If your Starlink passkey is unavailable, start with Starlink’s account-recovery page rather than guessing at a passkey workaround. Recover with the email address on the account, or with its mobile phone number by SMS. If you can access neither, use Starlink’s locked-out recovery form to contact support. Starlink’s published help pages explain password resets, verification codes, browser troubleshooting and escalation, but they do not document a passkey-specific bypass, removal or replacement procedure.
Choose the recovery route that matches what you can access
Use the account contact method you can currently reach. The email and SMS routes are separate password-reset processes, and Starlink says each one automatically signs you in after the reset is completed.
| Route | What you need | What Starlink says happens | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email recovery | Access to the email address associated with the Starlink account | You request a reset, follow the message titled “Reset Your Starlink Password,” and are automatically signed in after resetting | You must be able to open that account’s email |
| SMS recovery | Access to the mobile phone number stored on the account | You request a reset, follow the SMS instructions, and are automatically signed in after resetting | A landline cannot receive this SMS reset |
| Locked-out recovery | An alternate contact method and enough information to complete Starlink’s verification flow | You submit the recovery form, verify your email and use the assistant flow to create a support ticket for an agent | This is the documented path when neither the account email nor phone is available |
Do not treat a two-step verification passcode as the same thing as a passkey. A passkey is a sign-in credential stored on a device or in a password manager. Starlink’s two-step verification help page discusses temporary codes delivered by email or SMS. The troubleshooting steps for those codes are useful when a code is the problem, but they do not establish how Starlink handles an unavailable passkey.
Before you begin recovery
A few checks can prevent you from choosing a route that cannot work:

- Identify the email address originally used for the Starlink account. A different personal or work address will not receive that account’s reset message.
- Determine whether the phone number on the account is a mobile number that can receive SMS. A landline is not eligible for the SMS reset route.
- Have access to a browser or device where you can open email and complete the reset page. If the Starlink app is outdated, update it before trying again.
- Temporarily disable a VPN while requesting a code or reset email, since Starlink lists VPN interference as a troubleshooting issue.
- Do not send passwords, passkeys or one-time codes to anyone offering to help. Starlink’s own verification guidance says not to share a passcode.
If you already know that both account contact methods are unavailable, go directly to the locked-out recovery section instead of repeatedly requesting codes you cannot receive.
Recover your account with the email address
Email recovery is the most direct option when you can open the inbox connected to your Starlink account.
- Open Starlink’s account-recovery page from the sign-in screen or Starlink’s Help Center.
- Choose the email recovery option.
- Enter the email address associated with the account and request a password reset.
- Open the email titled Reset Your Starlink Password. Check the spam or junk folder if it does not appear in the main inbox.
- Use the reset link and set a new password according to the instructions on the page.
- Return to the sign-in flow if necessary. Starlink states that completing this reset automatically signs you into the account.
If the reset message never arrives, first confirm that you entered the same email address used for the Starlink account. Then check spam filtering, search the mailbox for the exact subject, and request a fresh reset message. Avoid repeatedly submitting requests in rapid succession; use the newest message if several arrive, because an older reset link may no longer be valid.
Search every relevant mailbox folder, including quarantine or promotional folders managed by your email provider. If you have multiple Starlink accounts, make sure the address you entered belongs to the service account you intend to recover. A reset that succeeds for one account will not sign you into another.
The published instructions do not say whether the reset changes, removes or replaces a passkey requirement. They only document the password-reset and automatic sign-in result. If Starlink presents a passkey prompt again after recovery, follow the alternative recovery choices shown on screen or move to the locked-out support route rather than assuming that deleting a device credential will fix the account.
Recover with the phone number on the account
Use SMS recovery when the account email is unavailable but the phone number stored in Starlink’s account can receive text messages.
- Open Starlink’s account-recovery page.
- Choose recovery by phone.
- Enter the mobile number associated with the account and request a reset code or reset message.
- Read the SMS and follow its reset instructions.
- Complete the password reset. Starlink says this flow automatically signs you into the account.
This route depends on receiving SMS on the number already registered to the account. A landline cannot use the SMS reset option. If you recently changed numbers, lost the SIM, cannot receive texts while roaming, or are entering a number that is not on the account, use the locked-out recovery process instead.
Check that your phone has cellular service and that message filtering is not hiding the text. If multiple codes arrive, use only the most recent one. Do not keep trying an old code after requesting a replacement.

