deployment behavior for your organization’s target devices and rollout policy; the silent command alone does not configure those parts of deployment.
- Select the package: place the intended Pidgin offline installer in the application’s source content and use its exact filename rather than the example placeholder.
- Set the installation program: enter the installer filename followed by the documented switches, including
/S. Keep/Dlast if you include it. - Configure requirements and detection: define which devices qualify and how Configuration Manager determines whether Pidgin is installed, according to your environment’s deployment policy.
- Distribute and deploy: ensure the application content is available to the targeted clients, then deploy it using the intended rollout behavior.
Plan for GTK runtime and network access
Pidgin’s Windows help says the installer can download and install the GTK runtime if it is needed. A proxy or other network restriction may prevent access to the required resources. The help recommends using the offline installer as an alternative when download errors occur. For managed deployments, validate the package in the client environment and make required runtime content available rather than relying on unmanaged endpoint downloads.

Configuration Manager evaluates application requirements and detection, acquires content, enforces the deployment type, and reports status. Identify the stage that failed before changing the installer command: a policy or requirement issue, missing content, installer execution, and result reporting call for different investigation.

Microsoft’s Install Application troubleshooting article explains the deployment sequence and discusses relevant logs. It uses SMSTS.log for task-sequence activity and AppEnforce.log for application enforcement. Use the logs applicable to your deployment context to establish whether the failure occurred before enforcement, during installer execution, or while results were being reported. The article’s example log entries are illustrations, not current version specifications.
