On Windows, go to Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, then choose a refresh rate from the options listed for your LG UltraGear monitor. To confirm the signal the monitor is receiving, open its on-screen Settings menu with the joystick button beneath the screen and check the input refresh rate. The available rates depend on the exact monitor model and connection.
Change the refresh rate in Windows
- Right-click an empty area of the desktop and select Display settings.
- Open System > Display > Advanced display.
- Under Display information, open Choose a refresh rate.
- Select a rate shown in the list as supported for the current display configuration.
Windows only offers the rates available to the connected display in the current setup. LG’s July 9, 2025 guidance shows examples ranging from 120Hz to 480Hz across different models, but those examples do not mean a particular UltraGear monitor supports any one of those rates. LG also lists sample timings such as 1920×1080 at 60Hz and 2560×1440 at 120Hz, 143.99Hz, and 239.97Hz. These are examples, not a universal compatibility table. LG’s help article says supported modes vary by model.
Check what signal the monitor is receiving
Use the joystick button below the screen to open the monitor’s on-screen Settings menu, then inspect the displayed input refresh rate. This helps distinguish the rate selected in Windows from the rate arriving at the monitor.

- Check your exact model’s supported modes. Consult its owner’s manual; specifications differ among UltraGear models and may also depend on resolution and connection.
- Check the cable and port. LG’s general guidance mentions DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.0 or higher for higher refresh rates and recommends trying the cable included with the monitor. Whether a connection supports your target rate depends on the exact monitor, port, resolution, and mode.
- Check the PC’s capabilities. The CPU, graphics card, and overall PC performance can affect which modes are available.
- Consider the user environment. LG also identifies the environment as a factor that can affect higher refresh rates.
A different cable is worth considering only if the current cable or connection is limiting the supported mode; buying one is not automatically necessary. LG’s guidance is to consult the manual for the specific monitor rather than assume all models or ports support the same maximum rate.

Choose between available rates
If Windows offers more than one supported rate, select the one that fits your goal. A higher supported rate can provide smoother motion, while a lower rate may be useful for troubleshooting or personal preference. There is no single best refresh rate for every UltraGear monitor or PC: confirm that the mode is supported at your current resolution and connection, and that the computer can deliver it.
