For the best picture, first confirm the throw distance for your market’s PK52, then center and level the projector, set a 16:9 image to fit your wall, and use optical zoom before digital keystone correction. There is a significant discrepancy in Optoma’s published placement information: its Australia specifications give a conventional throw ratio, while the Photon series page advertises a 100-inch image from less than 25 cm. Use the manual supplied with your unit before choosing a permanent position.
Confirm the PK52’s placement specifications before arranging the room
Optoma Australia lists the Photon Beam PK52 with a 1.21:1–1.59:1 throw ratio, a 1.3x manual zoom, and a projection distance of 1–8 m. Optoma’s distance calculator measures from the front and center of the lens to the projection surface, not from the back of the projector. Its results are estimates, so verify the projected image in the room before drilling or fixing a mount.
Those regional specifications do not match Optoma’s Photon series page, which promotes a 100-inch picture from less than 25 cm and describes the lens as ultra-short-throw. The claims imply very different layouts. For provisional planning, use the technical specifications for the market where you bought the projector, and check the unit’s manual rather than assuming the series-page placement claim applies to it.

Choose an image size that fits the wall and seating
Optoma Australia lists a native 16:9 aspect ratio and a diagonal image range of 28–300 inches. Treat those as the manufacturer’s stated limits, not as a recommendation to use the largest size. Choose a size that fits the usable wall or screen and suits the distance between the screen and your seats; the published specifications do not establish one ideal living-room size.
Measure the screen area first, then use Optoma’s calculator with the intended image size to estimate the lens-to-screen distance. Keep the lens measurement in mind when checking the room, and test the image before committing to a fixed installation.

Position the projector square and level, then refine with zoom
- Place it centrally. Align the projector with the center of the screen and point it straight at the surface. Avoid placing it off to one side or aiming it sharply up or down if you can adjust the physical position instead.
- Set the image size with the manual zoom. The regional specification lists 1.3x manual zoom. Use it to refine the picture size after establishing a suitable distance; do not assume zoom can compensate for a room position outside the stated range.
- Use keystone correction only for residual alignment. Optoma Australia lists automatic vertical keystone and ±30° correction. Physical alignment is the better starting point for preserving a regular image shape; use the correction available on your unit only when positioning cannot eliminate the remaining skew.
Exact controls and menu labels can vary by market or unit. Consult the manual supplied with the PK52 for the relevant adjustment instructions rather than relying on an assumed menu path.

The Australia specifications list two HDMI 2.0 inputs, with one supporting ARC out, plus a 3.5 mm audio output and a 12 V trigger. Connect a video source by HDMI. If you want audio return over ARC, use the identified HDMI port and check that your receiver or soundbar supports the ARC connection you need. The listed ports do not establish that the projector includes streaming apps or supports any particular streaming service.

Adjust picture settings by viewing conditions, not guessed numbers
Optoma advertises HDR10+ and PureMotion on its Photon series page. The Australia product page confirms HDR support and refers to PureEngine, but the cited product information does not establish exact menu names or best numerical settings for a living room. Try the picture modes and HDR controls available on your unit, and use its market-specific manual for the actual labels.
Ambient light and the content you watch affect what looks comfortable, so compare available modes from your usual seat and under your normal room lighting. Optoma Australia lists 3,500 lumens and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio; these are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of picture quality in a living room. An official European product result presents brightness using ISO 21118 and gives a different contrast figure, so figures from different regional pages should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
