Turn on your Galaxy A37 5G, follow the Setup Wizard, and choose either the assisted transfer flow or manual setup. You can move data from an Android phone over Wi-Fi or USB, or bring eligible content from an iPhone or iPad by cable or iCloud. Smart Switch does not guarantee a complete copy of every app, password, or protected item, so keep your old phone until you have checked the important data and sign-ins.
Before you start
- Charge both phones. Samsung says Smart Switch runs when devices are at least 20% charged. For a large wired transfer, charge them first: Samsung says the phones cannot be connected to a charger during that transfer.
- Have your Wi-Fi details and the passwords for your Samsung and Google accounts ready, if you use those accounts.
- Keep the old phone available and unlocked when prompted. Check that important apps have their own backups and that you know how to recover their accounts before you erase or trade in the old device.
- If you plan to use a cable, check that it connects to both phones and supports data transfer. iPhone cable choices and adapters are covered below.
Samsung’s Galaxy A37 5G setup guide says the Setup Wizard starts with language selection and acceptance of the terms. The remaining screens can vary depending on the setup and transfer path you choose.
Set up the Galaxy A37 5G
- Turn on the A37 5G and select your language in the Setup Wizard. Read and accept the terms to continue.
- Choose whether to use another device or set up the phone manually. For assisted setup, select Galaxy or Android device or iPhone or iPad, as appropriate. The A37 displays a QR code for the old phone to scan; follow the instructions shown on both devices. To skip assisted setup, choose Set up manually.
- Connect the A37 to Wi-Fi and continue through the prompts. Sign in to your Samsung and Google accounts when asked, as applicable.
- Complete the remaining Setup Wizard screens. Their order and wording can differ between manual and assisted setup.
The initial QR-assisted choice is a setup route, not a promise that every item will move. If you skip a transfer or want more control over what is copied, you can use Smart Switch after setup.
SIM and eSIM service
A physical SIM must be compatible with your network. eSIM availability and activation depend on your carrier. Samsung says you can postpone eSIM activation during setup and complete it later in Settings. If activation fails, or you recently changed carriers, ask the carrier about eSIM support, SIM compatibility, and any device-unlocking requirement.

Transfer data from an Android phone
Samsung documents both Wi-Fi and USB transfers through Smart Switch. The A37’s Setup Wizard can start an assisted QR flow; the screens may differ from opening Smart Switch after setup.
- Install or update Smart Switch on both phones, then make sure each is at least 20% charged.
- On the A37, open Smart Switch and select Receive data, then Galaxy/Android. If you are still in the Setup Wizard, choose the assisted Galaxy or Android device path instead.
- Choose Wi-Fi or USB and connect the phones. Keep them close if using Wi-Fi.
- Select the categories you want to transfer, review the selection, and start the transfer. Follow any prompts on the old phone.
Wi-Fi avoids the need for a cable and is a reasonable choice when the amount of data is manageable. Samsung recommends USB for a large transfer because it is relatively faster. Since the phones cannot be connected to a charger during that wired transfer, charge them beforehand. Samsung’s Galaxy setup instructions cover the connection options and prerequisites.

Transfer data from an iPhone or iPad
Samsung’s Galaxy setup guidance describes a cable route and an iCloud route. The cable must match the devices: Lightning-to-USB-C or USB-C-to-USB-C may work, depending on the iPhone or iPad. If you have a USB-A cable, you may need a compatible OTG adapter; Samsung notes that this adapter is sold separately.

Use a cable
- Connect the iPhone or iPad to the A37 with a compatible data cable or adapter.
- Choose the iPhone or iPad transfer option during setup, or follow the Smart Switch prompts after setup.
- Unlock the Apple device and respond to any trust or connection prompts that appear.
- Choose the eligible content to bring over and start the transfer.
Use iCloud
- Choose the iCloud transfer route in the Samsung setup or Smart Switch prompts.
- Sign in as prompted and select the content you want to bring over.
- Allow the transfer to retrieve eligible items that are synced to iCloud. Items that were not synced there will not be available through this route.
WhatsApp chat history
Samsung documents a specific iOS-to-Android WhatsApp migration flow. Use the current WhatsApp version and transfer chat history before signing in to WhatsApp on the new phone. Because the prompts and requirements may change, check the latest instructions displayed on both devices before starting; do not sign in on the A37 first if you intend to use this migration flow. What may not transfer
Smart Switch is a migration tool, not a guaranteed full clone. Samsung UK says most app data transfers, but secure or encrypted data may not. App information held on the app provider’s servers may require a separate backup or a fresh login. Apps installed outside the Play Store may need manual installation, and credentials such as banking logins may not carry over. With an iPhone, the app stores also differ, so an Android equivalent may not exist for every iOS app. These are general cautions, not a guarantee about the behavior of every app or carrier; see Samsung UK’s transfer limitations.
- Before wiping the old phone, open the A37 and verify that essential photos, contacts, messages, and files arrived.
- Open important apps and confirm that you can sign in. Use each app’s own backup or account-recovery process for missing protected data or credentials.
- If an app is missing, install it from the appropriate app store if available, then use the app provider’s recovery steps. Repeating the entire phone transfer is unlikely to restore server-held or protected information.
Other transfer options
For a phone-to-phone move, Wi-Fi or a compatible cable is usually the direct choice. Samsung also documents using Smart Switch on a PC or Mac to back up and restore, and using external storage. External storage capacity can limit what you can select; microSD support varies by model, while USB storage is another possibility where the devices support it. These are alternatives rather than requirements for a routine migration. Details are available from Samsung’s Smart Switch transfer instructions.

Troubleshoot setup or transfer problems
The A37 cannot connect to Wi-Fi
- Check the password and move within range of the router.
- Confirm the network is working. Samsung suggests restarting the router and trying again.
Smart Switch cannot connect to the old phone
- Confirm Smart Switch is installed or updated on both phones.
- For Wi-Fi transfer, keep the phones close together.
- Restart both phones and retry the connection.
- If a wireless connection remains unreliable and you have a compatible cable, try USB. For a large wired move, charge both phones first.
Mobile service or eSIM activation fails
Check that the physical SIM is compatible, confirm that your carrier supports eSIM for the device and plan, and ask whether the phone needs unlocking. The carrier is the right contact for activation problems.
