To connect XREAL glasses directly, your phone, computer, or handheld must support video output over USB-C DisplayPort (DP)—a USB-C socket alone is not enough. If your device outputs only HDMI, you’ll need an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter compatible with your glasses. Switch setup can require a Hub, depending on the glasses model.

Check compatibility before you connect

First identify your exact XREAL glasses model and host device. For a direct USB-C connection, the device’s USB-C port must support DP video output. For XREAL One-series glasses, XREAL’s connection instructions also specify 5V/1A power. If you cannot confirm the port’s capabilities, check the device maker’s specifications or ask its support team. XREAL’s One Series connection guide and device connection guide for xbxa01 glasses cover their respective models.

A USB-C cable can fit the port and still fail to carry a picture. Use the supplied cable or a replacement that is full-featured and supports DP video transmission. Charge-only cables will not work for video.

Choose the connection path for your device

Host device and output Typical connection path Key check
Phone with USB-C DP video output Glasses to phone using the supplied USB-C cable Confirm video output for the exact phone model.
Laptop or handheld with USB-C DP video output Glasses to device using the supplied USB-C cable Confirm the specific USB-C port supports DP video.
Computer or console with HDMI output only Compatible HDMI-to-USB-C adapter Check adapter compatibility and its power requirements for your glasses.
Nintendo Switch family Use the accessory path specified for your glasses and Switch model; One-series instructions specify the XREAL Hub. Check the matching model guide before buying an accessory.

The correct path depends on the host’s video output, your glasses generation, whether you need simultaneous charging, and the display features you want. XREAL lists phones, tablets, computers, handhelds, and consoles among possible devices, but that does not mean every model connects the same way.

Set up a phone

  1. Confirm that your exact phone model supports video output over USB-C. XREAL lists examples including later USB-C iPhones and selected Galaxy and Android models, but those examples do not guarantee compatibility for every device or software version.
  2. Plug the angled end of the supplied USB-C cable into the glasses and the other end into the phone’s USB-C port.
  3. If there is no image, check the phone’s video-output specifications and confirm that the cable supports DP video.

Set up a laptop or computer

Computer with USB-C DP video

  1. Confirm that the USB-C port you plan to use supports DP video output.
  2. Connect the glasses to that port with the supplied cable.
  3. If you want UltraWide Mode on a computer, set the glasses as an extended display. Mirroring may preserve the main screen’s aspect ratio rather than produce the intended ultra-wide image. Follow the device-specific steps in XREAL’s UltraWide Mode guide.

Computer with HDMI output only

Use an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter intended to work with your XREAL glasses. Before connecting or purchasing one, verify that it supports the required video path and meets the power requirements of your glasses. Do not assume that any adapter with HDMI and USB-C connectors will work.

Set up a handheld gaming device

XREAL lists Steam Deck, Steam Deck OLED, and ROG handhelds as direct-connection examples, subject to USB-C DP video output. Connect the glasses with the supplied cable after confirming the capability of the relevant port. Available features and refresh behavior can depend on the host and its software version.

Experience richer depth and lifelike visuals across everything you watch or play, supported at up to 30fps with just 90–100ms latency for smooth, natural viewing.

Set up a Nintendo Switch

Do not treat Switch like a DP-capable handheld: use the connection instructions for your exact glasses generation and Switch revision. XREAL’s One Series instructions specify the XREAL Hub for Switch, Switch 2, and Switch OLED. XREAL also documents a hub-based connection in its guide for other glasses. Accessory requirements can vary, so check the guide for your glasses model before buying a Hub or another accessory.

Set up a PlayStation, Xbox, or HDMI-only device

For a console or computer that provides HDMI output but not USB-C DP video, follow the HDMI-to-USB-C adapter path documented for your glasses model. Confirm both video compatibility and power requirements for the specific adapter. A generic adapter is not guaranteed to work.

Understand power and display features

Power and charging

XREAL glasses have no built-in battery; they receive power from the connected device. XREAL recommends the Hub for simultaneous charging in certain configurations. Check the instructions for your glasses and host to see whether your setup supports that arrangement.

UltraWide Mode

UltraWide availability depends on the host. In the cited One-series feature information, XREAL lists support for some computers, tablets, handhelds, and Android desktop modes, but not iPhone, standard Android, Switch, Xbox, or PlayStation. These distinctions apply to the cited One-series guidance, not necessarily every XREAL model or future software version. On a computer, use an extended display for the intended UltraWide effect.

Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect image

  • No image over USB-C: Confirm that the specific host port supports DP video output. A USB-C charging port is not sufficient.
  • No image with a replacement cable: Try the supplied cable or a full-featured USB-C cable that supports DP video.
  • No image from an HDMI device: Check that the adapter is compatible with your glasses and connected as its instructions require, including any power connection.
  • Switch does not display: Check whether your glasses and Switch combination requires the XREAL Hub or another specified accessory.
  • UltraWide looks like a normal mirrored screen: Set the glasses as an extended display and check that the host can output the selected aspect ratio.
  • You need to keep the host charging: Check the supported Hub configuration for your glasses and device; the glasses themselves do not have a battery.
