To loop a podcast episode on YouTube Live, enable an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, copy its RTMPS URL and stream key, then run FFmpeg with -stream_loop -1 before the input file’s -i option. That makes FFmpeg repeat the file indefinitely while -re sends it at a live playback rate. The setup uses YouTube’s standard encoder workflow; the available guidance does not specify a special India-only FFmpeg command or ingest protocol.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube says livestreaming requires the creator to be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- Live streaming enabled. If this is your first time enabling it, activation can take up to 24 hours.
- A computer with FFmpeg installed, the podcast file you have the right to broadcast, and an internet connection with enough sustained upload capacity for the chosen stream settings.
- A podcast file containing the video and audio streams you intend to send. If it has no video, you will need to add a visual input; if it has no audio, it cannot provide the podcast sound.
YouTube’s encoder workflow is the same for creators in India as elsewhere in the cited setup guidance. Your own stream URL and key come from Live Control Room. Test the connection from the location and network you will actually use; the command itself does not guarantee that a particular India-based connection has sufficient upload capacity.
Create a YouTube encoder stream and get its credentials
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Create → Go live.
- Create a stream or schedule one. In its stream settings, locate the stream URL and stream key.
- Choose the RTMPS URL shown by Live Control Room. YouTube may display the standard RTMP URL by default; use the option in its RTMPS instructions to reveal the secure URL if needed.
- Copy the exact URL and key. Do not guess the ingest endpoint: the YouTube API describes the combined address format as
STREAM_URL/STREAM_NAME, but use the actual values for your stream. Depending on the encoder or frontend, the URL and key may be entered together or in separate fields. See the YouTube Live Streaming API guide.
Treat the key like a password. Do not publish it in a script, screenshot, shared log, or tutorial. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio before using the stream again.

Check the podcast file and choose stream settings
Before building the command, inspect the file’s streams with a media-probing tool such as ffprobe. Confirm which stream is the intended video and which is the intended audio. The example below selects the first video stream and first audio stream, so it must be changed if the file’s layout differs.

YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends H.264, HEVC, or AV1 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. For H.264 at 720p30, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps video. That bitrate is not a universal setting for every resolution or frame rate; consult the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrates and choose an output your connection can sustain.
The command below re-encodes to H.264 and AAC, uses an 8 Mbps video target, and sets a 60-frame GOP. At 30 fps, that corresponds to a two-second GOP; because this example does not force an output frame rate or scale to 720p, adjust the frame rate, resolution, bitrate, and GOP for the actual source and desired output. It is a template, not a tested command for every file or account.

Run FFmpeg with an infinite loop

-f flv "rtmps://YOUR-INGEST-URL:443/YOUR-STREAM-KEY"Replace episode.mp4 with the file path and replace the output placeholder with the actual RTMPS address and key from Live Control Room. Follow the format required by your encoder: some interfaces have separate server and key fields, while a command-line output may use a combined address. Do not literally use the placeholder values.

-rereads the file at its native rate instead of sending it as quickly as FFmpeg can process it. FFmpeg documents this option in its real-time streaming examples.-stream_loop -1is an input option meaning to loop the associated input indefinitely. It must appear before that input’s-i. See the FFmpeg command-line documentation.-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0selects the first video and first audio stream from input 0. Change or remove a map if the file has a different layout.-c:v libx264and-c:a aacencode video and audio. Re-encoding helps set output parameters but uses computer processing capacity. Copying streams instead can reduce encoding load only when the input streams and output format are suitable for YouTube’s ingest requirements.-f flvselects the output container commonly used for RTMP-family ingest. YouTube recommends RTMPS; use the secure URL copied from Live Control Room.
Verify the preview, then monitor the live stream
- Start FFmpeg and wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room.
- Confirm that both picture and sound are present and that the intended episode is playing. Test representative speech, music, and moving video before relying on the stream.
- Start the broadcast using the controls for the stream type you created. Keep an eye on YouTube’s stream health and any warning messages while live; the platform recommends testing and monitoring before and during an event.
- To stop, interrupt FFmpeg and end the stream in Live Control Room as appropriate. YouTube’s encoder guidance says to stop sending content from the encoder to end an immediate stream; follow the controls for your scheduled or ongoing stream.
Common problems and fixes

Copyright and YouTube live-stream rules
Looping a file does not create permission to broadcast it. Make sure you have the necessary rights to every podcast episode, music track, clip, image, and other third-party material in the stream. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; it can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even licensed content may require the rights holder to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance.

For eligibility, YouTube’s published guidance says: “To live stream, you need to have no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days and you need to verify your channel.” This encoder workflow should not be confused with mobile-only live-stream availability rules.
