Enter the destination in the event’s Location field in Google Calendar, then save the event. On Android, you may need to swipe up in the event editor to reveal that field. This gives the event a location that Calendar can handle in Google Maps, but it does not guarantee Android Auto will automatically show the event as a navigation suggestion. If it does not appear in the car, a user-reported workaround is to open the event in Calendar on your phone and tap its location to open Maps. Set this up before driving.
The distinction matters: putting an address in Calendar is the setup step; whether an upcoming event is automatically offered in the Android Auto interface is a separate behavior. Google’s Calendar help documents adding an event location and previewing it in Maps. It does not promise that Android Auto will surface every Calendar destination. If the automatic suggestion is missing, use the event’s location on your phone to open Maps while parked, then use Maps through the connected car interface.

-
Enter the destination in Location. Use a street address or a place name that Maps can recognize. Do not put the destination only in the event title or description; it belongs in the Location field.
-
Save the event.
Google’s Android Calendar instructions identify Location as an event detail and direct users to save after entering event information. The practical sequence is therefore to expose the event details, enter the destination in the dedicated field, and save. A location written only as part of the title or description is not the same as entering it in the Location detail for Calendar’s location handling.
For example, if an event title says “Dentist” or its description mentions a clinic, that text alone is not a substitute for entering the clinic’s address or recognizable place in Location. The location field is where to put the destination you want associated with the event. A street address is a useful choice when the place name could refer to more than one location; otherwise, use a place name that Maps recognizes.
A properly saved location makes the event location available for Calendar and Maps features; it does not by itself confirm that Android Auto will display a route suggestion. Avoid treating a successful save as proof that the car will automatically choose the event. The field and the car-screen suggestion are related, but they are not the same step.
Change the location on an existing event
-
Open the event in Google Calendar on your phone.
-
Tap Edit.
-
Change the Location field to the correct address or recognizable place.
-
Save the changes.
This is also the correction path if the event has no location, has an outdated destination, or has a location entered in the wrong event detail. Open the event itself, edit its Location field, and save the updated event. Do not assume that changing the event title or adding a destination to the description will correct its location detail.
If the event already has a location, Google Calendar’s computer help also describes opening the event and previewing that location in Maps. On a computer, create or open the event, enter or check its location details, and save. Calendar-to-Maps location handling is documented; an automatic Android Auto destination prompt is not guaranteed by that documentation.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The computer guidance is useful for understanding what Calendar can do with an event location: an existing event that has one can be opened and its location previewed in Maps. That is different from establishing that Android Auto will automatically place the event destination on the car screen. The documented preview should not be read as a guarantee about what a particular connected car, phone, account, or Android Auto interface will display.

What to expect when you connect Android Auto
Adding a location is the necessary Calendar setup, but the car-screen behavior can vary. Google’s documented help covers event locations and previewing them in Maps, not a universal Android Auto feature that automatically selects every upcoming Calendar destination. Community reports describe changing and inconsistent availability:
-
A 2020 Android Auto Community thread reported that an older interface had offered a way to navigate to Calendar events, while the newer interface no longer exposed the same route.
-
In a 2022 discussion, users disagreed about whether upcoming Calendar locations appeared in Maps. The disagreement is a reason not to interpret one person’s experience as a universal setting or behavior.

In 2024, a user reported that a Maps destination suggestion had disappeared and described opening the Calendar event on the phone and tapping its location instead.
These are user reports, not official release notes or proof of one current behavior across phones, accounts, vehicles, and Android Auto versions. They do not establish exactly when a suggestion should appear, why it may be absent, or that every user has the same interface. Treat an automatic suggestion as a convenience if it appears, not as something to rely on for every event.
A Google Android Auto Community responder named Gr4ndp4 gave this advice on September 13, 2022: “To ensure that your events appear on Google Maps, enter the address in the ‘Where’ box when you create an event in Google Calendar.” This is useful community guidance about putting the address in the event location field, not a statement by Google staff or an official guarantee that Android Auto will show it. The wording “Where” in that answer refers to the location box in the event editor; in the Android instructions, the detail is called Location.
The same responder advised being signed in to both Calendar and Maps and asserted that Web & App Activity must be on for destination data to reach Maps. Treat those points as that responder’s guidance, not as universal prerequisites. The official Calendar documentation reviewed here does not confirm that the setting is required for every current version or account configuration. If the destination does not appear, first verify that the event location was actually entered and saved; do not assume a setting change is the answer.

A user in a 2024 Android Auto Community discussion reported this workaround: before driving, open the event in Calendar on the phone and tap its location to open it in Google Maps. Once Maps has the destination, use Maps through the connected car interface for navigation. This is a reported workaround, not a universal official Android Auto procedure.

