To sign in to or sign out of an account in Windows 11 Widgets, use the account controls in the Discover dashboard. This is separate from signing out of Windows, which closes your Windows session and open apps.
Sign out of the Discover dashboard
- Open Widgets by selecting the Widgets area on the taskbar or pressing Windows key + W.
- Select Discover in the navigation bar.
- Select the user account button, then choose Manage accounts.
- Select More profile settings, then choose Sign out.
These are Microsoft’s documented steps for signing out of Discover, not for signing out of your Windows user session. Microsoft’s Widgets support page describes this account flow. The interface labels may change, and the instructions do not identify a specific Windows build or Widgets version.
Sign in to Discover with another Microsoft account
Open the user account menu in Discover and select Manage accounts to use another Microsoft account in the dashboard. Microsoft’s instructions do not say that this changes the account signed in to Windows.

Understand the difference between dashboard and Windows sign-out
Signing out of Discover affects the dashboard account flow. Signing out of Windows ends the current Windows session and closes open applications, so save your work first. Use the Windows account controls only if you intend to end the device session; that is not required to sign out of Discover. See Microsoft’s Windows account-access guidance.
Manage Widgets privacy and personalization
- Microsoft directs users to the Microsoft privacy dashboard to access and manage Microsoft-account data used to personalize the Widgets board.
- Windows diagnostic data associated with Widgets is governed by the diagnostic-data settings selected in Windows Settings.
- Individual widgets and dashboards may use separate apps or services. Those services may collect data, and their own settings govern their privacy behavior.
Signing out of Discover should not be assumed to delete account data, clear every personalization setting, or change the account used to sign in to Windows.

If Widgets or Discover is not working
Microsoft says the latest Windows Web Experience Pack and Start Experiences App updates are needed for Widgets and that they should update automatically. Its guidance does not provide a specific troubleshooting sequence for a missing sign-out option.
