In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, select your 200Hz monitor if more than one display is connected, then choose 200Hz from the refresh-rate menu if it is available. The information panel on that page shows the selected display’s current resolution and refresh rate.

Set the monitor to 200Hz in Windows 11

  1. Open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display.
  2. If several screens are connected, use the display selector to choose the monitor you want to configure. Check the screen number against the display arrangement shown under Settings > System > Display if you are unsure which screen is which.
  3. Open the refresh-rate menu and select 200Hz if it appears.
  4. In the information panel for that screen, check the current resolution and refresh rate. Confirm that the intended monitor is selected and that Windows reports 200Hz.

The available refresh rates depend on the display and the modes it supports; Windows does not necessarily offer 200Hz for every monitor or setup. Microsoft’s instructions for this setting apply to Windows 11 and Windows 10: Microsoft Support: Change the refresh rate on your monitor in Windows.

Check the resolution before accepting a starred rate

Windows marks refresh-rate options that do not support the current resolution with an asterisk. Choosing a starred rate changes the resolution to obtain that refresh rate. After selecting a mode, review the resolution shown in Advanced display and make sure it is appropriate for your use. Microsoft explains this behavior on its refresh-rate support page.

If 200Hz is not listed

  • Make sure you selected the right screen. On a multi-display setup, the menu applies to the display selected on the Advanced display page; a laptop panel or another external monitor may have different available rates.
  • Check the current resolution. Windows lists modes based on the display’s supported capabilities, and a starred option may use a different resolution.
  • Do not treat a registry change as a way to force an unsupported mode. The Windows selector reflects rates available for the connected display and its capabilities; the cited Microsoft guidance does not establish a supported software override for a missing 200Hz option.

Windows 10 and Dynamic Refresh Rate

The same Advanced display route works in Windows 10, but that operating system is now a legacy option: Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Microsoft says free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, and security fixes are no longer provided after that date, although PCs continue to work. See Microsoft Support’s Windows refresh-rate instructions.

Dynamic Refresh Rate (DRR) is separate from manually selecting a 200Hz mode. In Windows 11, DRR can automatically adjust refresh rate according to activity; it requires compatible hardware, variable refresh rate (VRR) support, and a display rate of at least 120Hz. Microsoft notes that DRR can limit maximum refresh rate in some games. Windows 10 does not support DRR. Selecting 200Hz in Windows sets a display mode; it does not guarantee that a game will render 200 frames per second.
