To make Star Fox Adventures display in widescreen, open the game’s options through Peppy Hare and change Screen Ratio to Widescreen. Nintendo’s GameCube instruction booklet specifies Normal for a 4:3 television and Widescreen for an anamorphic 16:9 widescreen TV. It is a display-format choice, not a documented gameplay or performance upgrade.
How to change the screen ratio
-
Open the game’s title or menu options and select Peppy Hare, who handles the general options.

Choose Screen Ratio.
-
Select the setting that matches your display:
- Normal: for a 4:3 television.
- Widescreen: for an anamorphic 16:9 widescreen television.
Those are the display types specified in Nintendo’s official instruction booklet. The booklet does not document a resolution change or quantify any improvement in image quality, so the reliable expectation is a change in how the game is presented on a compatible widescreen display.
What else can you adjust?
The menu divides settings among character selections. Peppy opens general options, ROB handles language and subtitles, and Slippy opens audio settings.
#1 Best Overall
- Platform: Nintendo GameCube
- ESRB Rating: Teen
- Genre: Action/Adventure
| Menu area | Documented options |
|---|---|
| Peppy: general options | Screen Ratio and rumble on or off |
| ROB | Default language and subtitles on or off |
| Slippy: audio options | Stereo, Surround, Mono, or Headphones output; separate Music, SFX, and Cutscene volume controls |
The booklet lists these audio modes but does not rank them; choose the output that fits your listening setup. Rumble is a preference toggle.
Does widescreen change gameplay?
The instruction booklet describes Screen Ratio as a television-format setting. It does not say that changing it adds content, alters controls, affects the camera, improves performance, or produces a measured image-quality gain. Treat “game-changer” as a reaction to the wider presentation, not a documented gameplay effect.
Rank #2
Camera handling is a separate matter. In its contemporary review, GameSpot described the camera as a compromise between manual flexibility and automatic control, noting that the left shoulder button is used frequently for camera control. That review observation is not tied to the Screen Ratio option.
Saving on original GameCube hardware
Nintendo’s booklet says a GameCube Memory Card in Slot A is required to save. This requirement applies to the original GameCube setup described by the manual.

Instructions for the separate Star Fox game on Nintendo Switch 2 do not apply to Star Fox Adventures. Its options and controls are different; use the Adventures menu labels described above rather than importing directions for the newer game.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- CHECK YOUR CONSOLE MODEL: This memory card works only for Wii consoles with model number RVL-001 and for GameCube consoles. It is not supported on other models for Wii or on consoles for Wii U, so check the model number on your console before you order.
- FOUR 128MB AREAS: The 512MB memory card is split into four 128MB areas, and each area saves 2043 blocks. Press the area button on the card to move to the next area, and the matching light on the card shows which of the four areas is active.
- PLUG AND PLAY: The card needs no setup and is ready to save as soon as it is inserted. Insert or remove the memory card only while the console is turned off, and if a save seems to be missing, change areas first because the console reads one area at a time.
- ROOM FOR A BIG LIBRARY: The four areas add up to 8172 usable blocks of non-compressed save space, so one memory card can hold saves from a large collection of games without deleting older files.
- TRANSLUCENT BLUE WITH AREA LIGHTS: The memory card has a translucent blue shell with the 512MB label on the front, and four small lights on the card show which 128MB area is active, so you can see the current area before you start a game.
