To set up a Samsung Galaxy Watch 8, pair it with a compatible Android phone using Samsung’s Galaxy Wearable app. The listed minimum is Android 12.0 and 1.5 GB of RAM; iPhones are not supported for Watch8 setup and pairing.

Meeting the Android and RAM minimums does not guarantee that every phone model will work. Samsung cautions that some specific models may be incompatible, so check Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 compatibility guidance if you are unsure about your exact phone.

Pair the Galaxy Watch 8 with your Android phone

  1. Install or update Galaxy Wearable. Get the app from an official app store, or update it if it is already installed. Samsung uses Galaxy Wearable for initial setup and phone-side watch management.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth and power on the watch. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on the phone before you begin.
  3. Open Galaxy Wearable and start setup. Samsung Canada Support’s setup guide says, “Step 1. Open the Galaxy Wearable app, then tap Start.” Select or confirm the watch when prompted.
  4. Confirm the pairing on both devices. Follow the prompts on the phone and watch, then continue through the on-screen instructions until setup is complete.

The setup guide is for Canada, and screens or wording can vary by device model and software. If your prompts look different, follow the instructions shown on your own devices.

If the watch will not connect

Work through these checks in order:

  1. Bring the devices closer. Samsung lists a maximum Bluetooth connection range of 10 m (32 ft), but the actual distance varies with the environment. Keep the phone and watch near each other and remove physical obstacles where possible.
  2. Check Galaxy Wearable. Make sure the app is installed and up to date, then reopen it.
  3. Check Bluetooth. Confirm Bluetooth is on for the phone.
  4. Restart both devices. Restart the phone and watch, then launch Galaxy Wearable and try pairing again.
  5. Recheck compatibility. If the connection still fails, verify the phone’s Android version, RAM and exact model against Samsung’s compatibility guidance; a phone can meet the baseline and still be unsupported.
