To get alerts when flight prices change, track your route in Google Flights or set a price alert in Skyscanner. Choose the dates—or “Any dates” if you are flexible—then check the full itinerary and booking terms when an alert arrives. An alert is a prompt to recheck a fare, not a guarantee that it will still be available or that it is the cheapest option.
Set up a flight price alert in Google Flights
Google Flights lets you track prices for a route on selected dates or, if your dates are flexible, for “Any dates.” For a fixed trip, enter your departure and destination airports and travel dates, then set useful filters such as stops and cabin class before tracking the route or a specific flight.
- Open Google Flights and search for your route and dates.
- Choose any relevant flight preferences, including stops and cabin class, so the search reflects the trip you would actually take.
- Turn on Track prices for the route or a specific flight. If your dates are flexible, choose Any dates.
- Check your email for updates and reopen the search to verify the fare and itinerary before booking.
Google says it can email you when the price of a tracked flight or route changes significantly. It also describes notices when tracked prices are likely to rise or a fare may expire soon. For “Any dates,” Google says it can alert you when the route’s minimum price falls significantly over a month; its help page does not give a universal dollar or percentage threshold. Price insights and predictions are guidance based on past trends, not a promise about what prices will do next.

Skyscanner requires you to sign in to an account to create a price alert. The steps depend on where you search, and labels can vary by device or region.

- Mobile web: Search for the flight and save it to create an alert.
- App: Search for your trip and use the alert toggle or bell in the results.

Compare the real trip, not just the displayed fare
When an alert arrives, reopen the result and compare the details that affect the trip and its total cost. A lower displayed price may involve trade-offs that make it a worse fit.

- Dates and airports: Confirm the exact outbound and return dates and airports. Google’s “Cheapest” results may use different airports for the outbound and return legs.
- Stops and transfers: Check the number of stops, connection times, and whether a connection requires a self-transfer. A self-transfer can mean separate tickets and additional risk if the first flight is delayed.
- Provider and ticket terms: Note which airline or booking provider sells the fare, and review its change, cancellation, and payment terms before purchasing.
- Baggage and included services: Check what is included in the fare, including checked baggage. Providers’ services and inclusions can differ.
- Current total: Recheck the price on the provider’s booking page. Fares and availability can change between an alert and the time you search again.
Google says it compares offers from over 300 travel partners, but its results may not include every available offer. Its “Best” and “Cheapest” tabs also serve different purposes: “Cheapest” can surface online travel agency options and itineraries with trade-offs. Use comparison results to find options, then inspect the specific offer and its terms.

Skyscanner’s app-only Drops feature is for discovering selected low fares, not for monitoring one planned itinerary. Skyscanner says a Drop qualifies when the fare is at least 20% below the lowest price it observed for that itinerary during the previous seven days. The feature shows return journeys for one economy traveler, and Skyscanner warns that prices and availability can change.

A qualifying Drop is not necessarily the cheapest choice for a similar route elsewhere. Compare its dates, airports, connections, and baggage against the trip you want. Details are on Skyscanner’s Drops page.

An alert tells you that a tracked price has met the service’s notification criteria; it does not reserve the fare. Google describes alerts for significant changes and price insights, while Skyscanner warns that prices fluctuate and availability can change. Neither service’s documentation establishes that waiting will save money or that a particular weekday always has the lowest fare. Decide based on the current price, itinerary, and terms you can verify when you are ready to book.
