You can check your UPI limits and manage payment permissions in your UPI app, but there is no universal setting or menu path. Limits depend on NPCI ceilings, your bank’s own restrictions, and whether your account and payment category are eligible. To manage permissions, treat linked bank accounts, recurring AutoPay mandates, and delegated payments as separate controls.
How UPI transaction limits work
A limit shown in your app may be lower than the maximum allowed for a payment category. NPCI sets category-level ceilings; banks can apply lower internal limits within those ceilings, and eligibility can depend on the account, merchant, and transaction type.
| Payment type | NPCI ceiling described in the cited source | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Normal UPI transfer | Up to ₹1 lakh per transaction, according to NPCI’s FAQ; the page does not state a publication date. | This is a ceiling, not a promise that your bank or account will permit that amount. |
| Capital markets, collections, insurance, and foreign inward remittances | Up to ₹2 lakh per transaction, according to NPCI’s FAQ; the page does not state a publication date. | Confirm the category and eligibility with your bank and the relevant app. |
| IPO and Retail Direct Scheme | Up to ₹5 lakh per transaction, according to NPCI’s FAQ; the page does not state a publication date. | This applies to the named categories, not ordinary transfers. |
| Tax-payment-aligned categories | Up to ₹5 lakh per transaction for verified merchants, under NPCI’s circular dated 28 August 2025. | Banks retain discretion to set internal limits within NPCI ceilings. NPCI says P2P limits continue under extant guidelines. |
For the general ceiling and category details, see NPCI’s UPI FAQ. The tax-category implementation and bank discretion are set out in NPCI’s 28 August 2025 circular. The Reserve Bank of India’s 8 August 2024 policy announcement described raising tax-payment limits from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh per transaction and proposed delegated payments; consult NPCI’s later circular for the implementation detail.
How do I change my UPI limit?
First identify which limit you mean. A category ceiling is set by NPCI; an individual bank may impose a lower internal limit; and an app may show what is currently available for your account or transaction. The sourced guidance does not establish that every user can manually raise a personal limit in an app.
#1 Best Overall
- It not only supports Mifare cards and Class A and B cards conforming to the ISO 14443 standard, but also supports NFC and FeliCa contactless technology.
- This is a USB hot-pluggable device that complies with the CCID standard and is ideal for applications such as personal identity security authentication and online micropayments.
- This is a USB full-speed device (12 Mbps), which reads NFC tags at 106 kbps、212 Kbps and 242 Kbps, allowing faster read and write speeds and higher efficiency
- To increase the safety factor, you can choose to configure an ISO7816-3 compliant SAM card slot in the ACR122.
- Widely used in areas such as access control, electronic payment, bus e-ticketing, highway toll collection systems, network verification, logistics, and supply chain management.
- Check the transaction category. Confirm whether the payment is a normal transfer or belongs to a category with a higher ceiling, such as an eligible tax payment or IPO transaction.
- Open your UPI app’s payment or bank-account management controls. Look for limit information associated with the linked account or payment type. Labels and controls vary by app, so there is no single verified sequence of menu taps.
- Check your bank’s official app, help pages, or support. Ask whether it applies an internal cap or account restriction and whether that restriction can be changed. A bank’s limit can be lower than the applicable NPCI ceiling.
- Confirm eligibility before retrying. For a higher-category ceiling, check that the merchant and transaction qualify. Do not assume that changing a setting will make an ineligible payment possible.
How can I stop UPI payments from my account?
Choose the control that matches the permission you want to stop. Removing an app’s link to a bank account, cancelling a recurring mandate, and ending another person’s delegated authority are different actions; one does not necessarily cancel the others.
| Permission | What it controls | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Linked bank account | The app’s link to an account used for UPI payments. | The UPI app’s bank-account management area. Ask your bank about bank-level restrictions or account concerns. |
| AutoPay mandate | A recurring authorization for scheduled payments. | A Manage Bank accounts area or a dedicated UPI AutoPay section, where supported. |
| Delegated payment | Authority for a secondary user to make payments under a primary user’s account and configured terms. | The app’s UPI Circle or delegated-payment controls, if available. |
Linked bank accounts
To inspect an account link, open your UPI app and find its bank-account management area. If the app offers removal, use its current instructions and verify what that action affects. The reviewed official materials do not confirm the same removal control in every app, nor do they establish a universal menu path. Removing an account from one app should not be treated as cancelling an AutoPay mandate or delegated permission unless the app or bank confirms that effect.

AutoPay mandates
AutoPay is a recurring permission, not simply a transaction limit. NPCI’s circular dated 7 October 2025 places mandate management in “Manage Bank accounts” or a dedicated “UPI Autopay” section. It lists viewing and porting active mandates, as well as revoking, pausing, and modifying them. Check the current labels and available actions in your participating app before relying on a change.

Delegated payments
Delegation gives another person authority to pay under terms set by the primary user; it is distinct from an ordinary UPI transaction ceiling. The RBI described the model as allowing a primary user to set a UPI transaction limit for a secondary user on the primary user’s bank account. The RBI’s 8 August 2024 announcement describes the policy proposal.
BHIM UPI Circle Full Delegation has feature-specific terms: NPCI BHIM Services Limited’s announcement dated 25 November 2025 says the primary user can set a monthly spending limit up to ₹15,000 and an expiry period up to five years. These are BHIM feature limits, not normal UPI ceilings and not terms that should be assumed for other apps. Check the app’s controls to review or end a delegation.

NPCI defines the UPI PIN as the passcode used to authorize bank transactions and warns users not to share it. If your phone is lost, contact your bank. Repeated incorrect PIN entries may temporarily block sending money, depending on the bank.
Quick Recap
- Never disclose your UPI PIN to another person.
- If your phone is lost, contact your bank promptly to report the risk and ask what account-protection steps it recommends.
- If sending money stops after incorrect PIN entries, check with your bank about its blocking and recovery process.
