To use a phone with a Pioneer stereo, pair it through the receiver’s Bluetooth connection menu, then select the Bluetooth audio source for music if it does not start automatically. Test phone calls separately: pairing alone does not confirm that call audio is routed through the stereo. Pioneer menus vary by model, so use the instructions for your exact receiver; the AVH-600EX steps below are one documented example, not a universal menu path.
Before pairing, identify your Pioneer model
Find the receiver’s exact model number on the unit, its screen or documentation, then open the matching owner’s manual. Button names and connection menus differ between Pioneer receivers. For example, the touchscreen AVH-600EX and older DEH-600BT use different pairing workflows.
Pioneer’s AVH-600EX product page can help identify that model and its documentation. Do not assume that another Pioneer stereo uses the same menu labels, device limit or PIN.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minutePair a phone with an AVH-600EX
The AVH-600EX operation manual describes this sequence. Keep the car parked while setting up and confirming the connection.

- Simple Sound Customization: Dedicated Direct EQ Keys let you adjust bass, treble, and balance settings on the Pioneer stereo to match your personal listening style.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
- Open the receiver’s Bluetooth screen and choose Connection.
- Start a device search on the receiver.
- When your phone appears, tap its Bluetooth name.
- If a confirmation prompt appears, accept the pairing on the phone and receiver as requested.
The AVH-600EX manual says the receiver can register up to five devices. Its Bluetooth settings also let you manually connect a registered device, disconnect it or delete it. Other models may have different limits and controls. See the AVH-600EX operation manual for the model-specific procedure.
Play music over Bluetooth
Pairing does not necessarily select the stereo’s music input. Once the phone is connected, choose the receiver’s Bluetooth audio source and start playback on the phone. The AVH-600EX manual treats Bluetooth audio separately from hands-free calling and requires the audio player to be registered and connected.

If Bluetooth is connected but music is silent, check that Bluetooth audio is enabled as an AV source if your model requires it, then select that source on the stereo. The setting’s location varies by receiver; consult its manual rather than assuming the AVH-600EX menu applies.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Confirm hands-free calling separately
While parked, place a test call. Check that you hear the caller through the car speakers and that the caller can hear you through the vehicle microphone. If the phone offers a call-audio output selector, verify that the call is routed to the Pioneer stereo rather than the handset or another connected device. Use the receiver’s manual for its call controls and microphone instructions; Pioneer models do not share one universal call procedure or microphone placement.

How an older DEH-style receiver pairs
The DEH-600BT uses a different workflow from the AVH-600EX. Its manual directs users to select BT HANDS FREE, choose a group, set pairing to PAIRE FROM PHONE, and then start the connection from the cellular phone. For that DEH-600BT model, the manual lists PIONEER FLAP BT as the default device name and 0000 as the default PIN. These are historical, model-specific settings—not universal Pioneer defaults. Enter a PIN only if the manual for your receiver instructs you to do so. Consult the DEH-600BT manual.
Troubleshoot common Bluetooth problems
The phone cannot find the stereo
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on both the phone and receiver.
- Put the receiver into its pairing or discoverable mode. On the AVH-600EX, visibility is a Bluetooth setting.
- Follow the matching model manual’s connection procedure; a receiver may not appear in a phone search until pairing mode is active.
The receiver reports that its memory is full
On the AVH-600EX, the manual’s registration limit is five devices. In its Bluetooth settings, delete an unused saved device and try pairing again. Do not assume other Pioneer models have the same capacity.

The phone pairs, but music will not play
- Select Bluetooth audio as the receiver’s source.
- Check whether the model requires Bluetooth audio to be enabled as an AV source.
- Start playback on the phone and confirm that the phone’s audio output is directed to the Pioneer stereo.
Music works, but calls do not
Check the phone’s call-audio routing and privacy or audio-output mode, then consult the receiver’s model-specific instructions for hands-free calling and microphone use. Music playback and hands-free phoning are separate functions, so a working music connection does not prove that calls are connected correctly.
The phone does not reconnect automatically
Use the receiver’s connection settings to select the saved phone manually. The AVH-600EX manual documents manual connection as an option; menu names and behavior can differ on other models.

If the receiver microphone needs replacement
Confirm the Pioneer receiver’s exact model and the replacement part’s compatibility before buying a microphone. Pioneer’s parts listing identifies a microphone assembly for the AVH-600EX, but that does not establish fit for other receivers or current third-party availability. Check the Pioneer AVH-600EX parts listing and verify the part number and fit for your unit.
