To set up a four-screen portable monitor, first confirm that your laptop can drive the displays and that the port you plan to use carries video. Then follow the monitor maker’s power and panel-assembly instructions, connect the signal cable, and arrange the displays in your operating system. A USB-C-shaped port alone does not guarantee video output, and some laptops cannot support four external screens.
Check laptop compatibility before connecting
Find your laptop’s exact model and operating system, then check the manufacturer’s documentation for its external-display limit at the resolution and refresh rate you intend to use. The supported number can vary by laptop model; Apple notes that Mac limits can also depend on display resolution and refresh rate (Apple’s MacBook Pro display-limit guide).
For example, Apple’s current support table says MacBook Pro models with M4 Max support up to four external displays simultaneously, while M4 and M4 Pro models support up to two. These limits are specific to those chip and model configurations; check the table for your Mac rather than treating those figures as a rule for all Macs. Apple also recommends checking connection and display requirements when planning external displays (Connect one or more external displays with your Mac).
How can I tell if my USB-C port supports video?
Check the laptop’s specifications or support page for the exact port. Look for explicit support for video output, such as DisplayPort Alt Mode, or follow the laptop maker’s instructions for external displays. The connector’s shape is not enough to establish that it can send a video signal. ASUS, for example, distinguishes USB-C video support from the presence of a USB-C port in its ZenScreen connection guidance.

If the portable monitor supports another video connection, such as HDMI, that may be an option when your laptop has a compatible output. Follow the specific monitor’s instructions for any separate power connection, and do not assume an adapter or cable can overcome a laptop’s display-count limit.
Prepare the monitor and cables
Read the setup guide for your exact monitor model before assembling it. Modular quad monitors can differ in signal routing, power requirements, drivers, and panel connectors. For the Lepow 18.5-inch modular four-screen setup, the manufacturer describes a four-screen arrangement and connection options. Its guide lists a 65W power adapter and Type-C cables in the kit; these are manufacturer specifications, not a general requirement for every portable monitor (Lepow Modular 4-Screen Monitor User Guide).

- Confirm the laptop can support the intended external displays.
- Verify video output on the port you plan to use.
- Check the monitor guide for driver, cable, power, and assembly requirements.
- Use a replacement cable or power adapter only if needed, and match the monitor’s stated requirements.
Connect and assemble the four-screen monitor
For the Lepow modular kit, follow the manufacturer’s sequence. Its guide says to connect the power adapter to the monitor’s Type-C power port, connect the laptop to the monitor with the Type-C-to-Type-C signal cable after confirming the laptop port supports video, and join the panels using their magnetic connectors.

- Connect the laptop and monitor with the supplied Type-C-to-Type-C cable, using a laptop port confirmed to support video.
- With the system powered off, attach or adjust the panels using the magnetic connectors.
- Power on the system and check whether all panels receive a signal.
Lepow warns: “Always turn off the power before adjusting or removing the magnetic connectors.” Follow the instructions for your own monitor if its assembly method differs.

Choose extend or mirror and arrange the displays
Once the panels appear in your operating system’s display settings, choose whether to extend the desktop or mirror a display, then arrange the screens to match their physical positions. In macOS, open System Settings > Displays to manage display settings and arrangement; Apple provides steps in its guide to extending or mirroring the Mac desktop.
Windows menus and any driver installation steps depend on the laptop, monitor, and connection method. Use the exact monitor guide and laptop support instructions for that combination rather than relying on a universal driver sequence.

Why is one monitor showing no signal?
Start by checking compatibility, not by repeatedly replacing cables. A blank panel can result from a laptop port that does not output video, a host that cannot support the requested number of displays, a missing model-specific driver, a loose signal cable or panel connector, or inadequate or incorrect power.

- Verify that the connected USB-C port supports video output, or use another connection explicitly supported by both devices.
- Reseat the signal cable and modular connectors. Power the monitor off before adjusting magnetic connectors.
- Check the monitor maker’s driver instructions and install only what the exact model requires.
- For the Lepow kit, check the cable and connectors if a screen flickers or goes black, and use the manufacturer-recommended original 65W adapter. That adapter guidance is specific to this kit.
If the laptop’s display limit is below the monitor’s panel count, reconnecting the same cable will not establish support for more displays. Check the host and monitor documentation for a supported connection method before troubleshooting further.

Compare quad-monitor kits by the details that affect setup
Lepow and RIITEK both list quad portable monitor configurations, but their product pages are manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance comparisons.
