To let someone play music through a speaker already connected to your Galaxy phone, use Music Share. To send them an actual song or recording file, use Quick Share or another file-sharing method. These features solve different problems, so choose the method based on whether you want to share playback, transfer a file, or change where your phone plays audio.

Choose the right way to share music

Your goal Use What happens What you need to know
Let someone play music through an audio device connected to your Galaxy phone Music Share The other person connects to the Bluetooth audio device through your phone and plays music from their own phone. Both phones need to support Music Share; Samsung’s current instructions call for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both.
Send a stored song, voice memo, or other audio file Quick Share or another file-sharing option The recipient receives a copy of the file. Available sharing methods depend on the device, software, and file.
Change your phone’s audio output or play audio on multiple outputs Media output or Dual audio You select where your own phone’s sound plays. This routes audio; it does not send a music file to another person.

Share playback with Music Share

Music Share is designed for a host Galaxy phone that is already connected to a Bluetooth audio device, such as a speaker. Samsung describes the feature in its U.S. Music Share instructions as a way to let another compatible Galaxy phone use that connected device. The other person plays music on their own phone; Music Share does not transfer the song file.

Set up the host phone

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the host Galaxy phone.
  2. Pair the Bluetooth speaker or other audio device with the host phone and confirm it is connected.
  3. Open Quick Settings by swiping down from the top of the screen. If Music Share is not visible, swipe again to expand the panel and look for it among the available buttons.
  4. Tap Music Share to turn it on. Depending on the model and software, you may also find it under Settings > Connected devices > Music Share, as shown in Samsung India’s instructions.

Connect the guest phone

  1. On the guest Galaxy phone, turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, then enable Music Share if it is available.
  2. Open the guest phone’s Bluetooth device scan.
  3. Find and select the audio device that is connected to the host phone.
  4. If a permission or connection request appears on either phone, approve it.
  5. Once connected, play music from the guest phone. The audio plays through the shared device while the host phone remains connected to it.

The exact button names, setting location, and availability vary by Galaxy model, region, and software version. If Music Share is missing, consult support for your specific model; the feature requires compatible devices.

Share a music or recording file instead

If the recipient needs their own copy of a locally stored audio file, use a file-sharing feature rather than Music Share. Samsung distinguishes Music Share from Quick Share in its Galaxy S20 share-features guide: Quick Share is for sending content such as images, videos, and files.

Its instructions are dated November 15, 2023, so the exact menu path may differ on current phones. See Samsung’s recording-file sharing guidance for that model-dependent context.

Listen through two pairs of Galaxy Buds

Samsung documents a separate Music Share workflow for listening with a friend’s Galaxy Buds. In the 2024 Galaxy Z Flip6 user manual, the owner connects their phone to their Buds, while the friend connects their own phone to theirs.

Change or share your phone’s audio output

For routing audio from one phone, open the Media panel and select an available output. Samsung’s Media and Devices instructions cover output switching and Dual audio on Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 10 or later. Dual audio can play sound through multiple connected Bluetooth devices; it is distinct from Music Share because it manages outputs for the phone rather than giving another person access to a host-connected device.

  • Check both wireless connections: Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on both phones.
  • Check the host connection: Confirm the speaker or audio device is paired to and connected with the host phone before the guest scans for it.
  • Check both phones’ support: Music Share is not available on every Galaxy model or software version. A missing setting may indicate that the device does not support the feature.
  • Look in both places: Check Quick Settings and, where available, Settings > Connected devices > Music Share.
  • Approve the request: The guest or host may need to accept an on-screen prompt before playback works.
  • Use the right feature: If your goal is to send a stored recording, use file sharing; Music Share is for playback through a connected audio device.
