To prepare for a major online sale, save the exact product variant you plan to buy, check its recent price history, and set an alert at a price you would genuinely accept. When an alert arrives, verify the live offer—especially the variant, seller, availability, shipping, and coupon terms—before deciding that it is a deal.
Choose the exact product you want to track
Open the listing for the specific model, size, color, storage capacity, or bundle you would actually buy. Save that page or copy its URL. A price alert for a different model or bundle may not tell you when your intended item reaches a good price.
For products with several sellers or offers, note the offer you care about as well as the product itself. Prices, stock, and delivery terms can differ even when the listing looks similar.

Check the price history before setting an alert
Amazon’s built-in price history
On an eligible Amazon product page, open the price-history link beside the price. Amazon describes views covering 30, 90, and 365 days; the available windows can depend on location and rollout. Amazon says price history is available in the U.S., UK, Canada, and India, and that 365-day insights are rolling out in the U.S., UK, and India. Use the chart to ask two practical questions: Has this item been on sale in the past 30 days? What has its price history looked like over the period shown? A brief dip may be less compelling than a price that is low relative to the item’s recent pattern.
Amazon says shoppers can also ask Alexa shopping questions such as “Is this the lowest price recently?” The feature is a useful reference for the item and history it shows, not a guarantee that no other retailer has a lower price.
What a discount label can and cannot tell you
A strikethrough price or percentage-off label is not enough to establish that an offer is unusually good. Amazon says it validates deal savings claims against a List Price or Typical Price. Set an alert at a price worth acting on
Use Amazon notifications where available
Amazon documents item-specific target-price notifications and deal alerts. Choose a target based on what you would be willing to pay, rather than waiting for an arbitrary percentage discount. This gives you a clear decision point when a notification arrives. Amazon’s target-price and deal alerts

Set up a CamelCamelCamel watch
- Copy the Amazon product URL for the exact item you want to follow.
- Go to CamelCamelCamel and paste the URL into its search bar.
- Select the price type you want to track.

Amazon’s notifications and CamelCamelCamel’s watch serve related but distinct purposes. The sources document Amazon item-specific alerts and deal alerts, and CamelCamelCamel’s product-price watches and email notifications. They do not establish a single tracker that monitors every retailer, country, and offer type, so choose based on the store and notification method you need.
What to verify when an alert arrives
Treat a notification as a prompt to check the current listing, not as proof that the item is still available at the advertised price. Before buying, confirm:

Prices and offers can change after an alert is sent. The amount shown in a notification may not be the amount available when you open the listing.

Use sale statistics as context, not a promise
Amazon’s current feature page reports that more than 50 million customers have checked price history since its 2024 launch and that the average customer checks it three times a month. These are figures reported by Amazon, not independent measurements. Amazon’s reported price-history usage figures

Amazon also says more than 80% of deals during its most recent Prime Day were at Amazon’s lowest price of the year so far. The cited passage does not identify the Prime Day year, and the statistic is Amazon’s own report. A simple plan for the weeks before a sale
- Save the intended listing. Make sure it is the exact product and variant you want.
- Review the available history. Use the retailer’s chart where offered, and note the time window it actually shows.
- Choose your buy price. Set an alert at a level that makes the purchase worthwhile to you.