While parked, open Google Calendar on your phone and select the event.
-
Tap the event’s location to hand it off to Maps.
-
Check that Maps has opened the intended destination, then use the connected car interface as appropriate.
Follow local rules for device use and do not perform these steps while driving. The workaround starts from the event on the phone rather than waiting for Android Auto to suggest the destination. Its purpose is to open the event location in Maps; it does not establish that all phones will show the same controls or that the procedure is an officially supported universal Android Auto workflow.
If tapping the location does not open the intended place, return to the event and check that the Location field contains the correct destination, then save any correction. Google Calendar’s computer help describes previewing locations in Maps when location information is present, so a Calendar-to-Maps handoff is consistent with documented location handling. Still, the sources do not guarantee identical behavior on every phone or interface. The important practical check is that Maps has the intended destination before you begin navigating.
If the location appears in Calendar but not as an automatic car-screen suggestion, that absence alone does not show that the event was entered incorrectly. The 2020, 2022, and 2024 community reports describe changes or differences in whether a Calendar destination is surfaced. Use the manual phone route before driving rather than repeatedly expecting the same suggestion to appear.
Check the event and account setup
-
Confirm the field: Make sure the address or place is in Location, rather than only in the event name or description. Calendar’s event-location handling depends on a location detail being present.
-
Check the destination text: A full street address or a clearly recognized place is less ambiguous than a shorthand label. The community advice specifically recommends entering the address in the event’s location box.

Check sign-in: A Google Android Auto Community responder advised being signed in to both Calendar and Maps. This is community guidance, not a current official guarantee about every account configuration.
-
Treat Web & App Activity advice cautiously: The same 2022 community answer asserted that Web & App Activity must be enabled for destination data to reach Maps. The official Calendar documentation reviewed does not confirm that this is universally required for current versions or all accounts, so do not treat it as an established prerequisite.
-
Distinguish a missing suggestion from a missing location: Check the event itself first. If its saved Location detail is present, a missing automatic Android Auto or Maps suggestion may reflect the inconsistent behavior described in community discussions rather than a problem with the text you entered.

Use the phone workaround before setting off: If the car interface does not show the destination, open the event and tap its location while parked. Confirm that Maps has opened the right place before relying on it for the trip.
These checks separate what you can verify in Calendar from what you cannot guarantee in the car. You can inspect the event, correct its location, and save it. The sources do not establish a setting that forces every upcoming Calendar event to appear automatically in Android Auto, nor a universal troubleshooting switch for that behavior.
Automatic suggestions versus opening the event yourself
| Approach | What is established | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Wait for Android Auto or Maps to suggest the Calendar destination | Google documents Calendar event locations and previewing a location in Maps. | The sources do not establish that Android Auto automatically displays every event destination. Community reports describe inconsistent or changed behavior. |
| Open the event on the phone and tap its location | A user reported this as a way to open the destination in Maps when a suggestion was missing. | This is a community-reported workaround, not a documented universal Android Auto workflow. Do it while parked, before driving. |
The first approach is hands-off if a suggestion happens to appear, but the reviewed official help does not say that it will appear for every event. The second approach requires you to act on the phone before driving, but it is the practical fallback described by a user when the suggestion was missing. Neither the community reports nor the official Calendar instructions provide a success rate or a quantitative comparison between these approaches.
No special hardware or purchase is needed for the software steps described here. The core setup is to enter and save an event location in Calendar. The car-navigation question is about how Calendar and Maps information is surfaced through Android Auto, not a product that must be bought to make the location field work.

Bottom line for setting up an event
Put the destination in the event’s Location field, save it, and use a clear address or recognizable place. Calendar can handle event locations in Maps, but automatic Android Auto surfacing is not assured. If the car does not show the destination, open the event on your phone and tap its location before you set off.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I use Android Auto to navigate to the location in a Calendar event?
Enter the destination in the event’s Location field in Google Calendar and save it. If Android Auto does not surface it automatically, a user-reported workaround is to open the event in Calendar on your phone and tap its location to open Maps. Do this while parked, before driving.
Why does Android Auto or Google Maps not pull event locations from Calendar?
The reviewed Google Calendar help documents event locations and previewing them in Maps, but does not guarantee that Android Auto will automatically show every event destination. Community reports from 2020, 2022, and 2024 describe changed or inconsistent availability. First confirm the event has a saved Location detail; if it does, try opening the event and tapping its location on your phone before driving.
Where should I put the address in Google Calendar?
Enter it in the event’s Location field, not only in the title or description. On Android, swipe up in the event editor if the Location field is not visible.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Can I add a location to an event that already exists?
Yes. Open the event in Google Calendar, tap Edit, change its Location field, and save the changes.
Do I have to turn on Web & App Activity for Calendar locations to reach Maps?
A Google Android Auto Community responder said Web & App Activity must be on, but the official Calendar documentation reviewed here does not confirm that it is universally required for current versions or all accounts. Treat it as community guidance, not an established prerequisite.
Does a saved Calendar location guarantee Android Auto will show a navigation suggestion?
No guarantee is established. Google documents Calendar event locations and Maps previews, while community posts report inconsistent or changed suggestions. Save the location, then use the phone-to-Maps workaround if it is not shown.
The Bottom Line
Enter a clear destination in the event’s Location field and save it. That supports Calendar’s location handling in Maps, but it does not guarantee an automatic Android Auto suggestion. If one is missing, open the event on your phone and tap its location while parked, then use Maps through the connected car interface.
