Open your sportsbook account’s responsible-gambling, safer-gambling, or account-control settings, then set a deposit cap and a session-time limit. Before saving, check what the deposit cap counts, when its period resets, whether the time control blocks access or only shows a reminder, and when changes take effect. Labels and rules vary by sportsbook and location, so use the instructions shown in your own account.
Find the account controls
Sign in and look for a section named Responsible Gambling, Safer Gambling, Limit Your Account, or similar. For example, Fanatics calls its page Responsible Gaming, while bet365’s Michigan page uses Limit Your Account (Fanatics Responsible Gaming; bet365 Michigan account limits). The exact menu path depends on the operator and jurisdiction.
Choose a deposit limit that measures deposits
A deposit limit should cap money paid into the account, not wagers placed, losses, or deposits after subtracting withdrawals. In the UK, Gambling Commission rules effective 30 June 2026 reserve the term “deposit limit” for gross deposits paid into an account over a specified duration; other controls may be offered under different terms (UK Gambling Commission: gross deposit limits).
Choose an amount you can afford to deposit during the selected period, then check how that period is defined. A “week” or “month” might be calendar-based or use another reset point. In the UK, operators must make the reset behavior clear for gross deposit limits. The Commission’s RTS 12 guidance specifies 24-hour, seven-day, and one-month gross-deposit periods; when limits overlap, the most restrictive one applies (UK Gambling Commission RTS 12 guidance). These are UK requirements, not a universal rule for every sportsbook.

Set a session-time limit
Select a time control and decide how long you want a session to last. Check what the limit actually does when time expires: an operator might end access, log you out, or provide a reminder. These effects are not interchangeable. Fanatics says it offers session-time limits with daily, weekly, or monthly intervals; bet365’s Michigan page describes a daily session limit that logs the account out when the selected duration expires (Fanatics Responsible Gaming; bet365 Michigan account limits).
Review the rules before confirming
Read the confirmation screen and any linked account terms before saving. Verify the limit’s scope, start time, reset schedule, and effect, as well as the process for changing it. A control may cover one product or an entire operator account; its description should say which. If the limit blocks deposits or access, identify exactly what action it blocks rather than assuming it also restricts wagers or other account activity.

Reductions and increases may follow different rules. UK RTS 12 guidance provides a standard 24-hour cooling-off period before an increase takes effect. Fanatics says decreases take effect immediately and an increase waits until the existing limit period has lapsed (UK Gambling Commission RTS 12 guidance; Fanatics Responsible Gaming). Those examples are not a universal schedule: follow the timing displayed by your operator and the rules where you are located. In UK guidance, an operator must implement a request as soon as practicable and tell the customer when it comes into force.

Account controls differ by operator and market. These examples illustrate why it is important to read the terms on your own account:
Rank #3
| Operator and scope | Deposit controls | Time controls and change timing |
|---|---|---|
| Fanatics | Daily, weekly, or monthly deposit limits. | Daily, weekly, or monthly session-time limits. Decreases take effect immediately; increases wait until the existing limit period lapses. (Fanatics) |
| bet365, Michigan page | Limits by calendar day, week, or month. | A daily session limit logs the account out when its selected duration expires. The page states that customers must be at least 21 and physically located in Michigan to wager; those conditions should not be generalized to other jurisdictions. (bet365 Michigan) |
| DraftKings | Lists deposit and wagering limits; its page says limits or restrictions apply across DraftKings products. | Lists time limits, cool-off, and self-exclusion. Terms and availability depend on the operator and account. (DraftKings responsible gaming) |
If limits are not enough
If you are finding it difficult to stick to a limit, use the stronger controls available in your account, such as a timeout, cool-off, or self-exclusion. Their names, duration, scope, and availability vary. DraftKings lists cool-off and self-exclusion alongside its other player controls (DraftKings responsible gaming). If you need more support, contact a locally appropriate gambling-support service; an account limit is a practical control, not a guarantee of safety or a replacement for specialist help.
