On most Samsung Galaxy phones, open Settings > General management > Date and time. Turn on Automatic date and time and Automatic time zone to use network-provided settings. To enter the values yourself, turn off automatic date and time and use the manual controls that appear.
Menu labels and options can vary by model, software version, and country. Samsung’s instructions here apply to devices sold in Canada, and Samsung notes that screens and settings may differ elsewhere. Samsung Canada’s date and time guide was last updated January 8, 2026.
Set your Galaxy phone’s date and time automatically
Automatic settings are the easiest option for most people, but the phone needs network-provided information. If the clock or time zone does not update, check that the phone has a connection and that its carrier service is working.

- Open Settings.
- Tap General management > Date and time.
- Turn on Automatic date and time.
- Turn on Automatic time zone.
If the settings fail to update, check the connection under Settings > Connections. Samsung identifies carrier issues, travel across time zones, and being offline as possible reasons for incorrect time or zone information. See Samsung’s Galaxy time and Calendar troubleshooting guide.

Set the date, time, or time zone manually
Manual controls are hidden while automatic date and time is enabled. You can use manual settings when network-provided values are unavailable or you need to enter a specific value.
- Open Settings > General management > Date and time.
- Turn off Automatic date and time and, if it is enabled, Automatic time zone.
- Tap Set date, Set time, or Select time zone, as needed, and enter the correct values.
A manually selected time zone that observes daylight saving time can still adjust the phone’s time on the appropriate date. Manual date and time settings do not necessarily disable daylight-saving adjustment.

Choose 12-hour or 24-hour clock display
In Settings > General management > Date and time, turn on Use 24-hour format to display time using the 24-hour clock. This is a display preference, separate from whether your date and time are set automatically or manually.
Fix a wrong time or time zone
Automatic time is not updating
Confirm that the phone is online and able to connect to its mobile network. Samsung recommends temporarily setting the date and time manually if automatic updates are failing, then turning Automatic date and time back on once service is restored.

The time zone is wrong while traveling
Check Automatic time zone. Some phones also offer Set time zone based on location; if that option appears, enabling it lets the network use the phone’s current location when selecting a time zone. If automatic selection is unavailable or unsuitable, turn it off and choose the zone manually.
The clock is right but a Calendar event is not
Check the event’s own time and time-zone details. Samsung also provides a Lock time zone control in Calendar settings; an event’s zone handling can affect how it appears even when the system clock is correct.

Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi exception
Samsung says Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi models running Android R do not support automatic time-zone services; set the time zone manually on those tablets. This exception applies to those tablet models and that Android version, not to Galaxy phones generally.
Why accurate time matters
Samsung Canada warns: “Many apps and websites may not operate correctly, and you may see security warnings, if the date and time on your phone or tablet are not accurate.” This warning comes from Samsung’s support guidance, not a quantified study.

If your Settings menu looks different
The route above is the usual one, but Samsung’s labels and available options can differ by device, software build, carrier, and market. Search Settings for Date and time if you do not see General management, then follow the options shown on your phone.