Never give a reset code to another person. Starlink’s two-step verification guidance says: “Starlink will never call or text you for this passcode. Do not share it with anyone.” A caller or texter requesting the code is not a legitimate part of this recovery procedure.
Email versus SMS: which route should you choose?
The choice is based on access, not on which method is generally better. Choose email when the account inbox works but the phone is lost, changed or unable to receive texts. Choose SMS when the email account is locked, deleted or otherwise inaccessible and the registered mobile number still works.
SMS is not a fallback for an arbitrary phone number: it must be the mobile number stored on the Starlink account. Likewise, entering an email address you currently use will not help unless it is the address associated with that account. If both conditions are uncertain, try the information you believe is on file once, then use the locked-out form rather than cycling through guesses.
Both documented routes have the same stated outcome: after you complete the password reset, Starlink says it automatically signs you in. That statement does not explain whether a passkey prompt will appear later, so keep the recovery and passkey questions separate when contacting support.
When you cannot access either the email or phone
Starlink’s documented escalation path is its locked-out recovery form. This is the appropriate route when you cannot open the account email and cannot receive SMS at the phone number on file.
- Open Starlink’s account-recovery page and select the option indicating that you are locked out or cannot access the listed contact methods.
- Provide alternate contact information that you can access. Use an address where Starlink’s verification messages can reach you.
- Complete the email-verification step requested by the form.
- Continue through Starlink’s support assistant flow and submit the information it requests.
- Confirm that the process creates a support ticket for a Starlink agent. Keep the ticket details and monitor the alternate contact method for replies.
Give accurate account information and explain which original recovery methods are unavailable. Do not create a second Starlink account merely to reach support; that can make it harder to establish which account owns the service. The help guidance does not publish a universal recovery time or guarantee a particular outcome, so avoid relying on unofficial promises about response speed.
In the ticket description, state that the passkey is unavailable and list the recovery steps you attempted. Also state whether the account email is inaccessible, the phone is unavailable, or both. This gives an agent the sequence of events without requiring you to disclose a secret credential.

Code rejected as incorrect
- Re-enter the newest code carefully. Watch for transposed digits, spaces, or an older message left open in another browser tab.
- If it still fails, request a new code and use only the latest one.
- Do not share the code with anyone, including someone claiming to be Starlink support.
Email code never appears
- Check spam, junk, quarantine and promotional folders.
- Search the mailbox for Starlink and for the address from which the message was sent.
- Verify that you can still sign in to the email account associated with Starlink.
- Request another code after confirming the address.
Use SMS when email is inaccessible
If you cannot access the account email, choose SMS when Starlink offers that option and the phone number on file is a mobile number that can receive texts. This is not available for a landline. If both email and SMS fail, Starlink instructs customers to contact support by another route.
These code instructions do not prove that Starlink can bypass a passkey. They apply only to the two-step verification code process described in Starlink’s help material.
Fix app, browser and network problems before requesting another code
A recovery message or code can fail to arrive because the Starlink app, browser or network is interfering with the request. Starlink’s troubleshooting guidance lists the following checks.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Update the Starlink app
Install the latest version available for your device before retrying sign-in or recovery. An outdated app can show an older sign-in flow or fail to complete a verification request.
Use a supported, default browser
If recovery opens in a browser, try a browser supported by Starlink and make it the device’s default temporarily. If a link opens inside an embedded in-app browser and behaves unexpectedly, open it in the full browser instead.
Turn off a VPN during the request
Disable a VPN before requesting a verification code or reset email, then retry. A VPN can change the apparent network location or interrupt the request. Re-enable it after the recovery step if you normally use one.
Check JavaScript and cookies
Starlink’s browser troubleshooting calls for checking that JavaScript is enabled and that cookies are permitted. Privacy settings that block either can prevent the recovery form, assistant or reset page from completing. After changing a setting, reload the page and begin a fresh request rather than reusing a failed session.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Retry in a clean session
Use a private window or clear site data for the Starlink sign-in page if the page loops, displays a stale error, or keeps returning to the same passkey prompt. This does not remove a passkey from your device; it only tests whether cached browser data is causing the sign-in page to misbehave.

Common pitfalls that send recovery in circles
- Using a different email: A reachable inbox is not enough; it must be the account email on file.
- Trying a landline: The phone recovery route requires SMS, so a landline cannot complete it.
- Reusing an old code or link: Requesting a new message can make an earlier one unusable. Use the newest message.
- Assuming a password reset removes a passkey: Starlink does not document that result. Treat a continuing passkey prompt as a separate support question.
- Leaving a VPN or blocked cookies enabled: These settings can interfere with code requests, forms and assistant pages.
- Opening duplicate support cases: Keep the first ticket information and continue that case when possible.
Contact Starlink when self-service recovery fails
Starlink provides support through its app and website, including a route for people who cannot authenticate to their account. Use the unauthenticated request option when you cannot get past sign-in. Describe the exact point of failure: unavailable passkey, inaccessible email, unavailable phone, missing code, rejected code, or a browser error.
Support availability and telephone options differ by region. Do not rely on a phone number copied from another country’s instructions. Use the Starlink support page for your region to see the channels currently offered there. If the website route is inaccessible, try the Starlink app’s support area when you can open the app without completing account authentication.
Include enough information for an agent to identify the correct service account, but do not include passwords, passkeys, one-time codes or full payment-card details in a ticket. Keep copies of ticket numbers and replies so you can continue the same case rather than opening duplicate requests.

