The right sign-out steps depend on both the streaming service and the device, so there is no button sequence that works for every app. First return to the app’s home screen and look for a profile or account area, Settings, Get Help, or a sign-out option. If those controls are missing, use the service’s official instructions for your exact device. For a verified example, Netflix on supported Roku TVs has a menu route and a directional-button fallback.
Try the app’s home screen first
Some apps hide account controls while a video is playing or inside a submenu. Press Back or Home on the remote to return to the streaming app’s home screen, then check for a profile or account icon, Settings, Get Help, or Sign out. Menu layouts differ by service and device; do not assume a button sequence for one app applies to another.
If the app offers no visible route, search the service’s official help instructions for the app and device model you use. The Netflix steps below apply specifically to the Roku TV models listed in Netflix’s instructions.

Netflix on supported Roku TVs: sign out through the app
Netflix lists these steps for Haier, Hisense, Insignia, Sharp, and TCL Roku TVs. Start from the Netflix home screen and press Back on the remote to open the app menu. The next choice depends on where that menu appears:
#1 Best Overall
- NO PROGRAMMING REQUIRED FOR SIX TV BRANDS — Preprogrammed buttons instantly control Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio, Fire TVs and Roku TVs (some Sharp and Insignia Roku TVs may require programming); requires two AAA batteries (not included)
- STREAMING APP HOTKEYS — Dedicated buttons provide direct access to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and YouTube when installed by the TV manufacturer; support for user-installed apps may vary
- FULLY BACKLIT KEYPAD — Illuminated buttons improve visibility and navigation in dark rooms, bedrooms, media rooms and other low-light environments
- DESIGNED FOR SMART TVs — Convenient replacement remote for compatible Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio, Fire TV and Roku TV models throughout your home
- EASY SETUP AND CONTROL — Simply insert two AAA batteries and select your TV brand; no programming required for supported TVs
- Menu across the top: Move left to the profile icon, choose Get Help, then Sign out, and confirm with Yes.
- Menu on the left: Choose Get Help at the bottom, then Sign out, and confirm with Yes.
If Get Help is not visible, move up in the menu and select Settings. Netflix’s instructions identify this as the alternative route to the sign-out controls. Netflix’s Roku TV sign-out instructions provide the device-specific steps.
Netflix on Roku TV: use the remote-button fallback
If you still cannot find Get Help, Settings, or Sign out, Netflix documents this sequence on the remote while Netflix is open:

- Easy voice search & control: Quickly search across thousands of top channels, play entertainment, control your streaming, and more with your voice
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, control your Roku device, switch inputs on your Roku TV, and more—all in a tap
- Pre-set channel shortcuts: Pre-set channel shortcuts let you launch popular streaming channels with the push of a button, all without having to scroll
- Simple setup: Simply turn on your Roku device and pull the battery tab on the back of the remote and it should pair automatically
- Works with your Roku device: Roku Voice Remote works with all Roku TV models, Roku audio products, and most Roku players*
- Press Up twice.
- Press Down twice.
- Press Left, then Right, then Left, then Right.
- Press Up four times.
- In the menu that appears, choose Sign out if available.
The menu may instead offer Start Over, Reset, or Deactivate. Select the sign-out choice specifically when it is available; the documented route does not mean you need to factory-reset the TV. See Netflix’s device instructions for the supported Roku TV models and options.
Sign out of Netflix from your account if you cannot use the TV
If the TV is inaccessible, Netflix’s Manage Access and Devices page lets you select a device and choose Sign Out, or choose Sign Out of All Devices and confirm. Netflix describes the page this way: “Use the Manage Access and Devices page to sign out of one or all devices, or to see signed-in devices that have been recently active on the account.”

Device records are not necessarily immediate or complete: Netflix says a device may take up to 48 hours to appear, and some may not be listed, including devices inactive for 90 days or certain non-streaming uses. If you are responding to an unfamiliar session, follow Netflix’s account-security guidance as well.
When Roku options are not the same as app sign-out
Using the Roku mobile app or removing the app
The Roku mobile app can provide a remote for a connected Roku device, which may help if the physical remote is unavailable. Roku also documents removing an installed app, but removal is not established as a guaranteed way to revoke that streaming service’s account session. Roku notes that Remove app may be unavailable when there is an active subscription or current billing cycle; check subscription status before treating app removal as a workaround. Roku’s app-removal guidance was last updated June 22, 2026.
Rank #4
- Multi-device control – Operate up to four audio and video devices such as your TV, Blu-ray player, DVD player, cable or satellite receiver, soundbar, streaming media player or other compatible devices
- Best TV remote code library – Universal TV remote works with all major brands and supports thousands of the latest audio and video devices (not for use with radio frequency devices like Roku Streaming Sticks and Amazon Fire TV/Sticks)
- Simple setup – Add two AAA batteries (not included) and enjoy easy automatic code search and direct code entry programming, as well as master volume control to adjust the audio no matter which device is being used
- Preprogrammed for Samsung and Roku – Universal remote’s TV and STRM device buttons are preprogrammed for immediate use with Samsung TVs and Roku streaming media boxes (not compatible with Roku Streaming Sticks)
- Fully backlit with a stylish finish – The classic black finish adds a classic look to any decor; blue LED backlighting helps you see each button easily in dark or dimly lit rooms
Roku Guest Mode
Guest Mode is a Roku device feature, not a sign-out control for one streaming app. Roku says users can sign out of Guest Mode and clear its information through Guest Mode Options; a host can also sign a guest out remotely from the Roku account. Availability depends on country, and Roku OS may label the feature Auto Sign Out. Use Roku’s Guest Mode instructions only if you are trying to end a Guest Mode session, not just sign out of a provider app. The page was last updated July 7, 2026.
Why another streaming app may need different steps
Sign-out controls are provider-specific. For example, Discovery GO says its TV app route is to select Sign Out from the main screen. Its iOS instructions also note that device-level TV Provider single sign-on can interfere with signing out through the app. That route should not be applied to unrelated services; follow the provider’s own instructions for the platform in question. Discovery GO’s sign-out guidance explains its app-specific case.
