To set up a fight stick for Toaplan Arcade Garage: Flying Fire Shark, first confirm that your exact stick supports the console you’re using, then connect it and test its directions and action buttons in the game. The arcade original used an 8-way joystick and two buttons per player, but that does not establish the modern collection’s button assignments or compatibility with any particular stick.
Check which console version you’re playing
The PlayStation Store’s US listing identifies the collection as a PS4 title and gives its release date as 29 August 2026: Toaplan Arcade Garage: Flying Fire Shark on PlayStation Store. A September 2026 review covers the Switch version: Creative Bloq’s review of the Switch version.
Before connecting or buying a fight stick, identify whether you’re playing on PS4 or Switch and check the manufacturer’s compatibility information for that exact console. The available game listings and review do not verify compatibility for specific fight-stick models.
Connect the stick and test its inputs
- Check the manufacturer’s console instructions. Follow the connection and any required mode-selection steps for your stick and console. The game sources do not give a game-specific connection sequence.
- Open Flying Shark and test directional input. Move the stick in all directions and confirm the game responds as expected.
- Test at least two action buttons. The original arcade control reference lists an 8-way joystick and two buttons per player: ArcadeRTFM’s Flying Shark control reference. This is a useful baseline for checking inputs, not proof of the modern collection’s assignments.
- Check the game’s settings. Look for control or remapping options if you want to change button assignments. The available sources do not confirm that remapping is offered.
What to expect on Switch
Creative Bloq’s September 2026 review of the Switch version reports that the game responded as expected during that reviewer’s play. That is an observation from one review, not a guarantee for every stick or setup. The review also discusses TATE play, a vertical display arrangement that may suit a vertical shooter; it does not say that a fight stick is required for this mode.

Choosing a fight stick
A PS4-compatible arcade stick is a reasonable category to consider for the PS4 version, but confirm the exact model’s supported platforms with its manufacturer before purchasing. For either console, the practical checks are whether the stick supports that console, whether its directions and action buttons register in the game, and whether its layout is comfortable for you. No specific model is confirmed as compatible with this collection.
