To use different iPhone Home Screen layouts for different activities, create separate pages of apps and widgets, then link a page to a Focus. When that Focus is active, iPhone can show its selected page. To change only how a screen looks, use the built-in icon, widget, and wallpaper controls instead.
Choose between separate layouts and visual customization
These are two different kinds of customization. Separate pages change which group of apps and widgets is visible; appearance controls change how icons or wallpaper look. A Focus can switch to a chosen Home Screen page, but Apple’s documentation does not describe this as a separate user profile or a separate installation of apps and data.

| Approach | Best for | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Separate pages linked to Focus | Showing different app and widget groups for activities such as work and personal time | The visible Home Screen page when the selected Focus is on |
| Icon, widget, or wallpaper customization | Changing the screen’s appearance or adding at-a-glance information | Visual style, wallpaper, or widget content; it does not require a Focus switch |
Create separate Home Screen pages
- Decide what belongs on each page. For example, group work apps and widgets on one page and personal apps on another.
- Enter Home Screen edit mode. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons jiggle.
- Move apps and widgets. Drag an item to the edge of the screen and pause to move it to another page. If the destination page is not visible yet, continue dragging to the edge and wait for the page to appear.
- Finish editing. Tap the Home Screen background or press the Home button, if your iPhone has one.
For Apple’s instructions on arranging items, see Organize the Home Screen on iPhone.

Link a page to a Focus
- Open Settings > Focus.
- Choose an existing Focus, such as Work or Personal, or create a custom Focus.
- In that Focus’s settings, choose the customized Home Screen page to show while the Focus is on.
- If you want the Focus to switch on automatically, set a schedule. Apple documents scheduling by time, location, or app.
- Turn on the Focus and check that the intended page appears.
Apple describes this option as choosing a customized Home Screen page to switch to while a Focus is on. See Set up a Focus on iPhone. The exact Focus labels and options may vary with iOS updates.

Change icons, add widgets, or set a Home Screen wallpaper
Choose an icon appearance
Touch and hold the Home Screen background until icons jiggle, tap Edit, then Customize. Apple documents Light, Dark, Clear, Tinted, and automatic appearance options. Choosing large icons hides app names. See Apple’s Customize app icons and widgets on iPhone.
Add a widget
Touch and hold the Home Screen background, tap Edit, then Add Widget. Choose a widget and add it to the page. Available widgets, options, and sizes depend on the app. Apple’s Add, edit, and remove widgets on iPhone covers widget controls.

Set the Home Screen wallpaper
Open Settings > Wallpaper, add or choose a wallpaper, then select Customize Home Screen. Apple documents using a color or photo and blurring the Home Screen wallpaper. Focus-linked wallpaper changes are also available, though the relationship depends on the wallpaper and Lock Screen setup. See Change the wallpaper on iPhone.
Hide, reorder, or remove pages
- Touch and hold an empty Home Screen area until icons jiggle.
- Tap the page dots.
- To hide a page, clear the circle beneath it. To change page order, touch and drag a page to a new position.
- To remove a page, use the page controls. Apps from a removed page remain in the App Library.
You can choose where new downloads go in Settings > Home Screen & App Library. Apple’s guide, Organize the Home Screen and App Library on your iPhone, describes these page and download-placement controls.
