For the US Ninja Luxe Café Pro (model ES701), the simplest way to get a first espresso is to follow the machine’s first-use prompts, accept Barista Assist’s grind recommendation, and taste the result before changing anything. There is no single grind number, dose, ratio, or shot time that is established as a universal target for every bean and machine.
Confirm the model and check the box
Ninja’s US product listing identifies the Luxe Café Pro as model ES701. Check the model label and the guide supplied with your machine rather than assuming that every Luxe Café version has the same parts or controls. Regional models and package contents may differ.
The US listing includes a portafilter, single, double and Luxe baskets, an XL milk jug, a cleaning brush, a cleaning disc, descaling powder, cleaning tablets and a hard-water test kit. Check the actual box and the local-market product listing against that inventory.
The ES701 is listed with espresso, drip coffee, cold brew and separate hot-water functions, plus an integrated conical burr grinder with 25 settings, weight-based dosing, Barista Assist recommendations and monitoring, and an integrated tamper. These are product features, not instructions to choose a particular grind or dose.

Set up the water system using the ES701 guide
Fit the removable parts, fill and seat the water reservoir, plug in the machine, and follow the display’s first-use prompts. Use the current ES701 guide for your region for the exact priming steps and any water-hardness selection; do not rely on instructions for a different Luxe Café model. The official quick-start guidance is model-specific, but its complete button sequence is not established here.
If you see a “Rinse” message, consult the ES701 guide or the machine’s on-screen instructions to determine what the prompt requires before continuing.

Let Barista Assist guide your first grind
Put whole beans in the hopper, select the espresso option you want, and follow the displayed prompts and grind recommendation. Ninja describes the Pro as automatically recommending a grind size for the selected brew, while allowing the user to choose among its 25 settings. Treat the recommendation as a starting point for the beans in use, not a number guaranteed to suit every coffee.
The machine doses by weight and includes an integrated tamper. Follow the prompted grinding, dosing and tamping workflow rather than copying another owner’s settings or adding an unsupported dose or tamp-pressure target.

Prepare the basket and pull the shot
- Choose a basket: Select the supplied basket and serving option according to the descriptions on the machine and in your ES701 guide. Ninja names single, double and Luxe baskets, but the available product information does not establish their capacities.
- Prepare the portafilter: Handle and load it as directed in the guide. Keep loose grounds off the rim and locking area so the portafilter can seat as intended.
- Complete the prompted workflow: Let the machine finish grinding, dosing and tamping, then lock the portafilter into the brew position as shown in the guide.
- Start espresso: Select and start the espresso cycle shown on the machine. Follow any on-screen prompts through completion.
Rinsing the portafilter under hot water before grinding is an official troubleshooting suggestion for addressing slow or small flow when preheating is needed. It is a troubleshooting step, not a required first-use ritual.

Taste the shot before changing settings. If it seems weak, sharp, bitter or slow, check the ES701 guide’s model-specific troubleshooting advice, change one setting, and pull another shot to compare. Changing several controls at once makes it harder to tell which adjustment affected the result.

Neither the product listing nor the accessible official guidance establishes one universal espresso ratio, grind setting, dose or extraction time. Use Barista Assist’s recommendation and the manual for your machine; avoid treating a number from another owner as a manufacturer target. If you change beans or need to reset a recommendation, use the ES701 guide rather than importing steps from another Luxe Café model.
