To run your first Antigravity coding task, choose one of three routes—Antigravity 2.0, the agy command-line interface, or Antigravity IDE—install the matching build, create or open a trusted project, and submit a small prompt. The official starter task is Write a simple python script to fetch web page text
. Start in Local mode if you want changes in the active folders, or choose New worktree mode for an isolated Git working copy.
What Google Antigravity is and which route to choose
Antigravity is Google’s agentic coding environment. Instead of asking only for a code completion, you give an agent a goal and let it inspect an allowed workspace, reason about the work, modify files and show you the resulting changes. You remain responsible for reviewing the plan, diff and side effects before using the output.
The setup differs by surface. Do not combine the desktop application’s project steps with the CLI’s first-run flow or the IDE’s installation instructions.

All three routes need access to a project directory. Your choice is mainly about where you want to work—project manager, terminal or IDE—and whether the agent should edit active folders or an isolated Git worktree.

A practical route decision
Choose the application when your first concern is deciding which folders and repositories the agent can reach. Its project view makes that boundary explicit before you send a request. Choose the CLI when the repository is already central to your terminal workflow and you want the agent available from that working directory. Choose the IDE when you want the generated files, plan and edits beside the editor and its normal run controls.
These are workflow distinctions, not a claim that one surface produces better code. The same small task is a useful first test on each route because it exposes the setup boundary without requiring a large application or a complicated dependency tree.
Check operating-system and architecture requirements first
The current Antigravity 2.0 and IDE guidance lists these minimums:

These are minimum platform statements, not a performance guarantee. If your operating system, CPU architecture or C library falls outside them, use the current official download and requirements pages to confirm support rather than forcing an installer to run.
On a Mac, identify whether the machine is Apple Silicon or Intel before selecting a package, and do not infer support merely from seeing an Intel download label. On Windows and Linux, match both the operating-system version and the processor architecture. Linux users should check the library versions specifically; a recent kernel alone does not establish that the required glibc and glibcxx versions are present.
Install and configure the Antigravity 2.0 application
1. Download the correct application build
Open the official Antigravity 2.0 download page from Google’s current documentation and select the build matching your operating system and CPU architecture. On macOS, pay particular attention to the Intel-x86 qualification described above; the labels on a download page can change as releases evolve.
2. Launch and sign in
Start Antigravity after installation and sign in with either a personal Google Account or a business account connected to Gemini Enterprise. Account availability and enterprise access can change, so use the sign-in choices shown by the current release.

- Use the folder-plus control in the application.
- Choose New Project.
- Add one or more local folders or Git repositories.
- Create the project, then open project settings if you need to adjust its configuration.
A project determines which folders and repositories the agents may access. Add only workspaces you intend to expose. If a repository contains secrets, generated artifacts or unrelated code, consider creating a narrower project or cleaning the workspace before granting access.
Adding several folders can be useful when a task spans related repositories, but it also widens the set of files the agent can inspect. For a first run, a small tutorial directory or a single repository makes the resulting plan and diff easier to understand. You can change project settings later rather than exposing every checkout at once.

4. Start an agent run
Enter your goal in the chat box and press Enter. The setup modal asks how the agent should work:
- Local mode: the agent works directly in the active folders you added.
- New worktree mode: the agent works in an isolated Git worktree, keeping its working copy separate from the active checkout.
A worktree isolates the Git working copy; it is not a promise that every external side effect, network request or system operation is impossible. Review commands, file changes and any generated artifacts before merging or running them.

Install and run the Antigravity CLI
The CLI is launched as agy. The official fast paths register that binary in a user-local path by default.
Use the installer for your shell
Choose exactly one command for the operating system and shell you are using:
- macOS, Linux or Googlebook (the name used in the CLI guide):

Each command downloads a script and executes it. Piping a downloaded installer into a shell has inherent supply-chain risk: inspect Google’s current CLI instructions and authentication guidance before running it, and use a trusted network and shell. Do not substitute a guessed URL or a modified command when following the official installation path.
Complete first launch
- Open a terminal in the repository or workspace you want Antigravity to use.
- Run
agy. If the shell cannot find it, reopen the terminal so the user-local path is loaded, then check the current installation guidance. - Choose a color scheme when the TUI asks.
- Select the requested rendering mode.
- Confirm that the repository directory is trusted.
After trust is confirmed, the guide says the agent indexes the files and becomes ready. Trust is a meaningful boundary: only approve a directory whose contents and tooling you are prepared to let an agent inspect and modify.
Submit the first CLI task
Enter the official sample prompt exactly:
Write a simple python script to fetch web page textThe CLI flow describes the agent reading the workspace, reasoning about the request and proposing a plan. Treat that plan as a review checkpoint, not automatic approval. Confirm the target file, dependencies, network behavior and error handling before allowing changes.
Install and use Antigravity IDE
Install the IDE
The IDE follows the same stated platform minimums as the application: macOS 12 (Monterey) or a newer macOS version receiving Apple security updates, Windows 10 64-bit, or Linux with glibc at least 2.28 and glibcxx at least 3.4.25. Intel x86 is identified as unsupported in the macOS requirements. The Google Developers IDE codelab describes installation on macOS, Windows and Linux and signing in with a Google account.
Download the IDE from Google’s current IDE download page. The application can prompt when updates are available; install updates only after checking that your operating system and extensions remain compatible.

