The safest setup order is: decide whether the tablet is personal or company-owned, prepare both devices and your accounts, complete Android’s first-run wizard, transfer only the data you need, install updates, and then enroll the work account using your employer’s required management method. Ownership determines what your organization can control, so do not treat a personal tablet with a Work Profile and a fully managed company tablet as the same setup.

Google’s consumer transfer instructions are documented for Pixel Tablet, while enrollment screens and policies vary by manufacturer, Android version, and your employer’s enterprise-mobility-management (EMM) configuration. Use the device’s prompts as the final authority, and contact IT before resetting or enrolling an employer-provided tablet.

1. Decide who owns and manages the tablet

Before turning it on, identify the management model. A personally purchased tablet usually uses Android Enterprise’s Work Profile, which separates work apps and data from your personal side. A company-owned tablet may be enrolled as a fully managed device, giving the organization broader control over settings, applications, security and resets. Some employers use a company-owned, personally enabled arrangement, often called COPE, with a managed work area and permitted personal use.

Setup model Typical owner Where work data lives What the organization may control What to confirm with IT
BYOD with Work Profile You Inside a separate work profile Work-profile apps and data; selected device requirements such as screen lock may be enforced Which work apps are required, what device settings are enforced, and how removing the profile works
Company-owned, fully managed Your employer Managed device environment Device-wide policies, approved apps, account restrictions, updates and, where authorized, remote actions Whether the tablet is pre-registered, the enrollment method, permitted personal use and the reset procedure
Company-owned with separated personal use Your employer Managed work area plus an allowed personal area Work controls and some broader device settings, depending on policy Which personal features are allowed and what information is covered by the privacy notice

Android Enterprise describes Work Profiles as a way to separate and secure work apps and data from personal use, particularly for BYOD and similar deployments. Actual capabilities depend on the Android release, tablet maker and EMM policy, so an employer’s written instructions override any generic menu path.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Ask for the enrollment method first

Request the exact instructions for your tablet before you create accounts or move data. IT may require a device-policy-controller app, a managed Google account, a QR-code scan, a token, or a sign-in through a company portal. Ask whether the tablet is already registered for zero-touch enrollment. A zero-touch device can automatically receive organizational apps and policies during setup; a factory reset does not remove that registration. Only the organization can release it.

2. Prepare the tablet, old device and accounts

Charge the new tablet and the old phone or tablet, and connect the new device to a reliable Wi-Fi network. Keep the old device powered on until you have checked the migration. Have the Google Account credentials you intend to use, your work credentials, multifactor-authentication method and any recovery codes available. If your employer supplied the tablet, keep its asset information and IT contact details nearby.

Choose whether you are starting fresh

  • Start fresh when the tablet has a different purpose, the old device contains clutter, or company policy prohibits copying personal data onto a managed device.
  • Copy selected data when you need contacts, photos, apps or settings but want to review each category.
  • Restore from a Google Account backup when the old device is unavailable or you prefer a cloud-based restore. Availability and restore contents depend on the device and backup state.

For a wired transfer, use a cable that supports data transfer and has connectors compatible with both devices. A charging-only cable will not perform the migration. Because ports differ, no single cable can be assumed to work with every Android tablet.

3. Complete Android’s first-run setup

Screen names differ by manufacturer and Android version, but the sequence is broadly similar. Follow the on-screen wizard rather than skipping a required management step.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
  1. Power on and select the basics. Choose language, region and accessibility options. Keep accessibility features enabled if you need them; they can usually be changed later in Settings.
  2. Join Wi-Fi. Use a network that allows Google services and, if required, your employer’s enrollment service. A captive portal or filtered network can interrupt setup, so switch networks if enrollment cannot reach the service.
  3. Read the ownership or management notice. If the tablet identifies itself as managed, company-owned or registered for zero-touch, stop and follow the supplied organizational instructions. Do not attempt to bypass enrollment.
  4. Sign in with the intended personal Google Account. On a personal tablet, use the account that should hold your consumer backups and Play purchases. If IT specifies a different order or managed account, follow that order instead.
  5. Choose the transfer option. The wizard may offer a cable, wireless copy or backup restore. Select only the categories you want, and remember that a transfer is not necessarily a complete clone.
  6. Set a screen lock and security options. Choose the method allowed by your employer and the tablet. A management policy may require a particular strength or timeout, or may prevent changing it later.
  7. Finish setup and install system updates. Leave the tablet on Wi-Fi and power while updates, Play components and any required management software finish.

