For most shots, start in the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s standard Camera app with Photo mode and let the camera choose its settings. Switch to Portrait for a background effect, Night for dim scenes, or Expert RAW when you want manual controls and plan to edit the files. Clean lenses and a steady grip often matter more than choosing a higher megapixel setting.
Choose the right camera mode for the shot

Set up everyday photos
Open the Camera app and use Photo mode as your routine default. Frame the subject, choose the lens or zoom option that gives you the composition you want, and check that the subject is in focus before taking the picture.
The S25 Ultra’s rear cameras are listed by Samsung as a 200MP wide camera, 50MP ultra-wide, 10MP 3x telephoto, and 50MP 5x telephoto. These are hardware specifications, not a promise that selecting the highest resolution or zoom level will produce a better image in every scene. Choose Portrait when you want the camera to add and adjust a background effect. Before capturing, inspect the preview around the subject’s outline, especially where hair, clothing, or other fine edges meet the background. Samsung describes the effect but does not guarantee identical results for every subject or scene.

Capture dim scenes with Night mode
In low light, select Night if it appears in the camera interface, then keep the phone still through the exposure. Samsung says Night mode detects lighting and adjusts exposure and white balance automatically. A tripod or stable phone mount can help hold the phone steady, but it is optional.
If Night mode is not visible, the available controls and screen layout may differ with software version, carrier, region, or current camera mode. Samsung cautions that screens and settings can vary. Its UK guide says, “Pro mode gives you manual control over your camera settings, allowing you to take your picture in exactly the way you want.” Samsung UK camera-mode guide

Use Expert RAW when you plan to edit
- Open Camera > More > Expert RAW.
- If prompted, download Expert RAW separately; Samsung’s S25-series guide demonstrates this download step.
- Set controls such as ISO, shutter speed, focus, white balance, and exposure for the scene rather than relying on one fixed recipe.
- Capture and edit the resulting files if you want to use the additional latitude of RAW. Samsung describes Expert RAW output as JPEG plus 16-bit Linear DNG RAW files.
Expert RAW is a more deliberate workflow than ordinary Photo mode: the manual settings need scene-specific choices, and RAW files are intended for later editing. Samsung’s S25 Ultra product information also highlights creative Expert RAW tools such as Virtual Aperture, an ND filter, and multiple exposure. Fix blurry, hazy, or unexpectedly dark results
Blurry or hazy photos
- Clean the camera glass before changing settings.
- Change your angle or move away from strong light sources that may cause haze or glare.
- For a close subject, avoid using the 5x telephoto camera too near it: Samsung lists a 30 cm minimum shooting distance for the S25 Ultra’s 5x telephoto. Move farther back or switch to another camera.

Preview looks darker than expected
Where available, check Camera Assistant’s Advanced Photo mode controls. Samsung says limits on shutter speed and ISO can constrain the preview to reduce blur and noise. Turning those limits off may brighten the preview, but it can also change the blur-and-noise tradeoff. Camera Assistant availability depends on whether Good Lock is supported in your country.

Camera labels, screens, and feature availability can vary by software version, carrier, and region. Camera Assistant is not available everywhere, and Samsung’s support instructions may show a different layout from the one on your phone. Use the mode names and controls that appear in your installed Camera app rather than assuming every device has the same screen.