What Starlink’s published guidance does—and does not—say about passkeys
The available Starlink help pages document account recovery by email, account recovery by SMS, two-step verification-code troubleshooting, app and browser checks, and support escalation. They do not explain:
- whether Starlink offers a password sign-in alternative whenever a passkey is unavailable;
- how to remove, replace or disable a passkey;
- how a passkey interacts with the email or SMS password-reset flow;
- whether a particular phone, browser or operating-system setting is required for Starlink passkeys; or
- how Starlink handles a lost device that stored the passkey.
That is an information limit, not proof that Starlink has no passkey feature or no additional internal recovery process. Use the documented recovery methods first. If those methods do not restore access, ask Starlink support specifically how to proceed with the passkey prompt and provide the ticket with the recovery steps you already attempted.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical decision tree
- Can you open the Starlink account email? Use email recovery, follow the message titled “Reset Your Starlink Password,” and complete the reset.
- If not, can the mobile number on the account receive SMS? Use phone recovery and follow the SMS reset instructions. A landline will not work for this route.
- If neither channel works, can you provide an alternate contact? Submit the locked-out recovery form, verify the alternate email and complete the support assistant flow to create a ticket.
- Is the immediate failure a temporary code? Request a fresh code, check spam, try SMS where available, and contact support through another route if both channels fail.
- Does the page or app fail before recovery completes? Update the app, use a supported/default browser, disable the VPN during the request, and verify JavaScript and cookies.
- Does Starlink still demand a passkey? Do not assume that deleting browser data or resetting a password removes it. Ask Starlink support for passkey-specific instructions because the published recovery pages do not define that procedure.
After you regain access
Confirm that you are in the intended Starlink account and that the service information shown matches your subscription. Check that the account email and phone number are still reachable, because they are the documented recovery channels. If you changed either contact method, update it through Starlink’s account controls so future recovery messages can reach you. Keep recovery codes private and do not disclose them to callers, texters or anyone claiming to be an agent.
If you recovered through a browser, sign out of shared or public devices and close private windows containing account information. Record which email or mobile number is currently attached to the account, without storing passwords or one-time codes in an unsafe place. If a passkey remains unavailable, leave the support ticket open until Starlink explains the supported next step rather than repeatedly changing account credentials.

Can I sign in to Starlink without my passkey?
Starlink’s published help pages do not describe a passkey-specific bypass. Use the documented email or SMS password-reset route first. If neither contact method is available or the passkey prompt remains, submit the locked-out recovery form or contact Starlink through its regional support channels.

Does resetting my Starlink password remove the passkey requirement?
Starlink states that completing an email or SMS password reset automatically signs you in, but its guidance does not say whether that reset removes, replaces or disables a passkey. Do not assume it does.
What if I cannot access the email on my Starlink account?
Use phone recovery if the mobile number on the account can receive SMS. A landline cannot use this option. If SMS is also unavailable, use Starlink’s locked-out recovery form with an alternate contact method.
Why am I not receiving the Starlink reset email or verification code?
Confirm that you entered the account email, check spam, junk, quarantine and promotional folders, search for Starlink, and request a fresh message. If the email account is inaccessible, try SMS when the registered number is a mobile number.
Can I use a landline for Starlink SMS recovery?
No. The documented phone route requires SMS to the mobile number stored on the account.
What should I do if my Starlink verification code is rejected?
Enter the newest code carefully, request another code if necessary, and use only the latest message. Never share the code with a caller or texter. If both email and SMS fail, contact support through another route.
How do I contact Starlink if I am locked out?
Use the locked-out recovery form, verify an alternate email and complete the support assistant flow to create a ticket. Starlink also offers support through its app and website, with channel availability varying by region.
Should I disable my VPN while recovering my account?
Yes, Starlink’s troubleshooting guidance recommends turning off a VPN before requesting a code or reset email. Also use a supported browser and check that JavaScript and cookies are enabled.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The Bottom Line
Start with Starlink’s account-recovery page: use the account email, or the mobile number on file by SMS. If neither is available, submit the locked-out recovery form and create a support ticket. Starlink does not publish a passkey-specific bypass, so ask support for that step rather than assuming a password reset or browser cleanup will remove the passkey prompt.
