If your LG TV speaks menu items, volume changes, or channel changes, turn off Audio Guidance: press Settings on the remote, then go to All Settings → General → Accessibility → Audio Guidance and switch it off. If the voice describes scenes during a program, disable Audio Description or Video Description instead.
First, identify which voice you hear
LG TVs have separate accessibility features for menu narration and program narration. The timing of the voice points to the setting to change.
| When the voice speaks | Likely feature | Where to turn it off |
|---|---|---|
| It reads menus, device statuses, volume changes, or channel changes. | Audio Guidance | LG TV settings: General or Accessibility → Audio Guidance → Off. LG’s Audio Guidance instructions |
| It describes people, action, or other visual details while a show or movie is playing. | Audio Description or Video Description | Check the TV’s Accessibility settings; if narration continues, check the app or connected device playing the program. LG’s Video Description instructions |
Turn off Audio Guidance for menus and TV operations
On most newer LG TVs, use the remote to open Settings → All Settings → General → Accessibility → Audio Guidance, then set Audio Guidance to Off. LG lists this path for webOS 6.0 through webOS 22 and webOS 23 or later. LG’s Audio Guidance guide has instructions for these versions.
On TVs earlier than webOS 5.0, the path is typically Settings → All Settings → Accessibility → Audio Guidance → Off; the General submenu may not appear. Menu names and layout vary by model, so use the closest matching option if your screen differs.

Use the mute-button shortcut
LG says holding the remote’s Mute button can open Accessibility, where you can switch off Audio Guidance. A long press of the Magic Remote’s mute button can also activate Audio Guidance, which may explain why the TV started speaking unexpectedly. LG’s shortcut guidance explains the mute-button behavior.
Turn off narration describing a show or movie
If the voice describes visual events during a program rather than reading menus, look in Settings → All Settings → General → Accessibility on newer TVs for Audio Description or Video Description. On older models, look under Settings → All Settings → Accessibility. Turn the description setting off if it is enabled. LG’s labels and menu placement can vary by model. LG’s Video Description help page and Audio Description instructions provide additional guidance.

If the voice continues after changing the TV setting
Program narration may be controlled by the source of the video rather than the television. Check the accessibility or audio settings in the streaming app, set-top box, or other device connected to the TV. LG also advises checking the connected set-top box or app when narration remains after changing the TV’s description setting.
