First check whether your exact LG UltraWide model has built-in speakers. If it does, unmute and raise the monitor’s volume, then select its display-audio device as your computer’s sound output. If it does not, connect headphones or external speakers using an audio output supported by that model. “UltraWide” describes a product family, not a shared speaker or port configuration.
1. Check whether your LG UltraWide has speakers
Look up the full model number on LG Support and check the specifications or user manual. LG notes that built-in speakers and supported input ports vary by model. If speakers are not listed, the monitor cannot produce sound through internal speakers.
Check the manual’s port diagram as well. Some models offer an audio output for headphones or external speakers, while the available connections differ across models. LG’s monitor sound troubleshooting guidance recommends using external speakers or headphones when the monitor lacks built-in speakers.

If the model has built-in speakers, use its buttons, joystick, remote, or on-screen menu to check that it is not muted and raise the volume. The controls and menu names vary by model; consult the manual if you cannot find the audio setting.

3. Select the monitor as the sound output in Windows 11
- Open the sound controls from the Windows taskbar.
- Choose Select a Sound Output.
- Select the LG monitor or its associated display-audio device. It may be listed under the name of the computer’s graphics hardware rather than “LG Monitor.”
- Raise the Windows system volume. If only one program is silent, open Volume Mixer and check that app’s level.
These steps follow LG’s Windows 11 no-sound guidance. Settings differ on other operating systems, so use the sound-output controls for your system.
4. Check the cable, port, and input
HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C can carry audio when both devices and the specific connection support it. A picture on screen does not mean the computer has routed sound to the monitor.

- Reseat the cable at both ends.
- Confirm the monitor’s selected input matches the port you connected.
- If possible, test another compatible cable or port.
- Use a direct, supported connection where possible. LG warns that an HDMI-to-DVI adapter or conversion cable may pass video without audio.
5. If Windows does not show a monitor audio device
Reconnect the cable and monitor, and verify the selected input. Then check Device Manager for a display-audio device under sound controllers or audio inputs and outputs. If it is missing or shows an error, check the computer and graphics-card manufacturers’ current audio and graphics drivers; restart after installing any updates. Exact driver steps depend on your PC and hardware.

6. Connect external sound if the monitor has no speakers
Connect headphones or external speakers to an audio output on the monitor, if that model has one, or use the computer’s audio output. Check the monitor’s manual and port layout before buying speakers or a cable: there is no single connector guaranteed across LG UltraWide models.
