To set up a racing wheel for Gran Turismo 7, first confirm that your exact wheelbase works with your console (PS4 or PS5) and GT7. Then mount and connect it as its manufacturer directs, select the required console or game mode, and adjust it in GT7’s pre-race Quick Menu > Settings > Controller Settings. Wheel compatibility and startup steps vary by model, so do not assume that a wheel that fits a console—or a wheel rim that fits a base—will work with GT7.
Check compatibility before connecting the wheel
Identify your console, exact wheel model, wheelbase, and pedal set. Confirm the combination on the wheel maker’s current support page, then check GT7’s wheel-assignment information. The game’s manual lists device-specific assignments, including Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro and DD Extreme and Logitech G PRO; it notes that T500RS settings are for PS4 only. Those entries are not a blanket guarantee for every version or bundle. See GT7’s wheel and button-assignment information.
Compatibility can depend on the wheelbase, not just the detachable steering wheel. Fanatec says PlayStation compatibility is built into selected wheelbases; its FAQ lists Gran Turismo DD Pro and ClubSport DD+ among compatible bases and says its PlayStation-compatible bases are licensed for PS4 and PS5. Mount and connect the wheel according to its manual
Secure the wheelbase to a desk, table, or rig using the included clamp or mounting hardware, and attach the pedals as the product guide specifies. Check that your surface is stable and that the pedals can sit securely. A separate stand or cockpit is optional: PlayStation describes the GT DD Pro package as including a wheel, base, pedals, and table clamp, but contents differ by product and bundle. Check what comes with your wheel and whether it fits your desk before buying extra mounting hardware. Review PlayStation’s wheel overview and GT DD Pro package details.
Connect power and USB in the order and to the ports specified by the wheel maker. There is no universal cable sequence for all wheels. If the manufacturer’s startup procedure calls for calibration, leave room for the wheel to move freely and follow its instructions about keeping hands, pedals, and other objects clear. Such startup cautions are model-specific, not a rule that applies identically to every wheel.

Select the correct console or game mode
Set the wheel to the mode prescribed for your exact console and GT7 version before launching the game. Modes and their indicators differ across products; use the maker’s guide rather than guessing from a light color or copying another brand’s instructions.

For the T598, Thrustmaster’s guide specifies red PlayStation mode 2 for certain native PS5 games, explicitly including GT7. Blue mode 1 is for PS4, PS4 games played on PS5, and most PS5 games. This is a T598-specific distinction; do not apply it to other Thrustmaster models or other brands. The guide also covers base, rim, and pedal settings, firmware, force-feedback profiles, rotation angle, and pedal type. It says Auto rotation adjusts the angle to the game’s vehicle. Open GT7’s wheel settings
Launch GT7 using the initialization process in your wheel’s manual. Once in a pre-race session, open the Quick Menu and select Settings > Controller Settings. GT7’s driving-options manual identifies this menu for controller and steering-wheel sensitivity. Inspect the displayed button assignments as well, since the mapping depends on the wheel. See GT7’s driving-options manual.
Begin with the wheel’s and game’s existing or manufacturer-recommended settings rather than copying an alleged universal “best” setup. Make small changes to steering sensitivity, force feedback, or vibration, then drive briefly and change one setting at a time. Comfort and response vary by wheel and player; the cited setup guidance does not establish one ideal setting for every model.

Test the wheel and troubleshoot recognition problems
Try the wheel in a low-stakes session before relying on it in a race. If GT7 does not recognize it or controls behave unexpectedly, check the likely causes in a deliberate order:

- Confirm the exact compatibility. Match the wheelbase and console to the maker’s current compatibility information and GT7’s device-specific assignments.
- Check the physical connections. Make sure the USB and power connections are seated, the pedals are attached as instructed, and the base is receiving power.
- Verify the mode. Select the correct PS4, PS5, or game mode for your model. Do not assume mode names or colors are consistent between products.
- Follow the maker’s startup and firmware guidance. Use its model-specific troubleshooting steps and check whether firmware or game updates apply.
- Inspect GT7’s controller settings. Recheck the selected device, button mapping, and sensitivity under the pre-race Quick Menu’s Settings > Controller Settings.
For excessive or loud vibration on a Logitech G923, GT7’s compatibility notice says PS4 and PS5 updates released March 8, 2023 included connectivity repairs. It advises lowering Options > Controllers > Vibration Function in GT7 if the G923 vibrates excessively or loudly. This is specific to that documented G923 case, not a general fix for every wheel. If you are still choosing a wheel
Compare the precise PS4/PS5 and GT7 compatibility, whether PlayStation licensing resides in the base, the force-feedback type and adjustments, included pedals and mounting hardware, desk or rig fit, and the quality of the manufacturer’s firmware and support documentation. Do not choose by wheel-rim compatibility alone.
As one product specification, PlayStation lists the GT DD Pro at 5 Nm maximum torque, with an optional upgrade to 8 Nm using the separately sold Boost Kit. PlayStation also describes the package contents and identifies the wheel as Direct Drive; these are product specifications, not independent test results or proof that it is the best choice for every player.