Google’s detailed walkthrough for these transfer choices applies to Pixel Tablet. Other Android tablets can use different labels, omit an option or place transfer after the initial wizard.

4. Pick the right data-transfer method

Method Best when What the Pixel Tablet guide says may transfer Important limitations
Cable Both devices are available and you want a direct, usually predictable copy Photos, videos, on-device contacts, apps and some app data, wallpaper and widgets may transfer Requires compatible data-capable connectors; categories and screens vary on other models
Wi-Fi device-to-device You have no suitable cable or want a wireless copy Uses the setup wizard to copy supported content over a strong Wi-Fi connection Can take longer and may fail if either device sleeps, disconnects or has restricted network access
Google Account backup The old device is unavailable or you prefer a cloud restore Restores content included in the available backup Only backed-up items return; account sign-ins and unsupported app data may still require manual setup

What may not transfer automatically

Google specifically warns that some downloads, data from apps that do not use Android backup, non-Google accounts and their data, and certain settings may not copy to Pixel Tablet. Check critical documents, authenticator access, messaging history, browser data and app-specific content individually. Do not erase the old device until you can open the files and services you need on the new one.

Use a deliberate migration checklist

  1. Review the transfer summary before confirming. Deselect categories that should remain private or are unnecessary.
  2. Keep both devices unlocked and connected until the wizard reports completion.
  3. Open Gallery or Photos and inspect recent and older items, not just the total count.
  4. Open Contacts and verify that entries saved only on the old device are present.
  5. Launch high-value apps and complete any sign-in, download or license step they request.
  6. Copy downloads and locally stored work files separately if they were not included.
  7. Keep the old device intact until your work and personal checks are complete.

5. Enroll work access on a personal tablet

On BYOD, the usual pattern is a Work Profile. Your employer’s device-policy controller creates a distinct work area, installs approved work apps and applies the organization’s rules to that profile. Depending on the configuration, the work apps may show a briefcase badge or appear in a separate work tab.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Typical enrollment sequence

  1. Open the account or device-management area named by IT. Depending on the tablet, this may be under Settings > Accounts, Passwords & accounts or a similarly named section.
  2. Choose the work-account or management option, then enter the work address and authentication details when prompted.
  3. Install the device-policy-controller or management app only from the route specified by your employer, such as managed Google Play or a company portal.
  4. Read the permissions and privacy notice. Confirm only after you understand which work data the organization can manage.
  5. Allow the controller to create the Work Profile. Wait for policy checks and required work apps to finish.
  6. Open one or two managed apps and verify that they can reach the services you need.

If the account-add screen does not offer a work option, do not improvise with a personal account. Your employer may require a different controller, a supported Android version or a fully managed enrollment. Ask IT for the correct path.

  • Travel Must-Have for People On the Go: A must-have travel accessory for flights, flying, airports, air travel, airplanes, planes, international trips, cruises, and long travel days. Key gadget for your airport haul, travel accessories and must-haves.

6. Enroll a company-owned or fully managed tablet

A company-owned tablet can receive device-wide restrictions in addition to a managed work area. The enrollment may start automatically during the first-run wizard, through a QR code, with a supplied token, or after installing the organization’s device-policy controller. The controller communicates with the EMM, applies restrictions and checks whether the device remains compliant.

During managed enrollment

  • Use the organization’s managed Google account when instructed; do not substitute a personal account to bypass a required step.
  • Keep the tablet connected to Wi-Fi and power while policies and approved apps install.
  • Read notices about camera use, screenshots, storage, USB connections, accounts, reset rights and personal-use boundaries.
  • Record the help-desk route and asset identifier before leaving the setup screen.

