You can try a continuous fireplace stream with OBS on a low-end PC, but no preset can guarantee that a particular computer, internet connection, or power supply will stay live around the clock. Start with a simple scene, test at 720p30, and tune the output to what your PC and stable upload can actually sustain. For true 24/7 operation, plan for dropped connections, power interruptions, heat, and YouTube’s archive limit as well as OBS settings.
Before you start: check the limits of your setup
Write down your operating system, CPU, RAM, graphics hardware, available storage, and internet connection. In OBS, check which encoders are available under Settings > Output. A hardware H.264 encoder may reduce CPU encoding work if your system offers one, but encoder quality and capability vary. Do not choose an encoder based only on the label “low-end.”
OBS’s stated minimum requirements indicate compatibility, not guaranteed streaming capacity. OBS says CPU needs depend on encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity, and recommends its Auto-Configuration Wizard as a hardware-specific starting point. - Install and open OBS Studio, then run Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard. Choose the option for streaming and follow the prompts. Treat its result as a starting configuration, not proof that your setup can run indefinitely.
- In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming if you have not done so already. YouTube may require channel verification and activation time; follow the status and prompts shown in your account.
- Before a public broadcast, conduct a private or unlisted test and check YouTube’s stream health while OBS is running. Use the same PC, network, scene, and approximate stream duration you intend to rely on.
Build a lightweight fireplace scene
For the first test, make one scene containing only the fireplace video and the audio you actually need. Add a source with Sources > + > Media Source, select the video file, and enable looping if you want that clip to repeat. Confirm the source plays correctly and that its audio is not unexpectedly loud or silent.

Keep browser overlays, animated alerts, extra full-screen media, and unnecessary filters out of the initial scene. OBS notes that sources can consume resources even when not visible, and that browser sources and filters may be resource-intensive. If the preview stutters or encoding overload appears, simplify the scene before adding anything else. See OBS encoding performance troubleshooting.
Use a modest, testable starting configuration
For a relatively static fireplace scene, begin with 1280×720 output at 30 frames per second, H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and stereo AAC audio if the scene uses sound. This is a test configuration, not a guarantee for every PC or connection.

- Open Settings > Video. Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720 and Common FPS Values to 30. Keep the base canvas at the resolution that fits your scene unless performance problems require changing it.
- Open Settings > Output and select Advanced output mode if needed. Under the streaming section, choose an available H.264 encoder; test hardware encoding and x264 rather than assuming one is best. Set rate control to CBR, keyframe interval to 2 seconds, and enter a bitrate appropriate to your measured, stable upload.
- Under Settings > Audio, use AAC stereo for stream audio if needed. Check that the sample rate and selected audio device behave correctly in a test.
- Open Settings > Stream, select YouTube, and connect your account or enter the stream key obtained in YouTube Studio. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share screenshots that reveal it. If exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Use YouTube’s recommended RTMPS connection where the service and OBS setup offer it. YouTube recommends automatic resolution detection unless you have a specific reason to set a custom stream resolution.
YouTube’s encoder settings guide recommends H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. That 8 Mbps figure is YouTube’s platform recommendation, not a requirement for every home connection or low-end PC. OBS’s connection guidance suggests beginning around 75% of total upload speed, then lowering the bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it. A lower bitrate can reduce image quality, so check the actual scene and stream together.

OBS’s x264 article gives a different 720p30 starting range of 3,000–5,000 kbps for x264 veryfast under low-to-medium motion assumptions. It is not directly interchangeable with YouTube’s recommendation: the encoder and assumptions differ. Use a controlled test to find a stable result rather than treating either number as a universal setting. Tune quality against PC load and upload stability

If OBS shows encoding overload, lower output resolution and/or frame rate before increasing scene complexity. Try 30 fps if 60 fps is unstable. Lowering the base canvas resolution can also help a severely constrained PC, but you may need to reposition and resize scene elements afterward.
For network problems, test upload stability at different times and monitor OBS dropped frames. If frames are dropping, reduce bitrate and check the router, modem, and network drivers. If the problem appears beyond the PC or local network, contact your internet provider. A Cat6 Ethernet cable is useful only if your PC and router have Ethernet ports and the cable can reach; it does not create more upload capacity.

Plan for continuous operation, power, and recovery
A local OBS stream depends on the PC, its power, the network connection, and YouTube remaining available. The evidence available here does not establish a PC threshold, thermal behavior over several days, suitable UPS runtime for a particular Indian household, or guaranteed YouTube continuity. Check temperatures and stability during a sustained test, keep vents clear, and make a realistic plan for local power and network interruptions. Do not assume OBS can recover from every failure without intervention.

In India, measure the stable upload available at the place and time the stream will run; a speed-test peak alone does not establish round-the-clock capacity. Prefer Ethernet when practical. If you use Wi-Fi, test at the PC’s actual location and at different times, since congestion or route changes can affect a long-running connection.

Will YouTube save a 24-hour live stream?
Not necessarily. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a complete replay matters, make and test a local recording backup before relying on it. Local recording adds storage use and workload to the same PC, so confirm that both disk space and performance are adequate. YouTube recommends a local backup; it does not establish that dividing a 24-hour broadcast into segments guarantees complete archives or uninterrupted playback. Copyright and monetization for a fireplace loop
Use fireplace footage and music you created or have permission to use, and keep records of licenses. Permission to use material and eligibility for monetization are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policy, updated July 15, 2025, says repetitive or mass-produced content falls under its “inauthentic content” policy and is ineligible under the existing policy. An endlessly repeated stock fireplace clip or music loop should not be presented as assured monetizable content; eligibility depends on YouTube’s assessment of the individual channel and content. Troubleshoot the common failure modes
- OBS reports encoding overload or the picture stutters: reduce output resolution or FPS, remove unnecessary sources and filters, and test another available encoder. Change one setting at a time so you can identify the cause.
- YouTube reports poor stream health or OBS drops frames: lower bitrate, test the connection again, prefer Ethernet, and check router/modem and network drivers. If instability persists outside the PC or home network, contact your ISP.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: confirm that live streaming is enabled for the channel, OBS is using the intended YouTube account or current stream key, and the selected server/connection is available. Reset an exposed key and replace it in OBS.
- The fireplace video stops rather than repeating: open the Media Source properties and confirm looping is enabled; test the file locally and make sure the file path remains available after restart.
- The stream is live but has no sound: check the Media Source’s audio, OBS mixer meters, selected audio device, and YouTube preview during a test. If the video is intentionally silent, avoid adding an unlicensed music loop just to fill the audio track.
- The stream ends during a power or internet interruption: OBS on a local PC cannot keep broadcasting while the PC or connection is unavailable. Restore power/network, reopen OBS if needed, and restart the broadcast in YouTube Studio; do not promise a complete archive of the interrupted session.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. If a complete replay is important, test a local recording and verify available disk space before going live.
