For the best results, set up the BRAVIA 8 II in this order: finish its required software update, choose picture settings for each kind of content, configure HDMI inputs for their connected devices, and then decide whether the built-in sound meets your needs. There is no single picture mode or numeric calibration recipe established as best for every viewer and source. The steps below apply to Sony’s 2025 BRAVIA 8 II / XR80 family; menus and included hardware can vary by region and model suffix.
1. Complete initial setup and update the TV
Follow the on-screen setup to connect the TV to your network, sign in to a Google account if you want Google TV and its apps, and tune broadcasts if applicable in your region. Sony says the initial setup can generally be completed using the on-screen instructions, and its product information identifies a mandatory software update during setup. App and network-service availability can vary and may change.
For menu names, included accessories, and model-specific details, confirm the full model number on your TV and consult Sony’s Help Guide and Setup Guide. The cited page is for the U.S. K-65XR80M2; another regional version may differ.

Picture quality is a choice between content accuracy and personal preference, not a universal preset. Sony’s 2025 picture-mode overview confirms the BRAVIA offers picture modes, but does not establish one universally correct mode or reliable numeric calibration values. Start with the available picture modes and evaluate the image using the content you actually watch. Broadcasts, streaming apps, and games can need different choices.

- PURE BLACK AND OUR HIGHEST OLED BRIGHTNESS: Over 8 million self-lit pixels are precisely controlled to produce pure black with our highest OLED brightness.
- BILLIONS OF REAL-WORLD COLORS: See billions of accurate real-world colors with a Quantum Dot panel and XR Triluminos Max.

- EVERYTHING YOU STREAM. ALL IN ONE SCREEN: Get access to all your favorite streaming apps in one place with Google TV. With Google Assistant, simply use your voice to search and ask questions.
- If you prefer a more vivid look, use a mode that suits that preference.
- If you want supported streaming content presented closer to its creator-intended appearance, try Studio Calibrated mode in the supported app.
- For games, choose settings that suit the connected console and the game’s supported features; do not assume the setting that works best for one HDMI device is ideal for another.
Try Studio Calibrated mode only for supported streaming apps
Sony describes Studio Calibrated mode as “designed to faithfully reproduce content as the creator intended.” Its support article, last modified June 12, 2026, documents the path as Quick Settings → Image Settings → Picture & Sound → Picture → Studio Calibrated. Sony lists Netflix, Prime Video, and Sony Pictures Core as supported apps; you must be signed in to a supported app.
This is an app-specific presentation option, not a global picture mode. Streaming may look different from broadcasts or other video, and Studio Calibrated prevents selecting other picture modes while active. Compare it with your usual presentation and leave it off if you prefer the other look.

3. Set up each HDMI input for its device
Configure an HDMI input according to what is connected. Compatible gaming equipment can use the TV’s 4K/120 capability, but higher-bandwidth HDMI formats can affect Dolby Vision output from some external devices. Sony documents that some Dolby Vision devices may not output Dolby Vision when HDMI signal format/VRR is set to Enhanced format (4K120) or Enhanced format (Advanced).
If Dolby Vision is missing, check the HDMI signal format/VRR setting for that input, confirm that Dolby Vision output is enabled on the connected device if it has that option, and restart the source. Sony’s documented alternative is an Enhanced format option; the precise labels and available choices can vary by model. Recheck the result on the specific device and content rather than assuming one HDMI setting suits every source.

An HDMI cable is sold separately; replace your existing cable only if it cannot support the capabilities you want to use.
4. Configure the TV for PS5 during first pairing
If you use a PS5, pay attention to the initial pairing flow. Sony says Auto HDR Tone Mapping must be enabled when pairing the PS5 for the first time. If it was not enabled then, Sony says a PS5 factory reset is required to enable it later during initial setup. Auto Genre Picture Mode also requires Auto Picture Mode to be set to ON.

Sony limits these specific features to a PS5 connected directly to the TV or to a compatible Sony soundbar. Check the exact connection and feature requirements on Sony’s BRAVIA 8 II product page.
5. Start with the built-in sound
The BRAVIA 8 II uses Acoustic Surface Audio+, which makes the screen itself act as a speaker. You can begin with the TV’s built-in audio and add a soundbar or other external system only if you want a different or more immersive setup.

Acoustic Center Sync and BRAVIA quick-setting integration are available with compatible Sony audio products, not automatically with every soundbar or receiver. Before buying or connecting an external system, check Sony’s current compatibility information and whether the particular feature or product requires optional rear speakers. Sony’s product page identifies compatible Sony audio products, including the BRAVIA Theater Bar 8, as options; compatibility is product- and function-specific.