Use the IDE’s plan-first workflow
Open a project in the IDE, sign in, and give the agent a small, explicit goal. When plan mode is selected, the codelab result shows an implementation plan before coding. That behavior belongs to plan mode; do not assume every mode automatically presents a plan. Read the plan, adjust the scope, then inspect the generated edits in the IDE before running them.

After coding, inspect the diff and run the script from the IDE’s normal controls or a terminal you understand. The point of plan mode is to expose scope early, not to remove your responsibility for the result.
Run a first task that is small and inspectable
The starter request is intentionally narrow: fetch the text of a web page with a simple Python script. It is small enough to review line by line and broad enough to exercise workspace reading, planning, file creation and execution.
Make the prompt operational without changing its purpose
Use the official wording first. If the agent needs more direction, add constraints in a second sentence, for example the URL to fetch, the desired output filename, the Python version, whether third-party packages are allowed, and how connection errors should be reported. Those details are your project decisions, not requirements of the sample.
For a clean first run, specify one URL and one output location rather than asking for a crawler. You can also request that the agent explain any dependency it adds and keep the implementation to one script. These constraints make the generated diff easier to audit while preserving the original exercise.
Run the script only against pages you are authorized to access. A fetcher should respect the site’s terms, robots guidance where applicable, rate limits and authentication boundaries. Never paste credentials or tokens into a prompt or commit them to the project.
Review before execution
- Check which files the agent intends to create or modify.
- Confirm that the URL, output path and dependencies match your request.
- Look for unsafe shell commands, embedded secrets, unbounded downloads or unexpected network destinations.
- Read the diff rather than accepting a summary alone.
- Run the script in a controlled environment and observe its actual error messages and output.
Use observed errors as the next prompt
If the script fails, paste the relevant error and ask for a focused correction. State what you expected, what happened and whether the agent may change dependencies. This keeps the second run bounded instead of turning an initial fetch example into an open-ended rewrite.
Understand Local mode, worktrees and project trust
When Local mode is appropriate
Choose Local mode when you intentionally want edits applied to the active folders. It is convenient for a disposable tutorial directory or a branch you are already prepared to change. Commit or back up important work first, and inspect the diff before merging it with other changes.
When a New worktree is safer
Choose New worktree mode when you want the agent’s Git changes separated from your current checkout. This makes comparison and cleanup easier, but you still need a Git repository and must review changes and side effects. A worktree does not replace access control, code review, dependency auditing or runtime isolation.

Why trust prompts matter
The CLI asks you to confirm workspace trust before indexing. The same principle applies in the application and IDE: project membership defines the files the agent can reach. Do not trust a directory merely because it has a familiar name; verify its path, repository and contents first.
What isolation does and does not solve
Local mode gives the agent direct access to the active folders, so an accidental edit appears in the checkout you are looking at. A new worktree separates Git-tracked changes from that checkout and is useful for comparison or cleanup. Neither choice automatically prevents network requests, commands that affect the wider system, or files outside the intended project from becoming relevant to a task. Keep normal backups, branch discipline and review practices in place.
Troubleshoot the first run
The installer command is not found or fails immediately
- Confirm that you used the command for your actual shell: PowerShell, Command Prompt or a Unix-like shell.
- Close and reopen the terminal so the user-local binary path is loaded.
- Check the current official CLI guide for changed commands, authentication steps or supported systems.
- Do not download a replacement script from an unverified mirror.
The application or IDE will not install
- Check macOS version and CPU architecture, especially the Intel-x86 unsupported qualification.
- On Windows, verify that the system is 64-bit and select x64 or ARM64 appropriately.
- On Linux, check both glibc (2.28 or newer) and glibcxx (3.4.25 or newer), not just the kernel version.
- Use the current release’s download page because platform packages and support can change.
The agent cannot see the files
Verify that the correct folder or repository was added to the project, that you opened the intended checkout, and that the CLI trust prompt was accepted for that exact directory. A new worktree will not contain uncommitted files from another checkout unless you deliberately bring them over.
The generated script cannot fetch a page
First distinguish a coding error from an access problem. Check the URL, DNS and network policy, then read the HTTP status and exception shown by the script. Some pages require authentication or JavaScript rendering and will not yield useful text to a basic HTTP fetch. Ask the agent to handle the specific observed failure rather than requesting a larger redesign.
The result is larger or riskier than expected
Stop the run, inspect the diff and revert unwanted changes using your normal Git workflow. Narrow the project folders, switch to a new worktree, or restate the task with explicit file and dependency limits before trying again.

Do not assume that a personal account, a business account and a Gemini Enterprise account expose identical features or billing. If the sign-in flow offers an enterprise connection, confirm which organization and billing account it uses before creating a project that contains company code.

Which Antigravity download do I need for my operating system?

No. The CLI sample flow describes a proposed plan, and the IDE codelab shows an implementation plan when plan mode is selected. Treat plan visibility as workflow- or mode-dependent and inspect the actual changes either way.
Why can’t the CLI find agy after installation?
The official installer registers agy in a user-local path by default. Reopen the terminal so that path is loaded, confirm you used the installer for the correct shell, and consult the current CLI guide if the command still is not available.
Is a Gemini Enterprise account required?
