For natural-looking films and TV, start with Movie or Filmmaker Mode, make sure the picture fits the screen, then adjust only the controls that solve a visible problem. There is no single best numeric recipe for every Samsung TV: the right setup depends on the model, room lighting, source, and your preferences.
Open your Samsung TV’s picture settings
On many Samsung TVs from 2022 onward, open Settings > All Settings > Picture. Choose Picture Mode to select a preset, or return to Picture and open Expert Settings to adjust individual controls.
On 2021-and-older models, Samsung documents a route through Home/Smart Hub > Settings > Picture. Menus and available options vary by model, year, region, input, and software version. If a label or path does not match your screen, check the manual for your exact model. Samsung’s picture-settings guide and US picture-setting guidance describe the variations.

Picture modes are sensible starting points, not guarantees that one preset will look best in every room. Samsung’s descriptions distinguish between a film-focused presentation, general viewing, brighter images, and energy saving.

Start with Movie or Filmmaker Mode in a dark room, then compare in the lighting where you actually watch. Samsung UK also recommends adjusting the mode to suit room lighting in its picture-quality guide.
Fix cropping or stretching with picture size
Before changing colour or sharpness, check whether the image is being displayed at the right size. Open Picture Size Settings. Depending on the TV and source, Samsung may offer 16:9, Custom, 4:3, and Fit to Screen; some setups also offer Zoom and Position.

- If edges of the picture are missing, try Fit to Screen, if available.
- If people or objects look unnaturally wide or narrow, check for a mismatched aspect ratio and choose a suitable setting rather than forcing a different shape.
- Use Zoom and Position only when you need to reposition or zoom an image; availability depends on the model and input.
Samsung’s picture settings page lists these picture-size options and notes that they can vary across setups.

Expert Settings affect different parts of the image. Make small changes, use familiar content, and compare before and after. The names and ranges are not identical on every Samsung TV, and Samsung’s guidance does not establish universal numeric targets for these controls.

Samsung explains these controls in its support guidance, including its picture-settings reset and adjustment page. The same page notes that applying picture settings can affect the current input or all inputs, depending on the option selected. Check this before making changes if you use several connected devices.

Samsung TVs may include controls for motion, local contrast, and picture processing, but their names and availability depend on the model, region, content, and input. Try an option only when it addresses something you notice, and compare it with the setting off.

- Picture Clarity or motion controls: These change how motion is presented. Some options, such as LED Clear Motion, can make the screen appear darker.
- Local Dimming: On models that offer it, this affects local contrast and light output. Whether the result looks better depends on the content and your preference.
- Contrast Enhancer: This changes perceived contrast. More punch is not automatically more faithful to the source.
- Film Mode: This may be available for particular sources or content. Use it only if it improves the material you watch.
Because processing can change the image rather than simply correct it, use your own familiar films and shows to judge the effect. Samsung’s support guide describes settings that may appear on supported models.

Treat HDR and SDR remastering as separate choices
On supported TVs, HDR Tone Mapping adjusts brightness according to information in HDR content. Auto HDR Remastering, where available, can make SDR material look HDR-like. These controls are model-dependent; remastering SDR does not establish that the result is more accurate. Compare the remastered and original-looking presentations with the same program and keep the one you prefer.
Use a separate approach for gaming
Game Mode is designed for responsiveness, not as a general film-viewing preset. Samsung UK says it reduces input lag and can reduce picture-processing capabilities; some models turn it on automatically when a game console is connected. Use it when responsiveness matters, then switch back to your preferred general picture mode for films or TV if desired. Availability and behaviour vary by model and connection. Check HDMI compatibility only if you use an external device
If a console, streaming box, or other external source is not delivering the format you expect, check that the HDMI cable is rated for the source and TV’s 4K or 8K output. Samsung Gulf recommends cables rated for the relevant 4K/8K setup in its picture-adjustment guidance. A replacement is a compatibility step when the existing cable is inadequate—not a general picture-quality upgrade when a working cable already supports the connected devices.
