For broader U.S. food recall coverage, sign up for both FDA and USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) updates: their responsibilities differ. Use the FDA recall subscription for FDA-regulated food notices and the FSIS Recalls subscription for meat, poultry, and processed egg products. You can also use FoodSafety.gov’s combined recall resources to follow both agencies in one place.
Why sign up with both FDA and USDA FSIS?
The two agencies cover different food categories. In general, FSIS regulates meat, poultry, and processed egg products, while FDA regulates other food products. A subscription to one agency therefore may not cover all the categories you care about. See FSIS’s explanation of food recalls for more on its role.
How to sign up for FDA food recall notifications
- Open the FDA’s Food Recalls: What You Need to Know page and follow its recall subscription link.
- Choose the notification scope offered in the signup flow. FDA describes options for all recalls, the Food commodity, and individual recall events.
- Choose daily or weekly notifications where offered. The FDA email signup requires a valid email address; its Get Email Updates page explains that subscribers select topics.
- Complete any confirmation steps shown during signup, then keep the subscription preferences available so you can change selected topics later.
FDA cautions that not every recall appears on its public Recalls, Market Withdrawals, and Safety Alerts page. Its Enforcement Report includes recalls of FDA-regulated products, so do not treat any single public recall page as a complete record of every notice.
How to sign up for USDA FSIS recall notifications
- Open FSIS News Feeds & Subscriptions.
- Use the subscription sign-up and select the FSIS Recalls category to receive items added under that heading.
- Follow the signup flow to complete your subscription. FSIS says its GovDelivery email service is free and that subscribers can add or delete subscription items at any time.
Prefer RSS to email?
On the FSIS subscriptions page, choose the Recalls RSS feed and add it to an RSS reader. FSIS notes that you may need an RSS reader or a browser plug-in to use feeds. RSS is an alternative way to follow updates, not an email subscription.

Can you follow FDA and USDA recalls in one place?
Yes. FoodSafety.gov provides combined FDA and USDA recall information and alert resources. FDA describes a Food Recalls Widget that compiles information from both agencies, while FSIS points to a feed showing both agencies’ recalls and an automatic-alert option. Start at the FDA’s Recalls, Outbreaks & Emergencies page or FSIS’s Additional Recalls page for links to these combined resources.
The combined option is useful for checking both agencies together; subscribe directly with FDA and FSIS if you specifically want email from each agency.

What to expect after subscribing
- FDA lets subscribers choose among broader recall coverage, food commodity notices, and individual recall events, with daily or weekly delivery options described by the agency.
- FSIS offers a dedicated email category for recalls and a separate RSS feed.
- Neither agency’s linked information guarantees how quickly an alert will arrive after a recall notice is published. Treat alerts as a helpful notification channel, not an instant-warning service.
