Apple TV cannot run Apple Intelligence. Apple lists Apple TV among the devices that are not Apple Intelligence-capable, so there is no Apple Intelligence switch or setup process on the television. The feature you can configure on Apple TV is Siri.
On a supported Apple TV, open Settings > General > Siri, turn Siri on, select a language if necessary, and hold the Siri/Search button on the remote while you speak. Voice recognition, AirPods access and control from an iPhone or iPad are optional additions.
Apple Intelligence and Apple TV are different things
Apple Intelligence is Apple’s set of generative and system-intelligence features, but Apple TV is not an eligible device. Apple’s support guidance specifically places Apple TV with “other devices that are not Apple Intelligence-capable.” That means you cannot enable Apple Intelligence from tvOS settings, install it as an update, or use an Apple TV as the device that processes Apple Intelligence requests.

Siri can search for movies, television shows, podcasts and apps, and it can use voice recognition to provide more personalized recommendations and switch to the appropriate profile. Siri on Apple TV is therefore a voice-control feature, not evidence that Apple Intelligence is running on the television.

What you need before turning on Siri
Check these conditions before troubleshooting. They explain most failed setup attempts without requiring any additional software.
- A supported Apple TV model and a working Siri Remote or compatible remote with a Siri/Search button.
- An Apple Account configured on the Apple TV. Apple says Siri availability can depend on the account’s billing region as well as the device’s selected language and region.
- A language and country or region combination supported by Siri. Available commands, languages and content differ by location.
- For personalized voice recognition, an iPhone or iPad on which your voice has been set up, plus a profile on the Apple TV.
- For hands-free requests, compatible connected AirPods. AirPods are optional; the remote button remains the normal way to invoke Siri.
Menu wording can vary with the tvOS release and the language selected on the television. The paths below use Apple’s current Apple TV 4K guide labels.
How do I turn on Siri on Apple TV?
- From the Apple TV Home Screen, open Settings.
- Select General.
- Choose Siri.
- Turn Siri on.
- If the television asks for a language, select the language you intend to use for requests. The available list depends on your country or region.
The Siri pane also contains related controls. Depending on your model and tvOS version, you may see options for Siri and Dictation history, displaying spoken text, allowing Siri to perform on-screen actions and allowing Siri to access apps. These controls change how Siri behaves; they do not add Apple Intelligence to Apple TV.

Make your first request with the remote
- Point the remote toward the Apple TV and press and hold the Siri or Siri/Search button.
- While holding the button, speak a request in the selected Siri language.
- Release the button when you finish speaking.
Siri can search the Apple TV’s available movies, shows, podcasts and apps. The exact result set depends on the services, apps, language and region available on that Apple TV. Voice recognition can also associate a request with a person’s profile when that optional feature has been configured.
Set the correct language, country and region
If Siri is missing, refuses to activate or understands only some commands, check regional settings before resetting anything.
- Open Settings > General > Language and Region.
- Confirm that the selected language and country or region are the ones you actually use.
- Check that the Apple Account’s billing region is supported for Siri in that language and location.
- Return to Settings > General > Siri and check whether Siri can now be enabled.
Apple states that Siri’s availability and commands vary by language and country or region. A language may appear in the system while particular Siri commands or content integrations remain unavailable there. Not every feature or item of content is available in every country, region or Apple TV hardware configuration.

Personalize Siri with voice recognition
Voice recognition is optional. You can use the remote’s Siri button without it. When enabled, Apple TV can identify a participating person, use that person’s profile and provide more individualized recommendations or profile switching.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesPrepare voice recognition on an iPhone or iPad
First set up voice recognition for your own voice on an iPhone or iPad. The phone or tablet is used for the voice setup; the Apple TV then uses the resulting recognition profile. The precise screens can vary with the operating-system version and locale.
Enable recognition for an Apple TV profile
- On Apple TV, open Settings > Profiles and Accounts.
- Select the profile that should respond to your voice.
- Turn on Recognize My Voice.
- Repeat for other household profiles that have completed voice setup.
Apple documents support for up to six voice-recognition profiles. Recognition is not a requirement for Siri, and it does not turn Apple TV into an Apple Intelligence device. If the television does not identify a speaker reliably, turn recognition off for that profile and continue using the remote button manually.
Can I use AirPods to talk to Siri on Apple TV?
Yes, connected AirPods can provide an additional way to make Siri requests. This is an optional hands-free path and is separate from the Siri Remote.
- Connect the AirPods to Apple TV.
- Open Settings > General > Siri.
- Look for the AirPods listening option and enable it.
- If you use AirPods Pro (2nd generation or later), select the distinct Listen on AirPods control when it appears.
The exact control shown depends on the AirPods model and software. If the option is absent, verify that the AirPods are connected to the Apple TV and that the model supports the feature. You can still hold the Siri/Search button on the remote even when AirPods listening is unavailable.

Another arrangement is to speak to Siri on an iPhone or iPad and have that device control video playback on the television. This does not add Apple Intelligence to Apple TV; it uses the Apple device’s Siri and the television’s AirPlay and HomeKit connection.

