To enable Face ID in the Bank of America Mobile Banking app, first make sure Face ID is configured on your iPhone. Then open the app, select the biometric-login setup option on the sign-in screen, sign in with your usual Online Banking credentials, and follow the prompts. Bank of America requires the latest app and offers biometric sign-in only on select devices.
Before you start
- Set up Face ID on your iPhone if you have not already. Bank of America says device biometrics may need to be configured before app enrollment. Bank of America Security Center
- Update the Bank of America Mobile Banking app to its latest version. The bank says biometric sign-in is available only on select iOS and Android devices; its public guidance does not list every supported iPhone model. Bank of America fraud-protection resources
Enable Face ID in the Bank of America app
- Open the Bank of America Mobile Banking app.
- On the sign-in screen, select the biometric-login setup option. Bank of America calls this option “Set up biometric login.” The precise wording may vary by app version.
- Enter or select your User ID and sign in with your usual Online Banking credentials.
- Follow the instructions shown in the app to complete enrollment.
Bank of America’s published instructions do not specify a separate Face ID menu path beyond the sign-in-screen setup option. Follow the prompts in the current app version.
If the Face ID setup option is missing
- Confirm that Face ID is configured on the iPhone.
- Update the Bank of America app, then check the sign-in screen again.
- Keep in mind that the bank supports biometric sign-in only on select devices and does not publish a complete model-by-model eligibility list in its public guidance.
- If setup still does not work, call Bank of America Mobile Banking support at 800.432.1000. Mobile Banking customer service
What Face ID changes—and what it does not
Biometric sign-in provides a way to sign in to the app using device biometrics. It does not guarantee that the bank will never request another verification step: Bank of America says it uses two-factor checks at various points in its digital banking experience, including some sign-ins and transactions.
