Set customer shipping charges separately from Printful’s fulfillment shipping cost, then choose whether to recover delivery expense through a checkout fee, product pricing, or a mix of both. The right rule depends on the products, destination zones, and order economics—not on assuming one shipping cost applies to every order.
Separate the two shipping amounts
Printful charges you a fulfillment shipping cost after an order is placed. Its amount depends on the product’s size and weight and where the order is going. The shipping charge displayed to your customer at checkout is a separate amount that you set in your store. The two do not have to match, but your pricing needs to account for any difference.
For each product and destination you plan to serve, check the relevant fulfillment cost before deciding what the customer should pay. A single rate may work for similar orders, but it can leave you covering a larger shortfall on heavier products or distant destinations.

Offer free shipping and include the cost in product prices
“Free shipping” means the customer does not see a separate delivery charge at checkout; it does not remove the fulfillment cost you owe. Build the expected delivery expense into product prices or cover it through other savings, and check that the resulting price still leaves room for your margin. The store’s shipping settings can also offer free shipping under conditions such as an order-price or weight threshold.

Charge a separate checkout fee
A separate fee makes delivery cost visible at checkout. You can set it below the fulfillment cost and raise product prices to cover some or all of the gap. Avoid charging customers more for shipping than the fulfillment charge, since a high checkout fee may discourage buyers. This is guidance, not a quantified prediction of sales or conversion.
Use a mix where it fits
A product-price adjustment combined with a modest checkout fee can spread delivery expense across the order. When weighing the options, consider how much margin remains after fulfillment, how visible the checkout fee is, whether products differ substantially in size or weight, and which destinations the rule covers. A cart-value or weight threshold can be useful if it maps sensibly to your costs.

Match store rates to order differences
Shipping setup documentation describes shipping zones for grouping destinations and shipping options that apply a flat charge to the whole order, rather than charging separately for each product. Options can also use minimum or maximum order-price or order-weight conditions. For a weight-based rule, enter weights for products and their variants.
Use zones when destinations have meaningfully different delivery costs. Use a flat rate when the orders covered are similar enough that one order-level charge is workable. Add price or weight conditions only when the threshold helps distinguish orders with different costs; weight conditions are only useful when product and variant weights are filled in accurately.

Account for the Printful integration limit
Do not plan on Printful automatically calculating live rates or pushing automatic flat rates to your store. Printful says those features are not supported for its connection. Instead, set up the supported manual options, such as flat rates or rates conditioned on order price or weight. Check Printful’s shipping-options information before promising customers that rates will sync automatically.

- Review fulfillment costs. Check the shipping cost for the products you sell and the destinations you serve; do not assume one amount covers every item or market.
- Choose where the cost will appear. Decide whether customers will see a separate checkout fee, a price that includes delivery, or a combination.
- Check the order economics. Account for product cost, fulfillment shipping, the customer’s shipping charge, and any amount your product pricing must make up. This is a practical calculation based on the separate costs; there is no universal formula.
- Set zones and rate conditions. In the store’s shipping settings, group destinations into zones and choose flat or conditional options that fit the orders in each zone. If a condition uses weight, fill in product and variant weights.
- Review customer-facing checkout. Confirm the fee or free-shipping condition customers will see and that your chosen rate does not depend on automatic Printful rate calculations.
Store interfaces and available options can change, so confirm the current labels and settings in your active store before publishing exact checkout promises. The documentation describes up to 20 condition-based shipping options per zone; verify that limit in the live interface before relying on it.
