You can set a stock price alert by opening the security in your brokerage app, choosing an alert control, entering a price condition, and saving it. Moving-average alerts are less universal: check the specific app and platform, because an indicator available on desktop may not be available in mobile. An alert reports that a condition occurred; it does not decide whether you should buy, sell, or hold.
How to set a stock price alert
- Search for and open the stock, ETF, or other security in your brokerage app.
- On its quote or chart screen, look for Set an Alert, an Alerts menu, or a bell icon.
- Choose the condition, such as the price crossing above or below a threshold, and enter the target.
- Save the alert, then open the app’s alert list or manager to make sure it is active.
- Enable the delivery channel you want in the app and allow notifications in your phone’s operating-system settings. If timely delivery matters, verify that the chosen channel works for your account and device.
Labels and available conditions vary by brokerage and app version. The examples below describe US support materials; they should not be assumed to represent availability in other regions.
Steps for specific brokerage apps
Charles Schwab Mobile
- Go to Markets, search for a symbol, and open its quote details.
- Tap Set an Alert, choose Target price, select the price type and direction, and enter the target.
- Save the alert. To review open alerts, use the profile icon > Stock Alerts; triggered alerts appear on a separate tab.
Schwab says alerts created in its mobile app do not synchronize with alerts on thinkorswim or Schwab.com. See Schwab’s Schwab Mobile stock-alert instructions.

- Open a stock or ETF chart in the app or web classic.
- Choose the bell, then Price alerts.
- Set an above- or below-price threshold and save.
Robinhood’s support page also describes an Indicator alerts option for stocks and ETFs, but does not establish that every moving-average type is available. The page describes certain 5% and 10% movement-alert thresholds; these are product settings, not performance statistics. Robinhood says custom alerts arrive as push notifications, with delivery dependent on service availability and app and phone settings. It also states: “Notifications are provided for informational purposes only, and aren’t a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any particular security.” This is Robinhood Financial LLC’s disclaimer. Fidelity Trader+ Desktop and Fidelity Mobile
In Trader+ Desktop, open Tools > News & Research > Set Alert. Fidelity documents alerts for price movement in dollars or percent, 52-week highs and lows, and price crossing 20-, 50-, or 200-day exponential moving averages (EMA). See the Fidelity Trader+ Desktop alert guide.
Fidelity’s July 27, 2026 article says Fidelity Mobile supports alerts for price, percent change, moving averages, and 52-week highs and lows, with push notifications. It also says price-trigger alerts can be sent by text or email. Exact mobile steps and options may vary with the current app version; consult Fidelity’s article on using alerts.

How to get a notification when a stock crosses a moving average
First confirm that your app offers indicator alerts and that the intended indicator and period are selectable. A generic “indicator alert” feature does not prove that a particular moving average is supported. If the app offers the setting, choose the moving average and the crossing condition, save it, and confirm it appears in the active-alert list.
Fidelity Trader+ Desktop documents price-cross alerts for 20-, 50-, and 200-day EMAs. Robinhood’s US page mentions indicator alerts, but does not specify that all moving-average types are available. For technical conditions beyond what your brokerage offers, TradingView documents alerts on indicators, drawings, strategies, and chart patterns, including crossing up or down, greater-than or less-than conditions, and entering or exiting a channel. Why an alert may not arrive
Saving an alert and receiving its notification are separate parts of the setup. Delivery can depend on the provider’s service availability, the selected channel, app permissions, and device settings. Robinhood expressly cautions that push delivery depends on service availability and app and phone settings. Provider instructions do not guarantee delivery in every circumstance, so confirm that your alert is active and notifications are enabled where you expect to receive them.
