For a few nearby photos, use the sharing feature already on your phone: Quick Share on Android or AirDrop on Apple devices. If you’re moving from Android to iPhone or the other way around, Quick Share and AirDrop can work together on selected Android models. For a whole photo library during a phone switch, use the setup migration process instead.
Choose the right method for the job
- A few photos between nearby Android phones: Quick Share.
- A few photos between nearby Apple devices: AirDrop.
- Photos between Android and Apple devices: Quick Share and AirDrop interoperability, if the Android model supports it.
- A full library while replacing an iPhone with an Android phone: Android Switch, where supported.
Nearby sharing is intended for selected items and avoids sending them through a messaging app. Avoid assuming that every method preserves every metadata field or handles every file format identically; that can depend on the devices and sharing route.
Send photos between Android phones with Quick Share
- On the Android phone with the photos, select the pictures in your Photos or gallery app and tap Share.
- Choose Quick Share, then select the nearby recipient device.
- Have the recipient accept the transfer if prompted. A transfer between your own devices using the same Google Account may be accepted automatically.
Quick Share is Google’s built-in option for nearby sharing on supported Android devices. See Google’s Quick Share instructions for device-specific guidance.
Share between Android and iPhone, iPad, or Mac
Quick Share can interoperate with AirDrop on selected Android devices. Compatibility is model-specific and may change as support rolls out; check Google’s current supported-device guidance before relying on the feature.

- Toggle Airplane mode, then try again. Restarting the devices can also help.
Use the QR-code fallback if direct sharing is unavailable
If the Android and Apple devices are not compatible for nearby interoperability, Quick Share can offer a QR-code route. The recipient scans the code, opens a download page in a browser, and saves the files. This method requires internet access on both devices; Google says files are end-to-end encrypted, hosted on its servers, and available to download for 24 hours. Google documents a limit of 10 GB and 1,000 files per share session. Mobile-data charges may apply.
Move a photo library when switching phones
If you’re replacing an iPhone with an Android phone, Android Switch can transfer photos as part of the phone migration on select devices, wirelessly or by cable. It is designed for setting up a new phone, rather than sending just a few pictures. Cable availability and support depend on the phones. Check Android’s switch-to-Android guide for the supported process; if using a cable, confirm both phones’ ports and migration compatibility first.

Pick based on privacy, connectivity, and quantity
- Recipient control: Nearby transfers can require the recipient to accept, and they can decline. For Android-to-Apple sharing, AirDrop visibility is temporarily set to Everyone for 10 minutes.
- Internet: The QR-code fallback explicitly needs internet and temporarily hosts the encrypted files for download. Do not assume this online fallback behaves like a direct nearby transfer.
- Quantity: Nearby sharing suits a selection of pictures; phone migration is the better fit when moving a larger collection as part of a device change.
- Compatibility: Confirm the precise Android model and receiver settings, especially for cross-platform sharing, rather than relying on brand or operating-system family alone.
Google said on November 20, 2025, that Quick Share and AirDrop interoperability began rolling out to the Pixel 10 family. Google described the feature as responding to requests for a simpler way to share files between devices. See the Android announcement.