- On Apple TV, open Settings > AirPlay and HomeKit.
- Add the Apple TV to a room in the Home setup.
- Make sure the iPhone or iPad and Apple TV are configured in the same Home environment.
- Use Siri on the iPhone or iPad to address the Apple TV or its room when requesting playback control.
The room assignment is the prerequisite Apple identifies for controlling video on the television from Siri on another Apple device. This route is useful when the remote is out of reach, but it is not a replacement for enabling Siri in Settings > General > Siri if you also want the Apple TV’s own remote-based voice search.
Which Siri method should you use?
| Method | What you need | Where it works | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Siri Remote button | A working remote with a Siri/Search button | Directly on Apple TV | Searching for shows, movies, podcasts and apps without configuring other devices |
| AirPods listening | Connected compatible AirPods; AirPods Pro (2nd generation or later) expose a specific “Listen on AirPods” control | Directly through the Apple TV and AirPods | Hands-free requests when the remote is inconvenient |
| Siri on iPhone or iPad | Apple TV added to a room under AirPlay and HomeKit | From the iPhone or iPad, controlling the television | Playback control from another Apple device |
| Voice recognition | Voice setup on an iPhone or iPad and an Apple TV profile with recognition enabled | Within Apple TV profiles | Personalized recommendations and profile switching |
These methods can coexist. Voice recognition and AirPods enhance Siri but are not prerequisites for the remote button, while iPhone or iPad control is a separate Home and AirPlay arrangement.
Why can’t I turn on Siri on my Apple TV?
The Siri switch is unavailable or does nothing
Open Settings > General > Language and Region and verify the language, country or region and Apple Account billing region. Apple ties Siri availability to those values, and supported commands differ across locations. After correcting them, return to Settings > General > Siri.
Siri appears to speak setting names or icons
Check whether VoiceOver is enabled. VoiceOver is an accessibility feature that reads interface elements aloud; it is not Siri. Disable VoiceOver through the Apple TV accessibility controls if it was enabled accidentally, then test the Siri button again.
The remote does not start listening
- Press and hold the Siri/Search button rather than tapping it briefly.
- Speak while the button is held and release it after finishing.
- Confirm that the remote is paired and has charge.
- If the remote is missing or faulty, use a compatible replacement Siri Remote. Buying a replacement is only a remedy for a hardware problem; it is not required when the supplied remote works.
Siri understands the words but returns no useful result
Try a request that matches the Apple TV’s available content, such as a movie, show, podcast or app search. Results and commands vary by language, country or region, app availability and Apple TV hardware. A command documented for one location may not be offered in another.
AirPods do not appear as a listening option
Reconnect the AirPods to Apple TV, then revisit Settings > General > Siri. The dedicated Listen on AirPods control is associated with AirPods Pro (2nd generation or later); other models may expose different controls or none at all.

Voice recognition chooses the wrong profile
Confirm that the person completed voice setup on an iPhone or iPad and that Recognize My Voice is enabled for the intended Apple TV profile under Settings > Profiles and Accounts. If recognition remains unreliable, disable it for that profile and use the remote without recognition.
Privacy and behavior controls in Siri settings
The Siri settings page is not limited to the on/off switch. Apple’s Apple TV guide documents controls related to Siri and Dictation history, displaying speech, on-screen actions and app access. Review these options if Siri behaves differently from what you expect.
- Siri and Dictation history: review the available history control and choose the option that matches your privacy preference.
- Speech display: decide whether spoken requests or responses are shown on screen.
- On-screen actions: control whether Siri can perform supported actions in the interface.
- App access: control whether Siri can use apps when handling requests.
Labels and availability can change with tvOS and the selected locale. These settings govern Siri’s operation and display; none of them enables Apple Intelligence.
What Apple TV still cannot do
There is no Apple Intelligence setup path on Apple TV, and Siri on Apple TV should not be described as Apple Intelligence. Apple’s device-eligibility guidance excludes Apple TV. If you want Apple Intelligence features, use an eligible iPhone, iPad or Mac and follow the setup options provided on that device.
Apple also cautions that features and content are not universal across countries, regions or Apple TV hardware. A successful Siri setup therefore means that Siri is enabled for the selected language and region on that particular Apple TV; it does not guarantee every command, app integration or content result shown in another market.
Quick Recap
A practical setup checklist
- Confirm that your goal is Siri, because Apple Intelligence is not supported on Apple TV.
- Open Settings > General > Siri and turn Siri on.
- Select a supported Siri language.
- Test the remote by holding the Siri/Search button, speaking and releasing it.
- If activation fails, verify Settings > General > Language and Region and the Apple Account billing region.
- For personalization, configure voice recognition on an iPhone or iPad and enable Recognize My Voice for an Apple TV profile.
- For hands-free use, connect compatible AirPods and check the AirPods listening control in Siri settings.
- For iPhone or iPad playback control, add Apple TV to a room under Settings > AirPlay and HomeKit.
- If spoken interface labels are read aloud, check VoiceOver before diagnosing Siri.
- Remember that available commands and content depend on language, country or region, apps and Apple TV hardware.