If a company-owned tablet repeatedly returns to an enrollment screen after a reset, that behavior can be expected for a zero-touch-registered device. The organization must remove or reassign the registration; a local factory reset cannot do it.

7. Understand what your employer can see and control

For a personal tablet with a Work Profile, Google states that personal apps and data are not visible to the organization. The organization can manage work-profile apps and work data, and its policy may require some device settings. This does not mean every employer uses identical rules or that every device feature is private; the configured policy and privacy notice control the details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

On a company-owned device, management can extend beyond the work profile to device-wide settings and restrictions. Depending on policy, the organization may control permitted accounts, application installation, security requirements, updates, network behavior and remote actions. The exact list is configuration-dependent, so ask IT about any control that matters to you before adding personal information.

Keep the two sides visibly separate

  • Use the work-badged version of an app for company files and the personal version for private accounts.
  • Check the destination account before saving attachments, photos or contacts.
  • Use the employer’s approved sharing and cloud-storage route for work material.
  • Do not copy corporate files into an unmanaged personal app unless policy explicitly permits it.
  • When you leave the organization, remove the Work Profile or return the managed tablet as instructed; do not delete business data manually if IT needs to preserve it.

8. Complete personal setup after enrollment

Once migration and work enrollment are finished, install personal apps from Google Play and sign in to services that did not transfer. Add only the accounts you actually need. Review notification settings so work alerts and personal alerts are distinguishable, and organize the home screen or launcher without moving managed apps out of their required area.

Backups and storage

Confirm which personal backup account is active and whether photos, contacts and device settings are included. A company policy may limit backup services on a managed device. For work data, use the employer’s approved storage and backup process rather than assuming a consumer backup will capture it.

Accessories for work

A keyboard case can be useful, but compatibility depends on the exact tablet model, connector and case design. Check the model number before buying. For migration, verify that any USB-C cable supports data and fits both devices; a cable’s connector shape alone does not prove that it carries data.

10. Troubleshoot common setup failures

Symptom Likely cause What to do
The old device is not detected by cable Unsupported connector, charging-only cable, locked source device or disabled USB permission Unlock both devices, reconnect, approve the USB prompt and try a confirmed data cable. If compatibility remains uncertain, use Wi-Fi or backup restore.
Wireless transfer stops Weak Wi-Fi, sleeping devices, low battery or network filtering Put both devices on power, keep them nearby and awake, reconnect to a stronger network and restart the transfer. Do not erase the source device.
Expected files or app data are missing The item was not backed up or the app does not support Android backup Check the old device and the app’s own export or sign-in process. Copy permitted files manually and contact the app provider or IT for work data.
Work Profile will not create Wrong enrollment method, unsupported Android version, existing management or an EMM-side restriction Stop repeated resets, capture the exact error and ask IT which controller and account to use.
Work apps are present but cannot connect Policy check incomplete, missing certificate, VPN requirement or incorrect account Open the management app, complete pending compliance steps and follow the organization’s network instructions. Escalate with the tablet model and error text.
The tablet returns to company setup after reset Zero-touch or other organization registration remains active Have the organization remove or reassign the registration. A factory reset alone will not unregister it.

11. Handle fully managed work-device transfers carefully

Do not assume that a managed tablet can be restored like a personal one. Google’s Android Enterprise guidance says a fully managed transfer requires the old and new devices to use the same managed Google Account and the same EMM. Transfer is blocked by default unless the EMM enables backup services, a safeguard for corporate data. If work apps or settings do not restore, contact IT rather than trying to create an unapproved backup.

12. Maintain the separation after setup

Install updates promptly when the tablet or management app requests them, but expect an employer policy to control timing or deferment. Periodically check that you are saving files to the intended account and that the Work Profile remains active. If you sell, recycle or repurpose a personal tablet, remove the Work Profile through the approved process and perform a personal factory reset only after confirming that no work data remains and that IT has released any organizational registration.

The dependable setup is not the one that copies the most data; it is the one that leaves you with verified personal files, a functioning work enrollment and a clear understanding of who controls each part of the tablet.
